CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Percival Hartwood

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Seraphine Mousseau, Otto Fowl, Isolde Morgenstern, Louis Fossoway

Character age: 27

Character education: Ravenclaw ‘39

Strength and weaknesses (details please): The general perception of Percival makes him out to be a dandelion of a man, whose gentleness puts up barriers. While he does enjoy the more fragile side of life -flowers, softness, rain, and the like- he can be rather strict when it comes to duty. As a librarian at Crimbleton and Co. Booksellers he learned the importance of cleanliness and order in the workplace, a strength he would transfer to the classroom effectively, as well as the impact of unwarranted kindness. While he is a generous man, his time as the Hogwarts groundskeeper ‘45-’46 showed a stricter side of him. Leading detentions and patrolling taught him a new respectability. Silent authority is a strength of his, and helped him manage rooms full of delinquents, so why not a classroom of eager young students?

Physical description:He is a thin, fairly muscled man with hair with chestnut hair with just a touch of waviness. His face is outlined by a strong jawline and a dotting of unkempt stubble when he forgets to shave. His strong brow often makes him look more concerned than he is, yet his eyes share a soft light that only a gentle man could harness. He has a habit of dressing rather odd, with mismatched patterns generally in shades of brown and burnt orange. Despite his odd clothing, he keeps his outfits looking proper, by never failing to remove wrinkles and lint from himself, as he believes there is no sense in living without order. His broad shoulders come from his experience playing Quidditch, yet he is anything but aggressive.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.): Despite his best intentions, Percival has always been something of a loner. He prefers the company of his many plants to that of his peers, yet when encountered always remains polite and friendly. He toes the line of respect carefully, believing in the traditional Vincentian values of his family, that every person deserves respect, no matter who they are. He is a kind, understanding man. Yet, when it comes to deadlines, Hartwood is rare to waver. He is strict, yet kind. He is friendly, yet isolated. Most of all, he looks for the best in every person, no matter their background or circumstances.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?: School was a safe haven in his youth, Hogwarts being an angel sent to guide Percival. He has always had a deep respect for knowledge, valuing it far past wealth or power. His purpose at Hogwarts is to spread knowledge to young witches and wizards, while treating his students with the respect earned by each living thing. Percival hopes to teach students about aspects of transfiguration and provide an open forum for discussion about the subject, where every voice is valued.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):
The Hartwood family always insisted on the importance of a man’s physical strength, attributing it as a key component to a successful life. These values were forced onto Percival as soon as he could walk. From his first steps, his father was insisting he practice flying. But when he wasn’t receiving private lessons from his tutor or riding on his broomstick, the young lad often could be found mingling with orphans and feeding stray animals. He enjoyed helping his mother tend to the gardens, despite his father’s disapproval and absolutely adored the plants. Many times, Percy was caught with stray animals living in his bedroom, often kept in boxes or his closet. He had a habit of drawing wounded and weak animals to his presence, and his sympathy for their pain led to him hiding them in his room and taking care of them. While his playdates were arranged with other pure-blooded children, he often found them to be dull and rigid, preferring books to the company of such children. He longed to be free of his parents and of the pressure laid on his shoulders as the heir, and that relief came in the form of a letter.

The arrival of his Hogwarts letter was easily one of the best memories he possessed. Entirely anticipated, the letter symbolized his new freedom. While his relationship with his father was less than favorable, there was no love lost with his mother, and she dreaded sending him off to school each term. None of the other children were as close to her as Percival was. They shared a gentle nature and a love of plants. With his father being of Slytherin and his mother of Ravenclaw, there was no clear expectation for his house, yet his father insisted Slytherin was the best path to success. Percy’s arrival at Hogwarts found him sorted into Ravenclaw, to his delight as a lover of knowledge. Percival didn’t form the strong bonds that other classmates formed with their friends. He had plenty of friends, but often preferred his privacy to the company of them. His marks were excellent and he felt his knowledge ever-expanding. As a keeper for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, Perce honed his flying abilities, yet refused to reduce himself to the ordinary arrogance and aggressiveness of the Pitch. Much of his free-time was spent practicing on the Quidditch Pitch, studying and lounging in the library, or penning letters to his mother.

