Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Solanine Serena Joliette de la Roche

Birthday: June 7th, 1955

Hometown: London, England

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): 5th

Biography:
Accident. Calamity. Mishap. Disaster. All words that could describe the moment that her mother, Margaux Hartley, found out she was pregnant once more. After her third child that was supposed to be it, but the universe must have had a different plan because on June 7, 1955 a baby girl was born. Unironically named after a type of poison. Her mother was anything but subtle.

There really wasn’t anything special about the day she was born. There wasn’t a storm or anything really. Just a mediocre day. It was perfectly calm -unlike the baby that had been born. Always crying and soon that crying turned to screaming as she grew. The loudest of her siblings. Seemingly always causing embarrassment to the family. She didn’t really care though.

Growing up she didn’t really have to ask for much. She had her “cousins” and pretty much any toy she could want for. It was a great childhood despite the expectations. She was the daughter of Margaux de la Roche. How could there not be expectations? So she had two sides of her. On one side was her true self -carefree, messy, fearless. On the other side was the side that was expected -controlled, polished, polite. It wasn’t rough by any means, but sometimes she wished that her parents would just accept her.

During her first four years at Hogwarts she has excelled at Charms and dueling, even making it to the finals of the tournament during her second term. With the achievements though there were also downfalls. During her second year, after her parents divorced, her world came crashing down around her. After the man she thought was her father refused to see her it came out that she wasn't even his at all. At this time her relationship with her mother became strained due to lie after lie that her mother told when it came to her father, so Cherry, Moony, and herself took it into their own hands and found her real dad -turns out he wasn't dead after all.

Her third and fourth years were much less exciting unless you count first kisses and first parties as less exciting.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:

Sola was finally free! Well not exactly free -she still had one more class. That class though was perfectly skippable. Plus the weather would soon turn rotten and the pitiful gardens would turn grey. She needed to be in them as much as possible while she still could, so she ran!

Down into the dungeons for a quick costume change then back up into the daylight to live out the story of her life. She would never spend any more time than needed in that skirt. Why did the boys get to wear pants and the girls have to wear stupid skirts anyways? Did they not think that girls deserved to run, jump, and play just like the boys? It was archaic. Well the skirts were cuter at least.

When she got up into the castle and then back out into the sun she paused and let the sun hit her face. The small freckles on her face absorbed the sun’s rays while they still could. The sunlight felt good as she continued walking.

She didn’t really know why she was drawn to the gardens. Maybe it was because her mother had always kept gardens and greenhouses. Nonetheless the gardens at the castle reminded her of home, though she would never admit it.

Once she stepped foot into the gardens something seemed a bit off. Maybe it was from the yelling. Maybe she should have turned the opposite way and gone on with her business, but that just wasn’t her. Plus what if the person needed help. With the smile on her face she stepped into the area where she heard the yelling coming from and immediately stopped as the boy sneezed. A look of distaste accidentally spreading across her face as the boy used his robe as a tissue. Boys were officially disgusting.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Sola blinked for a moment before her smile returned to her face. “Staring isn’t half as bad as what you did to those poor flowers.” She teased. “I heard you yelling and just wanted to see if you needed some help.”

Did she actually want to help him now? Not really, but she did decide that it was best not to mind her own business so she had to accept the consequences.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Arcelia Grace Hunt

Birthday: 3/3/59

Hometown: London

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Transfiguration

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): 1, 2

Biography:

The tingling in her fingers and the swirling in her belly made for an unsteady hand with her paintbrush. Add in the faster beat to her heart that was affecting her concentration and Arcelia was finding this to be a terrible painting. The fairy forest she was trying to paint as a gift for Aurora was looking more like something she made as a three year old. Not that she’d ever be great as an artist, but she knew she could do better than this.

She dropped the brush into the bowl of water at her side and sighed. Her eyes left the muddled brown that was seeping too much into the green of the branches on the trees and across her bedroom. She knew the feeling that was causing her to ruin the painting, but she thought the act of painting would soothe her nerves.

Her eyes landed on her circular bed with the wooden background her and Daddy had painted to look like a sunrise over the sea in summer. Brown eyes trailed over the circular set of shelves built into the bed that started at the base and wound around to the top over the sunrise scene. There were favourite books and little pieces of artwork she’d created tucked into every single shelf. Seashells and sea glass collected from the shore were scattered about as well. The bed was unmade because she always had something better to do than organise things.

