Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Valencia Jade Paloma Dahlia

Birthday: 20 December 1956

Hometown:Madrid, Spain

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): Third, Fourth

Biography:

The birth of Valencia Dahlia was one of great importance. The second daughter to the Spanish, pureblood empire was anticipated by family, friends, and enemies alike. She was to be celebrated, and protected, at all costs. With the eldest daughter AWOL, a heavy burden would fall onto her shoulders. However, the young princess would have no idea what her future held.

At a young age, she was without a father, clinging heavily to the side of her mother Sofia. The Dahlia patriarch was arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison, however, all who knew the logistics knew he would out much sooner. The wealth of their name was enough to pull strings for him to have a lesser sentence. He was to be released in 1973. and though she was looking forward to seeing him again, she was also very scared. What if she wasn't what he expected? What if Valencia wasn't any better than her disgraced sister Gracelynn? Those questions plagued her dreams, seeped into her minds always.

All she wanted to do was make her family proud, especially her father.

Studying at Hogwarts was the first step, naturally. Focusing on her strengths, and trying to improve her weaknesses. That's all she could do. Work hard to be rewarded was her mindset.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw, Slytherin

Personality:
Valencia has the outward shell of someone with great confidence, a fake it until you make it perspective. However, on the inside, she’s anything but. Her biggest fear is being alone - being left alone by those who claim to care about her. She may seem a little stuck-up when someone first meets her but it doesn’t take long for her to warm up once she establishes whether you’re trustworthy or not./i]

Appearance:
She has a slim build, mostly due to her hobby of swimming. Like the women in her family, Valencia has cascading jet black hair that reaches the small of her back when straightened. However, she typically wears her hair in loose waves at the castle because she is expected to have her straightened at all times at home. Her eyes change from a darkened green to a hazy brown depending on the weather outside.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:
Dinner had taken much longer than the girl had anticipated.

Between gossiping with her friends, and trying to finish up last minute homework for Transfiguration, Val was running behind. Just her luck - she had accidentally knocked over her goblet when getting up from the table. Of course. That's precisely why she shouldn't rush, her mother's voice echoed far too loudly in her mind. Slow and steady wins the race, being hasty only resulted in mistakes. Proper ladies did everything with a purpose, they didn't rush through the actions just to be the first one finished.

Even at the castle, she was haunted by her family.

After retrieving her things and ensure the mess was cleaned, Valencia hurried out of the Great Hall and took a wrong turn. Of course.  Another mistake had her towards the dungeons, a vastly different destination than the library. She let out a low, frustrated sigh once she realized where her feet had carried her. A beat later, and a loud groan escaped, entirely mad at herself.

And a quiet, frightened voice echoed down the corridor. The words seemed familiar, and it didn't take long for her to realize it was just another prank the upper years enjoyed terrorizing the first and second years with. She took a step towards the voice, moving to hold her books against her chest.

"Emma Birch isn't a real person, never was," Val said matter of factly towards the voice. She couldn't quite see the person it belonged to yet.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Jackie Weiland

Birthday: 2 April 1959

Hometown: Alternating in Edinburgh (father) and London (mother). Possibly only London soon, due to her father's hopeful business.

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Transfiguration

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two): 1st, 2nd

Biography:
The life of Jacobine Weiland was unconventional in many ways. One was that her mother and father had never been girlfriend and boyfriend. Jackie had been created in the spur of a moment, albeit beautiful, as her father had expressed it. Zak Weiland had never tried to hide the truth and upon learning that he had participated in producing a budding life, and that Olivia wanted to keep it, he had accepted fatherhood without question. He came to become a shining star in the life of Jackie from the day that she came into the world pink and screaming and bursting of life.

Another was that she had been born to a father that was a Quidditch professional. A third that she, at eight, had watched that same father fall from the sky to hit the ground never to walk another step again. The transition from always flying to always sitting had been a shock to the child that had skipped the learn-to-walk to go straight to running, usually away from wherever she was being herded, to could climb the tallest tree and gleefully laugh down at a flailing parent.

(Zak used to climbed after, his laughter mingling with hers.)

Much of Jackie's life was, as such, about the beings that surrounded her, be it a firm but kind mother, a child-father, her doting grandparents (magical and muggles alike), or the extremely soft, black cat sounding the name of Shadow. And, surrounded by a large group of friends, Jackie made sure that there was always a racket to be heard.

To some degree, it was clear that Jackie had grown up with parents that had lots of love but no other children, and that she had grown spoilt for it - she suffered nothing and rode the finest broomsticks, which her father had taken to building, refusing to stop flying or burning for his passion even after a long career ran through his fingers like falling sand (- indeed, he never gave the impression of mourning, accepting it as a change like any other). It was with no small amount of admiration that she watched others handle challenges, learning that things had to be really bad before it could not be handled, and that even really bad things often could. In terms of how wild her ideas could get, this was not always a good thing.

Now she was looking forward to the new chapters of her life which included the new school, and watching her father trying to get his new business onto its feet.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Gryffindor feels strong here.