A very important facet of Percival is his beliefs. While he is not particularly religious, he is a strong advocate for Vincentian ways and is firm in his belief that every person deserves respect, no matter the situation. This has helped him over the years to be more understanding.
Immediately following his graduation, Hartwood knew there was no path for him pursuing a Ministry career or anything of the like, and he found himself employed as a Librarian at Crimbleton and Co. Booksellers. He adored the owner, Amarantha, and looked up to her as a role model. He made many friends through the peace of the shop, connecting with people over their love of literature and poetry. The peace and quiet of the store proved to be like another home to him.

While, he loved his work as a librarian, Percival saw an opportunity in the form of Hogwarts. The school that he adored was hiring for several positions, so he went ahead and indulged himself. While he was not selected to be a professor, he was granted the honor of serving as the school’s Groundskeeper for a term and adored his job. He was able to roam freely on the grounds, was entrusted with holding detentions and doling out punishments and went on patrols. This position also granted him access to the vast greenhouses, a space he had cherished through his years at Hogwarts. Being back in the house of learning was inspirational to Percival, yet the presence of the Hexenreich terrified him.

Percival had never been particularly tough, and the presence of the Germans put his nerves even more on end. He ended up resigning the position out of cowardice, returning to his cottage and resuming his work at the bookstore. It is now that he has decided to turn away from his fear of confrontation and pursue his educational career to shape minds of future generations.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response: The trip to Hogwarts had gotten off to a bad start when Percival misplaced his papers. Running behind schedule was not familiar to the man, but mistakes happen. The imperfection was bound to look horrible, especially in the face of his former employer. A bead of sweat rolled down his nose as he opened the door to the headmistress’s office. “Good afternoon, Headmistress, I apologize for my lack of punctuality. Travel took longer than anticipated, with the situation in Britain,” he expressed, continuing with a pleasant smile,” I hope you can forgive me.”

The office was just as he remembered it. Neat and tidy, the way any functional office or working room should be. His eye caught on the sorting hat, a smile lifting one corner of his mouth. Nostalgia flushed over him.

Stepping up to the stool and sitting on it, young Percy had never been more nervous. His thoughts raced and danced. He had no idea where he belonged, but he prayed that it would not be Slytherin. The hat had scarcely grazed his head when the old hat shouted, ”RAVENCLAW!

The mind was an odd thing, conjuring up memories at the slightest hint of happiness. Maybe it was an attempt to calm himself. He had been scared back in 1945 and he was certainly scared now. His eyes locked on Ivanova’s confidently. “Thank you for inviting me here today,” he uttered graciously.

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Percival Hartwood

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Séraphine Mousseau,

Character age: 23

Character education: Hogwarts: Ravenclaw '39 and then studied at muggle school (University of Cambridge)'44

Strength and weaknesses (details please): Percival Hartwood works like clockwork, every move he makes careful and calculated, but his tendency to be slightly late to nearly every singe thing is a sore spot. Punctuality can be a problem for him; not fatal, but being 5-10 minutes late is common, partially because he insists on only using muggle watches. Schedules are pretty important to him so he frequently stresses (himself) about punctuality and deadlines.

He's the type of person who won't speak unless absolutely necessary and when needs be, he can be very persuasive. Kindness is an important aspect of his personality, but with that also can display him as a bit of a pushover to harsh demands. He can do anything that he sets his mind to (or has a set of instructions for.)

Physical description: Percival is all elbows and knees. Standing at 6"1, he is generally seen as a pretty lanky man. His figure is slim, but he is broad-shouldered from years of Quidditch. Ever since his four-year absence from the Wizarding world, the 23 year-old hasn't kept up with wizard fashion, so generally dresses plainly, somewhat old-fashioned. He can always be found with multiple watches strapped to his wrist.