In just a short few days she wouldn’t see her room or sleep in her own bed for months and months. Everything was about to change and parts of her mind were telling her it probably wouldn’t be for the better.

Her focus turned to the left and the little piano that she’d painted violets onto the black keys after her daddy had given it to her. There were plenty of colourful smudges over the white keys too, since Arcelia could go from wanting to paint to wanting to play the piano in just a few seconds. She never cleaned those smudges either; the piano was just another piece of her artwork.

And something she wouldn’t be able to take to Hogwarts with her. Hogwarts had to have one, right? There were times she absolutely hated playing the piano, but there were other times when it was all she could think to do to clear her head. Not even throwing paint randomly at a canvas helped with that every time.

Her eyes strayed back over to the corner of the room she’d set up as her little paint studio. It was the closest to the window that overlooked the alley below and the building next door. There was also just a tiny sliver of the city beyond if she leaned far enough to the left. A city that would keep moving along even if she couldn’t go out and explore almost every day anymore.

There was still so much about London she didn’t know and now she was about to leave for a place she knew even less about. She’d asked her parents a little about Hogwarts but it was just in the last couple of weeks that the impending change began weighing on her so she hadn’t gotten a ton of information. Daddy barely mentioned magic at all. Her mum had been a little more helpful, it just hadn’t soothed Arcelia’s anxiety like she hoped.

Her fingers twisted together while her eyes fell over all the paints and brushes and various cups of water mingled with both finished and unfinished pieces. There were several palettes laying about, too, with different colour schemes on them. It was one of these that caught her eye as her new kitten, Sonata, decided to walk right across it. It seemed to be a recently used palette based on the little red and purple paw prints left on the wood floor after Sonata skipped across it.

Finally, some of the tension holding her down lifted and Arcelia giggled as she bent to pick up her new little friend. She spun around her room one more time with the kitten in her arms and told him, “I might have to leave most of this behind, but at least you get to come with.”

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Sort me, please!

Personality:
Introverted but mostly in a way that keeps others from really getting to know her. She’s pretty friendly and good at making people feel comfortable. Very creative; she loves painting but is also musically inclined and enjoys playing the piano (most of the time). Generally shows her positive feelings through touch or with supportive words but is mostly emotionally distant. She has no problem telling someone if she doesn’t like them, however. She can be sensitive but is pretty good at hiding that from others. Don’t ever call her soft.

Appearance:
She’s a bit of a fairy princess mixed with a little rebelliousness. She loves having her long brown hair in a pretty style and usually prefers wearing dresses. Over her dresses she often wears her Daddy’s old leather jacket, resized to fit her better, but still a bit big on her. She’s a bit under average as far as height for her age. Her big, brown eyes mostly look innocent (or naive, to some), but there’s also a sharpness that most people don’t see in them.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:
The gardens were one of the most colourful places in all of Hogwarts. There were shades of so many different colours, Arcelia wasn’t sure they all had a proper name. Not to mention the flowers that had different colours mixed together in their petals, creating swirls and patterns that the little girl could study her entire seven years in the school and still not see every single one.

It was one of the few places she’d found so far that helped her escape her own head. If she was concentrating on studying a new shape or working on her canvas to recreate one of the remarkable colours found here, she wasn’t letting her mind wander to the darker feelings that tried to find her if she wasn’t keeping herself busy enough.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

The interruption scared her. A gasp flew from her mouth and her paintbrush skittered across the canvas, leaving a wide brown streak across an area that should have only had red. Arcelia huffed out a puff of air and began chewing the corner of her bottom lip as she debated if she could salvage the scene on her canvas or if she’d need to start over. Her head tilted side to side as she studied her piece and it was on one of those tilts that she saw a boy rampaging through the landscape she was trying to copy in her painting.

She jumped up from her cross-legged position on the ground and stood as tall as she could, gathering her voice and began to shout, “Hey-” when the boy released a great big giant sneeze.

Her anger evaporated and her hand closed over her mouth to stop a laugh escaping. She was still trying not to laugh at him when he seemed to catch sight of her.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Arcelia shrugged. Maybe staring wasn’t polite, but she was an artist (or was trying to be, anyway), staring at people and things is what she spent a lot of time doing.

