Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:
Eva Kedding

Birthday:
23 April 1942

Hometown:
London, England

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring/Summoning

Year (pick two):
Three/Two

Biography:
Once upon a time, two first years meet by the Old Oak tree at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry...

… and if Eva had to hear one of her parents tell her that story one more time, she was going to puke.

Yes, the story was true. Her mother was Aubrey (Rousseau) Kedding, Gryffindor 1941. She had served as Prefect of her house in her last year, was a decent duelist, and of course was - until this term - Gryffindor’s Head of House. In recent years, Eva always made sure that she visited her mum at the school during Dueling weekends. What a joy it was watching students casting spells at each other!

Her father was Charlie Kedding, Hufflepuff 1941. Head Boy in his last year, as well as Captain and star player of the house’s Quidditch team. One of Eva’s favorite things to do while visiting her mum at Hogwarts was to attend the Quidditch matches. She had been flying on a broom since before her first birthday (and if her dad had anything to say about it, she would have been flying on a broom before she was born had it been possible).

She had heard some many stories from her parents about their time at Hogwarts. Receiving her Hogwarts letter for her 11th birthday meant that it was now time for Eva to write her own Hogwarts story, and she was more than ready!

She did indeed start writing that story two year's ago. However, imagine her surprise when she was not sorted into Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, but Slytherin. Even after two years, she questions the hat's choice. Everybody swears that the hat is never wrong ... but there's a first time for everything. Perhaps truly, the hat got her wrong. Or perhaps, she has herself all wrong. Her current struggle is still finding her place in the sea of green and silver.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request:
Prior Snake.

Personality:
Eva would make any psychologist that studied and wrote about birth order extremely happy to use her as a subject to validate their research. She exhibited so many characteristics that are attributed to first-born children.

Controlling: (sometimes seen as bossy) This could fit Eva to a “T”. Often put in charge of watching her little sisters, how could she not be bossy. “No, don’t do that.” “You cannot eat that!” “Stop that right now!” “If you do that one more time, I’m telling dad.” Yup, bossy.
Overachiever: Eva cannot wait to get to Hogwarts and take classes to learn magic. However, she’s also very excited to try out for Dueling and Quidditch. As her mum and dad’s favorite activities respectively, she figures that she will earn her parents utmost approval by making the house teams and hopefully excelling at them.
Seeks parents’ attention: Growing up the older sister of a werewolf who obviously needed a lot of attention, and then an even older sister to twins, Eva strives to be in their spotlight and constantly seeks their approval. At Hogwarts she is determined to study hard to earn great grades as well as excel at Quidditch and Dueling.

Appearance:
At first look, it seems that is Eva has taken on many of her mother’s characteristics. Of course, the most striking one is her unruly, brown curly hair. Eva is determined that one of the very first things she will be learning is to magically straighten her hair. She’s read all about the application of it in books (yes, plural books, as in any book that had made mention of magically straightening hair), and now that she has her wand cannot wait to try it out for real.

Anyone who knew her father well though would know that Eva had her father’s eyes … or at least his eyes right around full moon. Her golden eyes were honestly her most favorite thing about her. Not everyone had gold eyes after all, and that made her unique.

How your character kept up with their studies: Eva has been at Hogwarts the entire time. She's been trying to keep up with her studies, but so far she hasn't proven to be even half the student her mum or dad was. Too much of her focus was spent throwing herself a pity party about something she didn't realize she cared so deeply about (not being sorted into Hufflepuff or Gryffindor). There were plenty of "good" kids in Slytherin, Eva just hasn't found her place yet. This year, with mum not being at Hogwarts, Eva can't just go sleep with her in her living quarters. She's going to be forced to sleep in her common room.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Quietly, Eva sat in the shadows of the dungeon corridor. Eva could tell by the sounds of the young lion cub's voice that she was scared. Too scared. If this had happened either of the last two years, Eva's mother would have had her head for giving the younger girl a fright. However, Eva's mum was no longer here. It was time to have a little bit of fun.

Eva placed the tips of her fingernails against the stone walls and drug them along it's not-so-smooth surface. Unfortunately, it didn't quiet produce the effect that she was looking for. Not quite as loud as she had wanted. Not quiet as scary.

There had to be something else she could do. What would she do if Joey was here? What would she do to scare her? "Think, Eva. Think." she whispered to herself as she hit her head a little too hard off the wall.

At the end of the day, Eva just couldn't do it. Once again proving she wasn't as cunning or clever as the rest of those in her house. She stepped out of the shadows, into a small beam of flickering light.

"Hi. My name is Eva Kedding, not Emma Birch. I know Emma's story though. I'll tell you a little bit about her as I walk you back to your common room, if you don't mind of course."

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Option I:

Eva had followed Evangeline into the dungeons. Eva had overheard the dare given to the girl by the older girls, and she was here to set the record straight.

Perhaps Eva should have stopped the girl sooner. After all, it didn’t require coming all the way down into the dungeons for Eva to tell the girl that while the story behind the death of the Birch girl wasn’t completely untrue, the fact that her ghost haunted the dungeons was. At least, Eva had never seen or met her ghost.

"H-h-hello?"

Drats, had Evangeline heard her? Eva had tried very hard to stay as quiet as possible so that she wouldn’t alarm the poor, frightened girl, but it seemed as if her plan was fruitless.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The girl sounded more frightened than ever. Perhaps now was the best time for Eva to make her presence know.

“No, Evangeline. It’s just me, Eva Kedding,” she stated as she stepped out into some dim light so that the other girl could see her. “Just so you know, you’re not going to find Emma Birch’s ghost down here … or anywhere else in the castle for that matter.”

It was possible that her statement came off a little more “know-it all” instead of informational, but Eva was attempting to put the young Lioness at ease.

“Here, have a piece of chocolate,” Eva said as she broke off a piece of one of the chocolate bar her dad had sent her. (If her mum found out that daddy was sending her chocolate, she’d probably freak.) “It will make you feel better, I promise.”
