Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:
Ryan Everett Ward

Birthday:
March 11th

Hometown:
New York City, New York

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two):
5th (preferably) / 6th

Biography:
Albany, New York on a cold March morning. He was the second of three sons, but the third child overall, and the only one of which that presented with ability to use magic like his mother could before she left the magical world behind her. Because of this development, Melissa had sent Ryan off to live with her family - The Ward’s - in New York City so that he could be raised in a household that understood what he needed. Or, in other words, a family that wanted anything to do with magic.

While Ryan was too young to really be bitter towards his mother for what she did, her sister - Lorelai - took Melissa’s place and raised Ryan as her own despite minor disapproval from the rest of the Ward family.  She was a single mother with no steady partner, and in their eyes had no idea what it took to raise a child. There was a minor stigma attached to Ryan as well, seeing as how his father had been a Muggle, but Lorelai had been the only ones to look past it.

Ryan’s grandfather, Henry, accepted him in time too, but only because the boy proved to have a similar taste in hobbies as the elderly Ward had. The two would spend long afternoons in the summer playing magical chess with one another, until Ryan eventually conceded defeat since the older of the two had more experience even if Ryan proved to be a fast learner. He took to flying almost naturally, and had more love for the game than he did for Henry’s other passion - duelling. But, in an attempt to gain more favor from his grandfather, Ryan promised to try and enjoy duelling more when he eventually transferred to Hogwarts.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request:
Ravenclaw

Personality:
Ry can come off as a little sarcastic, especially in a biting kind of way if he feels threatened. It doesn't happen often, but he likes to use his mind to try and walk circles around people that are confronting him. Because of this he can come off as a little cocky, but he really isn't - not once you get to know him. He just likes to show off, even if it ends with him having his foot left in his mouth or worse, since his bark is way worse than his bite.

Because of his relationship with his grandfather, Ryan has a habit of spending a large amount of time playing Wizard's Chess or studying the game. Because of his his grades tend to suffer, but when push comes to shove he can lose himself in books for hours on end cramming for lessons and tests. Once he is lost, however, the world could probably end without him noticing.

Appearance:
Ryan is on the lanky side and sometimes best described as a walking beanstalk, but that doesn't mean that he lacks muscle. He swears he has some, maybe if you squint a little, from the time he played Muggle sports in New York up until the time he entered Hogwarts. He has short messy brown hair and dark brown eyes, but is able to clean up pretty nicely when he needs too from time spent at family dinner parties while he was growing up in the magical side of New York.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet traveled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Ryan was late. Super late. Late to what you ask? Making it back to the grand hall in time to have lunch with a pretty girl that he was chatting up in Potions, but he blamed being distracted by her freckles for forgetting his books down in the dungeon. A fact that he knew he would get heckled for later.

But who, he wondered, could honestly blame him? The Prefects, probably, if one of them caught him down here when he should have been elsewhere. Or one of the Professors. Especially the Potions Professor.

Thankfully he was able to locate his books with ease, and hadn't been spotted - as far as he knew - before he slunk out of the Potions classroom back into the Dungeons Proper. Part one of his quest was over, and he checked it off his list, until a noise spooked him and the book he worked so hard on collecting thumped on the floor. He blanched to the point of looking ghostly, a feat that had been assisted by the voice of another person just around the corner that seemed almost as spooked as he was.

"H-h-hello?"

Ryan was too proud of himself to admit that he yelped, but at least the little girl didn't see him jump. He placed a hand on his heart and sighed, glad that it hadn't actually jumped out of his chest, before straightening his stance and gathering himself. Cool, composed. Not a spooked bird. He squinted around the corner at her, a brown eyebrow arching slightly at her unanswered greeting.

"Can I help you?" is what Ryan would have said if she hadn't tried again, yelling out another greeting, and giving him another jump at the suddenness of it. He fought back  a perturbed blush that threatened to darken his cheeks for jumping again, and cleared his throat to announce his presence. "What, or who, is an Emma Birch?"
