Biography: (300 words minimum.)

In a family of seven children, Dahlia was the wallflower of the bunch, the youngest. While everyone else with their strong personalities bickered, she could be found off reading and ignoring them. While everyone else planned for their inevitable weddings arranged by their purist parents, she rolled her eyes and planned her numerous inevitable career paths instead. She was restless and hungry in a way none of her siblings were, spontaneously taking defying risks no one else would have dared to, tired of the strict traditions her family fed them.

So when it came time to arrange her marriage, Dahlia refused to cooperate. Every meeting with a suitor spiraled into some kind of fight, some kind of embarrassing scene, the nights cutting early with Dahlia smugly victorious. It continued until she was twenty, and she was met with one Fabian Fenwick.

It became clear neither of them wanted this, neither of them enjoyed their parents meddling, and so a plan was hatched between the two in secret-- simply pretend that things were going well between them to get their families off their backs, at least for a short while. It was the first time Dahlia had enjoyed herself with one of these setups, the first time any of the men had actually impressed her, surprised her.

So it was a surprise to her, too, that the longer their charade went on the less it felt like putting on a show. A surprise when she found herself pregnant with his child, and he proposed. A surprise that she swallowed her pride and said yes, putting off whatever plans she might have lain the path for. After all her years of defiance, she fell into the life she hadn’t wanted by accident, and her parents couldn’t have been more relieved.

Eight years of marriage flew by in a whirlwind, after that. A daughter was her first and then a son four years after, and though Dahlia hadn’t wanted this life at first, she grew to truly love her little family. Fabian had taken up a job in his family's line of work, buying up properties and renting them out in the Fenwick name. At some point Dahlia found she had a knack for helping Fabian in the reconstruction of the buildings he oversaw. She helped flip them, rebuild them, make them look good for the reselling or renting.

It scratched a creative itch, helped her restless boredom, pulled her out of a looming life of being a stay at home parent.

Recently, they took up a property in Hogsmeade; a nice potential pub. And while the rest of the properties they had worked on had been for Fabian’s family, the two decided quite suddenly to keep this one for themselves, to make it theirs. With a third child on the horizon and this new pet project to keep her busy, it’ll be awhile before Dahlia realizes that maybe not all of her husband’s surprises are good.

Roleplay:
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character:

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:

Dahlia moved through the crowds like someone who belonged there, like a shark cutting through rough waters ripe with fish. With her head held high, a four year old boy on her hip, and an eight year old girl in hand, she weaved her way around those too slow to get out of her way, her sights set on one thing and one thing only-- finding the strongest cup of coffee available in Diagon. She needed it, desperately.

“Vivi, please,” Dahlia sighed as the girl tried to tug them once more to a new colorful window display, cutting in front of a couple who snapped their annoyances in their direction. Dahlia gave them a curt glare over the black rim of the sunglasses perched on her nose, and decided it best to hold back any colorful responses on the off chance either of her children would pick them up and repeat them to their father-- as hilarious as that would be.

She had just been about to pull Viviane away from the bouquet of flowers that bloomed and bounced in their direction when a sudden outcry certainly caught her attention.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!”

“What in blazes--” she muttered under her breath, turning, eyes scouring until they found the source. With another heaved sigh, Dahlia turned to cut through the crowds toward the downed redhead before someone could trample the poor thing, stopping right before her to block and redirect the traffic.

“Come on,” Dahlia snapped expectantly at the lass, releasing her daughter’s hand to snatch up the offending shoe, the heel of which was clearly in need of repair, “Get up quick, these Ministry folk won’t slow for anything short of a galleon.”
