Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: James Othello McCormick

Birthday: 1 January

Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two):
Seventh, Sixth

Biography:
Tragedy had a way of following around James McCormick.

The boy had been born prematurely to halfblood mum and a muggleborn father. If that wasn't tragic enough, Trisha had barely survived the emergency procedure. But once their safety had been confirmed, it seemed that all was well in their household, despite the protests of such a unique middle name.

His early years had been fairly normal, as far as the kid could remember. That was, until the boy had turned six. That year was incredibly rough for the young McCormick. His mother, his only best friend really, had died of dragonpox that fall. Due to her abrupt and sudden death, Flynn had turned to bottles to ease his sadness. Any warmth that had been instilled within the head of household had dissipated, and ice had frozen over his heart.

From that moment on, James had been held at a distance, listening to his father's rantings of an abandoned family, and harsh cruelties he had endured. Nothing made sense, not until he had begun attending Salem. That year, he excelled in his studies, and even more, quidditch. But nothing could quite please his father. Nothing healed the sting he felt day in and day out.

Until the following summer, just before James' birthday, was his father found after been missing for a week. There was suspect of foul play, or so he found out through the eavesdropping of an aunt and uncle's conversation. After losing both of his parents, a rage began to build deep within the boy with no hope of release. But after being expelled from Salem his fifth year, he was shipped off to London to live with a stricter uncle in hopes of shaping him up into a better man before graduation.

Since his arrival at Hogwarts, there had only been two people he truly called friends; Bracken and Phoebe. The only two that actually mean something to him, and had proved their worth. Perhaps this term, he could find more allies, but he’s not much looking for anything of the sort.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Slytherin

Personality:
A lot of things could be said about James McCormick, but having a positive attitude is not one of those things. He is very much, in all aspects, a pessimist. Because of his dark history, he tends to believe there isn’t any good left in the world -- or in people, for that matter. Instead, he anticipates the worst, even in the two people he trusts in the school.
Like most rebels, the teen knows how to have a good time, one of his only good qualities. He does like to make sure those involved, whether in attendance, or otherwise, are having a great time. Most of that is due to his own ego, or perhaps the issues within himself due to his failing parents, that he accomplished something liked by all.
He doesn’t at all like opening up to people, about himself or his past. Weak is not something he wants to be perceived as, not in the slightest. Masculinity was preached at a young age, only the strong survived, as his father always said. Failure wasn’t an option, no matter what it took to win.

Appearance:
James Othello knows he’s attractive in all forms of the word. Standing at nearly six feet, he enjoys showing off fit build. Never caught wearing a shirt in the summer, the teen is well tanned with fiery red hair, typically tousled from his lack of discipline. Golden hues will most likely stare back at you unless he’s angered or irritated, of which then they will turn a dark brown. On the tops of his thighs, there are remnants of small, circular burn marks, but those are usually well hidden from those he isn’t intimate with.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

It was cruel, really, but that was the beauty of being an upper year. To always be there to give the firsties a nice, old fashioned scare. It was good for their soul..or something like that. Besides, he had to do something similar back at Salem. And look how he turned out. (No, don’t.) He was fine, and now it was his turn to take his own revenge on those who had scared him backwards back home.

It didn’t take long to creep into the spot the girls had told him earlier at lunch. The wait didn’t seem to last forever as he thought when they had originally said something. He just leaned against the wall, listening to the silence loom over him and his thoughts. James guessed it only took about ten or fifteen minutes of waiting before quiet footsteps were heard echoing. His heart began to race as a devious grin spread from cheek to cheek. He turned his body to crouch lower towards the floor, preparing to give the girl a great scare.

Once her voice echoed and her shadowy figure walked right pass the wall, James pounced -- literally. Jumping out from where he hid, hands gently attempted to grab her shoulders for full effect as he bellowed out an expertly made ghostly moan.

“Leaaave this place nowwww!”