Her brown eyes narrowed on him as her arms crossed over her chest. “I wasn’t staring at you. I was painting those flowers you’ve just ruined, so unless you want to become a part of my painting I reckon you should move.”

Hometown: Brighton, England

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): Third (returning), 4th

Biography:
The life that was planned for her before she was born was one of happiness. One with two parents that adored her. Granted her parents weren’t together by the time she was born, but that didn’t matter to them.

She was given only a few months of that life, not that she could remember it though. Her mother was taken from her when she was just a few months old. She didn’t know many of the details, other than what she was raised to believe. That after a shady deal, gone wrong, her mother and her colleagues were killed. Leading to her Uncle Julias and Aunt Iola to take her into their home with open arms. It was far from the truth, but Julias and Iola figured it would be easier to accept the fact that her mom had been killed rather than having the guilt of what the woman who birthed her did lurking behind every corner. In reality her mother was a killer, locked up in Azkaban.

Locked up at the Blackwood Estate in Brighton she was afforded the best tudors money could buy. The best of everything really. Her Uncle doted upon her and treated her like one of his own. He could be harsh, but she knew that he only wanted the best for her and for her to be the best.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:
The first few months of her first year the dungeons had been a daunting place. A place of nightmares where she imagined all types of monsters lurked. Hidden in the crevices of the damp dark place. Still she pushed herself to explore. It turned out that the dungeons weren't so bad.

Plus the creepy crawlies she found down there were fascinating -certainly the best place to find a spider to put in a mean boys bed.

That's what brought her down there at that point anyways. Some stupid boy had broken her new sunglasses that had been shaped like daisies. At least she wouldn't be putting the a poisonous spider in there.

Wandering around she shined her wand upwards looking for spiderwebs. They liked to make their homes in the corners. Honestly the best place for them.

As soon as she laid eyes on a big fella, that looked kinda cuddly, she heard a voice. The eight legs scurried off with a quickness. "Can you shut it?" Aurie yelled from her position. "You scared him away!"

Her anger dissipated quickly though as she realized there was someone else down there with her. Rounding the corner, she finally saw the girl.

"You okay?" She asked, kindly.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Lip Gray Baker

Birthday: 7 June 1955

Hometown:

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
 Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two): Fifth

Biography:
The Baker children are here as part of a routine checkup per the Magical Youth Welfare. Parents are Lewis and Lucy Baker, both temporarily unemployed halfbloods. Family has been receiving services for eleven years next month. Attendance has had a participation rate of 78%. Children are presenting as malnourished, unkept, and showing signs of medical neglect. Born in Birmingham, MYW were called for each birth, and thus our role in care.

The names and ages are as follows: Ty Red Baker, sixteen, currently at Hogwarts. Merr Plum Baker, fifteen, currently at Hogwarts. Kit Green Baker, fourteen, currently at Hogwarts. Opie Black Baker, thirteen, currently at Hogwarts. Lip Grey Baker and Bear Grey Baker, identical twins are twelve, currently at Hogwarts. Children spend most of the summer break at Camp Loki or the Birmingham's Home for Children. They are required to stay at Hogwarts during the holidays to ensure they're cared for properly.

Lip acts like a big brother though he's anything but. Hardly responsible for himself, let alone anyone else. He's close with all of his siblings, but closest with his twin and with Opie. He looks to the eldest two brothers for guidance, and Ty is the father figure they never had. A burden that Lip wouldn't wish upon anyone except his brother because he's good at it.

A class clown, the boy has a mouth on him and uses it inappropriately. Lip likes to be around crowds but doesn't have many people he calls a friend. The Baker kids depend on each other, and no one else. Not really. They all do anything to make a quick buck and make sure they are taken care of. They know and understand the circumstances of how they were raised, and despite acknowledging it wasn't the best, it seems none of the boys can leave that mindset behind them.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Slytherin (I missed the returning check in)

Personality:
Like most all of the Baker children, Lip has a chip on his shoulder. He doesn't trust anyone that isn't family, and doesn't let anyone in. Heavily guarded, he uses humor as a defense mechanism and feels a sense of belonging if he can make others laugh. He doesn't have many, if any, friends and feels that's the way his life should go.

If you don't let anyone in, you can't be disappointed.

But that doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy the company of others or know how to have. He just keeps those walls up.