With a jawline that could sharpen knives, his face is very angular. Since punctuality isn't a strong suit gyrefor him, he often appears a bit unkempt, his hair rarely being combed or styled. His expression is nearly always blank, devoid of emotion or any recognition of feelings.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.):
While Percival can come off as robotic to many, he is a very compassionate person under the surface. His voice never raises to a yell and his words are never insensitive. Mutual respect is something he grants to everybody, unless they've proven to be unworthy of it.

While he loves a good schedule, Percy is sympathetic towards tardiness, since it is a problem he himself struggles with. Attempts at humor for him are generally lackluster, coming off as forced or stale.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?: Percival has always had a passion for all things muggle. While he longs to teach muggle studies, he has found a recent interest in Magical Defense, to raise awareness for danger. After the events of the previous term, it's more vital than ever to instruct students on defending themselves. Upon returning from Cambridge, he began to research defense tactics, amidst all the war. He hopes to share his new-found knowledge with the students of Hogwarts, so that the events of the 1944-1945 term never repeat themselves.

Biography (500 words minim um. There is never such a thing as too much.):
Ever since his premature birth, Percival had been delicate. Despite his tough exterior, he was always as fragile as glass. Growing up in London, Percy loved nothing more than playing outdoors and developed an adoration for the rain. He grew up a strong, broad-shouldered young man; his Quidditch skill unquestionable. Yet, in his heart always lingered a longing for the gentler side of life.

The Hartwoods are a proud, noble pureblood family. Centered around big business moguls and politicians, Percival grew up in a strained environment with only one visible career path: an heir. At his family's manor in the heart of London, his fascination with muggles often led him into trouble, nearly exposing magic several times to the neighborhood children. Playing with the children at the local orphanage quickly became a favorite pastime of the young heir. He'd scale the manor gates and escape to the simplicity of an average childhood, the childish games his life had always been devoid of. This fondness of non-magic folks prompted Percy's father to isolate him from the childhood friends he so adored.

Gates, guards, nannies and designated friends were a new normal for the 6 year-old. Living locked in the business-obsessed household slowed the development of his social interactions, resulting in a weak sense of humor and awkward tendencies. In the hopes that he would become more serious about the family business, the Hartwoods only ended up estranging their son even more. Oftentimes, he could be found sneaking into their offices to read files.

The young man was raised to be the head of his house, but his arrival at Hogwarts brought him back to his former fascination with the other side of London. While his father was hoping for a strapping Gryffindor, Percival found a home for himself in Ravenclaw. The environment was perfect for him: a house where he could pursue knowledge without the skepticism of his peers, where he could indulge in his studies of muggle culture without estranging himself. With the social skills of a dugbog (fostered in an isolated childhood), friends or even acquaintances were unknown to the young Hartwood.

1st year went by in a flash. Tutoring had prepared him for school well enough, practically ensuring his academic success. The years flew by like parchment on the wind, whipping his mindset around with it. He changed with every passing year, evolving slowly into a better person each time.

Father had taught him to play Quidditch as soon as he could stand up, so flying came as natural as breathing. Despite Percival's aversion to violence, he found himself to be an exceedingly gifted beater for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team and for a while, hoped to pursue a career as a professional Quidditch player.

That dream was quickly cast aside when he realized, in his 6th year, that while Quidditch was an interest of his; his true passion was any and all things muggle. He had no intentions of sacrificing magic, but wanted to get a closer look at the muggle world. The entirety of his seventh year was spent applying to muggle universities, which his grades suffered for.

Percy's acceptance to the University of Cambridge was the turning point in a life destined for inheritance, proving to his parents that he was set on straying from their lifestyle. Mother was a bit more accepting of his decision, but father refused to speak to his stray first-born.