Personality:
Jackie is a silly, cheerful, firecracker of a girl, though she is not always the most quick-witted and can need people to spell things out for her a few times. She has an issue staying still for long amounts of time, especially if she finds something to be boring, and may start to act up. She's a very active child and enjoys Quidditch, which has been an important part of her life always.

Appearance:
Jackie is slightly below average height for an 11-year-old, which is of no hindrance to her antics whatsoever. She has dark hair and dark hair from her mother, but share a lot of her father's features as well.

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:
The dungeons were cool. She could see how it would have been valuable to be sorted into Slytherin for the dungeons alone - there was something about the moist smell and the drip-dripping of the water along the surface of a damp stone wall. The way the sound moved around the rooms and hallways when she lifted a foot to take another careful step, from mere fascination of the phenomenon. She became submerged in it completely, until a distant echo broke her mind's spell and she turned, brown eyes seaching for light in the protruding darkness.

She wondered if there were trolls down here, or snakes or something (would have been fitting for a Slytherin dungeon), but found that she must, most likely, have happened on a ghost, of which there were many in Hogwarts. This one sounded more careful though, meeker in a way, and Jackie's mind took a leap to fanatasise about the potential of aquiring a ghost friend.

So she shouted with enthusiasm - "Yes!" - not actually knowing what she was answering, for she had not quite heard the words. But the ghost was searching, and surely she was a someone that should be sought!

"I'm here!"

Hi Anthony!

Really sorry about this delay in response!

Your application looks amazing.  There's just a few things I'd like some clarification on before being able to approve.

Your application currently reads as if Anthony received his Hogwarts letter in April 1970, when he is around fourteen years old.  This also appears in the roleplay response with Anthony not receiving his books while at castle.

Typically, Hogwarts letters are received when a child is eleven years old.  If there are circumstances that would drive Anthony to not have received a Hogwarts letter before age fourteen, please submit a Special Request for review.  Otherwise, please revise your application to reflect canon of letters around age eleven and attending Hogwarts at that age.

Also, understandably, his bloodline could be considered Muggleborn if he was raised without awareness to his mother's bloodline.  But because his mother was a witch (not where a magical child appears between two definite non-magical Muggle parents), that would make him a Halfblood.

Once you have made the requested changes, please reply here with your entire revised application.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or another staff member.

Thanks!
- Florence

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Arcadia (Cady) Caldwell

Birthday: April 5th, 1959

Hometown: Ballycastle, Ireland

Bloodline:
Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): First // Second

Biography:
If you are applying to be a first, second, or third year, your biography must be at least one hundred words long.
If you are applying to be a fourth year or above, your biography must be at least three hundred words long.

Arcadia or as she prefers to be called ‘Cady’ was born and still today resides in Ballycastle, Ireland with her mom and younger brother Arthur or ‘Arty’. Their Father left when Arty was three and Arcadia was five after he had an affair with another woman who worked alongside him at the Ministry. Her muggle mother has never trusted a man since - and neither has Cady.

Her mother, Cassandra, is a baker who owns a small bakery in town where they live in the apartment building directly above it. She hasn’t seen her father since he left and Cady had no recollection of magic, so receiving the letter to Hogwarts came as a shock initially - and her mother didn’t react well to the reminder of the man who betrayed her very well either, but she finally allowed Arcadia to attend the school in September on the premise she write home every week and she doesn’t go digging around or asking questions about her dad.

House Request: Gryffindor/Hufflepuff

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?

For the most part Cady is a good child.  She is polite and friendly, loyal and kind but sometimes trouble has a particular way of finding her. She has the overwhelming need to play detective and go on wryly adventures. She is a daydreamer and her imagination knows no bounds all of which often end in disaster, but still she continues her journeys into the great unknown. Her biggest fear is having no friends at Hogwarts as she was raised by muggles and has no idea what wizarding kids are like, or if they will like her. - that, and snakes.

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles?

Cady is red haired like her Mother but she has her Fathers blue eyes. She is small for her age but makes up for it in attitude and character. Her skin is the colour of porcelain and she has a few very light freckles just across her nose.

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:

Option I

When Cady had first heard that Hogwarts had dungeons she knew she would just have to go and check them out. She had visited castles in Ireland, but she had never been inside one and allowed to freely explore the whole place on her own. She had also heard they were haunted by ghosts! The whole castle had them! or so she overheard on the train on the way here - there was ‘apparently’ a girl called Emma something-or-other who’s ghost was often in the dungeons and she was eager to see if it was true.

So this is how she found herself in this moment now, clutching the dark damp walls as she glided the dungeons quickly and quietly, every now and then calling out the name Emma in an eerie voice hoping she would just magically appear, before it got too late and she missed her curfew.

That was when she heard it, another voice calling out for the same girls ghost. Turning the corner she noticed a dark figure ahead and crept up behind her placing a hand quickly on her shoulder hoping it would not pass straight through like it would if it was some kind of ghostly apparition. When it did not, she was relieved but also disappointed.

“Are you looking for that girls ghost too?… Emma something?”