Appearance:
Lip stands at 5'9 and is fine with that. Dark brown curly hair with hazel eyes, the boy thinks he's incredibly average. He takes long strides, always in a hurry to get his destination, used to running almost always. He has a number of small scars found everywhere from various adventures or tragedies.

How your character kept up with their studies: Lip realized over the last term that if he wanted to get out of the dire home life he was trapped in, that doing well in school would be his only way out. That is, if he wanted to actually make it and not live on the streets. He made studying a priority between the girls and parties, secluding himself away in the woods around their home. His brothers found it odd, but he was desperate to leave his home life.

Roleplay Response:
Honestly, he was a git.

Lip was on his way back to his house from the pool when a small voice echoed in the corridors. A mischievous smirk crossed his features, ready for the opportunity to scare a lower year. It would be mean certainly, but it would also be humorous even if just for a moment or two.

A quiet clear of his throat and his voice was slightly more shrill than normal and answered the poor girl. "It is I, little girl."

Clamping his hand over pursed lips, Lip tried to stifle the laugh about to burst. "Emma Birch will forever haunt these waaaaallls," he wailed, stepping closer to where he thought the voice was coming from. "I will haaaunt you for disturbing my sleeeep!"

Unable to keep himself contained, Lip erupted into a fit of laughter. Stepping from out of the shadows, he faced the younger student. "I'm sorry but that was funny, yeah?"

It surely wasn't to her.

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): Third, Fourth

Biography:

The birth of Valencia Dahlia was one of great importance. The second daughter to the Spanish, pureblood empire was anticipated by family, friends, and enemies alike. She was to be celebrated, and protected, at all costs. With the eldest daughter AWOL, a heavy burden would fall onto her shoulders. However, the young princess would have no idea what her future held.

At a young age, she was without a father, clinging heavily to the side of her mother Sofia. The Dahlia patriarch was arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison, however, all who knew the logistics knew he would out much sooner. The wealth of their name was enough to pull strings for him to have a lesser sentence. He was to be released in 1973. and though she was looking forward to seeing him again, she was also very scared. What if she wasn't what he expected? What if Valencia wasn't any better than her disgraced sister Gracelynn? Those questions plagued her dreams, seeped into her minds always.

All she wanted to do was make her family proud, especially her father.

Studying at Hogwarts was the first step, naturally. Focusing on her strengths, and trying to improve her weaknesses. That's all she could do. Work hard to be rewarded was her mindset.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw, Slytherin

Personality:
Valencia has the outward shell of someone with great confidence, a fake it until you make it perspective. However, on the inside, she’s anything but. Her biggest fear is being alone - being left alone by those who claim to care about her. She may seem a little stuck-up when someone first meets her but it doesn’t take long for her to warm up once she establishes whether you’re trustworthy or not./i]

Appearance:
She has a slim build, mostly due to her hobby of swimming. Like the women in her family, Valencia has cascading jet black hair that reaches the small of her back when straightened. However, she typically wears her hair in loose waves at the castle because she is expected to have her straightened at all times at home. Her eyes change from a darkened green to a hazy brown depending on the weather outside.

Dinner had taken much longer than the girl had anticipated.

Between gossiping with her friends, and trying to finish up last minute homework for Transfiguration, Val was running behind. Just her luck - she had accidentally knocked over her goblet when getting up from the table. Of course. That's precisely why she shouldn't rush, her mother's voice echoed far too loudly in her mind. Slow and steady wins the race, being hasty only resulted in mistakes. Proper ladies did everything with a purpose, they didn't rush through the actions just to be the first one finished.

Even at the castle, she was haunted by her family.

After retrieving her things and ensure the mess was cleaned, Valencia hurried out of the Great Hall and took a wrong turn. Of course.  Another mistake had her towards the dungeons, a vastly different destination than the library. She let out a low, frustrated sigh once she realized where her feet had carried her. A beat later, and a loud groan escaped, entirely mad at herself.

And a quiet, frightened voice echoed down the corridor. The words seemed familiar, and it didn't take long for her to realize it was just another prank the upper years enjoyed terrorizing the first and second years with. She took a step towards the voice, moving to hold her books against her chest.

"Emma Birch isn't a real person, never was," Val said matter of factly towards the voice. She couldn't quite see the person it belonged to yet.