Percy left home after Hogwarts and it was there that he stayed for four years. School in the non-magical world taught him well, but often the impracticality of the lessons were difficult for him to grasp after years of hands-on spell practice. Despite his brief academic struggles, that year he had more friends than he'd ever had at Hogwarts, even finding success with the opposite gender.

Enter Vera Lapier, a girl without an ounce of magic in her blood. A girl who would never be allowed to even meet his parents. A girl whose charm was it's own magic, capturing Perce under it's rosy spell. But then he had to leave, return to a home that would never accept her

Returning to Wizarding society permanently was a big jump, and Percival found more and more each day how he missed the simplicity of the muggle life. He currently is employed as a librarian at Crimbleton and co. booksellers, a job he loves yet still longs for a higher purpose.

Now, the 23 year-old is seeking a job at Hogwarts, hoping to spread the knowledge he worships.

Roleplay Response:

He was running late. Again. Not dreadfully so, but still tardy enough to make a bad first impression. Pushing a palm against the face of his watch, he couldn't help but hope that perhaps it wasn't working and he actually was on time. But, much to his dismay, all 6 watches lined along his left forearm displayed the same numbers. The numbers that could very well obliterate the already minuscule chance at this job that he had: 2:05.

He scurried down the hall to the Headmistress's office, pulling off his hat hastily. A single deep breath. He pressed on the door lightly, letting it swing open to announce his entrance.

Practically latching onto the cold gaze of Ivanova, he stumbled over his words trying to explain. From the look on her face, the prospects were bleak; in a word: hopeless. This wasn't a woman to be trifled with, quite wince-worthy.

"I'm terribly sorry, I never quite got acclimated to these things," he stated, gesturing despondently towards a watch before holding out a hand to her, "I am Percival Hartwood."

A stolid look then occupied his features, lips pressing together.

Séraphine Mousseau

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Ever since his premature birth, Percival has been delicate. Despite his tough exterior, he is as fragile as glass. Growing up in London, Percy loved nothing more than playing outdoors and has developed an adoration for the rain. He grew up a strong, broad-shouldered young man; his Quidditch skill unquestionable. Yet in his heart always lingers a longing for the gentler side of life.

His adoration for plants and the simpler pleasures in life drove a barrier between his business-obsessed father and mother. The Pure blood flowing through his veins always offered an easier life for him. Often hanging around the orphanage children, Percy despised the thought that blood purity mattered to some people. It constantly sickened him, as a boy, that people treated him better for his heritage and he was deeply fascinated by muggles and their simple lifestyle.

Growing up, Quidditch was practically forced on Percival. His parents had both been Quidditch stars in their days and coached him from the very moment he could walk. He was a broad-shouldered, strong young man; his physical strength could rarely be matched but he has always despised violence.

When Percival received his Hogwarts letter at the age of 11, it came as no surprise to him and his family. His years spent at Hogwarts taught him more about himself, having fallen in love with the simpler side of things.

Never having cared for the politics his family enjoyed, Percy left home after school to pave his own path in the Wizarding world. It is there that he currently resides.

Roleplay Response:
Roleplay Option Two-

The sky was pale; the white that only only snow could follow. Percival had adored the simple beauty of snow his entire life and that day was no excuse. Staring up at the sky, his child-ish subconscious urged him to let his tongue hang out and catch the delicately falling flakes, yet he somehow managed to resist it.

The streets were busy, bustling with life and all of it's clatter.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!"

Percy'd hardly had time to process before an elderly gentleman crashed into him, sending the parcels he clutched flying.

"For Merlin's sake!" the man said

Hastily scooping up the fallen parchments, he stood back up and brushed the snow and bits of what appeared to be tinsel from his trousers.

"I'm terribly sorry," Percival gushed, "I wasn't looking where-"

"I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" The man exclaimed.

"Oh no," he insisted, "that's fine! A little snow never hurt anyone."

Plucking a piece of tinsel from his overcoat, he glanced back at the elderly man and stretched out a hand, "I'm Percival," he said kindly
