Third time's a charm!
Application for Hogwarts School
→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Joey Kedding
Birthday: September 22nd, 1944
Hometown: The flat above the chocolate shop, London
Bloodline: Pureblood
Magical Strength (pick one): Transfiguration
Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination
Year (pick two): Forth, secondly Fifth
Biography:
Joey Kedding was born wild.
And not just because she came into the world howling. The day she was born, she was different. She entered the world screaming and wailing, kicking and demanding attention. And she has not calmed down a moment since. Joey Kedding never was a child of hesitance. From the moment she could, she was on the move. A ball of energy just aching to go. Getting into what she ought to stay out of and doing what she ought not to do. Nothing frightened her. Crawling off the bed was an adventure. Touching the oven was a lesson. Walking into a busy street was thrilling. Talking with the ghosts of the family chocolate shop was just another day. Nothing was ever enough, she was always looking for the next place to explore, the next adventure, the next thrill.
Her dad was different, too. But he was afraid of their differences. He was afraid the moment she first opened her eyes. Though he tries to act otherwise, and he’s grown to settle his fear, it has never diminished. Today, she knows why.
At first, Joey thought he was afraid of her. She’d be reluctant to look at him sometimes, she could sense his hesitation. But time made her realize he was afraid for her. Afraid of what she might do. He was afraid whenever she lost her temper. He was afraid when she lashed out. He was afraid when she did something dangerous. But he was most afraid because she was just like him. And, just like him, she was a werewolf. And the rest of the world did not look kindly on them.
Her Dad was afraid, but Joey was not.
She was the wolf. They were one entity. She never remembered a time without it. But, as childhood faded, Joey was thrown into a cruel world. She learned that people were unkind to those who were different. Her first true introduction was just a few months shy of starting her first year at Hogwarts. Headlines splashed across the papers: werewolf lose at Hogwarts. The school unsafe. A monster attacked students. There was no hesitation from the world to demonize the wolf. Her family.
The second lesson came in the months after. She learned of her father's struggle to put food on the table for everyone, to keep the chocolate shop afloat due to harsh restrictions on when they could be open, when the storefront was vandalized with cruel words etched across the colorful, inviting windows, when people walked by and turned their noses up at them, offered cruel words, or worse yet spit or kicked dirt in their direction.
And then, over the summer she received another hard lesson: the family's decision not to send her to Hogwarts.
It was for her own good, they said. She'd be safer. They'd be safer.
She couldn't argue it, she had seen with her own eyes what could go wrong.
Joey was fortunate enough that her mother was once a Hogwarts Head of House and could educate her from within their home, but every time the classes walked through Hogsmeade it was a reminder of what she was missing out on. Time went by, and with each passing year Joey would start a new crusade to beg her parents to allow her to go to Hogwarts. She'd be careful. She wouldn't tell anyone. She promised.
And, with a bit of help from her Uncle, she got her way.
With preparations established, her father at least momentarily convinced, Joey was handed an invitation to finish her schooling at the academy that had taught her parents and siblings. There had been a moment of hesitation, questioning if it would really be OK. But she wouldn't back down from this change: starting in September, she'd be going to Hogwarts.

House Request: Hufflepuff
Personality:
Joey is energy and joy wrapped into a tiny package. She exudes enthusiasm for nearly everything she’s a part of, from classes to quidditch to simple social interactions. She’s the type of person who gives her full attention to other people, more eagerly wants to give help than receive, and strives to bring a little happiness into the world.
She inherited this caring nature from her family. The love and support they gave to one another, what they gave when they had little. How they overcame hardship and were thankful for what they had. Joey grew up witnessing what kindness was and she just wants to share it with everyone else.
When it comes to dealing with more difficult situations or struggles, she still takes a page from her childhood book. She doesn’t shy from shutting prejudice down and won’t hesitate to tell people how wrong their views are if they are hurtful. She has a lot of opinions, and she never hesitates to share them.
But as she begins to navigate the world, she realizes the structure and rules that her mother had tried to teach her were there for a reason. The lies she had to tell were not bad, but a necessity to live in the world. The dichotomy wasn't something she was accustomed to, and as she starts her first year at Hogwarts she'll have to navigate it even further.
Appearance:
If you saw Joey Kedding today, you wouldn’t recognize her from a year ago. Last year, she was a petit twig with limbs and feet too long for her small frame and awkward proportions. Joey suffered from a mouth of crooked or missing baby teeth and a mess of unkempt, wild brown curls that took over every inch of her frame and often spilled over her face. Her skin was often smudged with some kind of dirt or food, and her clothes were often baggy and out of style. She lacked any awareness of her appearance, and she had little care or regard for looking good.
Thanks to an incident with her brother and a piece of never-ending bubble gum, she had to chop a good portion of her hair. Eva taught her how to keep the wild locks healthy and sleek. As a late bloomer, the last of her baby teeth fell out and were replaced with perfectly straight adult pearls.
At the beginning of summer (and if you asked her father it was overnight) she seemed to change. She sprung up from a gangly mess to a petite woman. Her frame filled out and once lanky legs were strong and muscular from playing Quidditch with her siblings. She needed a new wardrobe after she’d outgrown old clothes, she listened to Eva when the oldest Kedding told her how to take care of her skin and hair, and suddenly… she was different. And she didn’t just look different, she felt different. And she liked it.

Option I:
The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.
A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.
The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.
Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.
Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.
If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.
Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.
"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.
"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"
The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.
When the voice rang out in the otherwise quiet corridor, Joey Kedding stopped short. The sputtering whimper laced with fear echoed in the empty space, bouncing along the stone walls, amplified by eerie silence.
A smile played along Joey’s face. She couldn’t help it. The young voice reminded her of the twins, skittish and hesitant and so fearful they practically begged to be tormented.
No, no. She couldn't do that.
Joey battled within herself for a prolonged moment, debating if she wanted to tease the poor girl, but the stretching silence kept her from thinking too long. Stepping into the light illuminated a wide, toothy smile that spread across freckled cheeks, Joey offered her palms upright in surrender, “Hey there- sorry for startling you.” Her voice was honey, gentle and soothing, small steps taking her closer to the golden haired girl.
“I’m not sure ‘bout Emma Birch,” A head of curls looked side to side, taking in the abandoned halls and the lanterns that glowed ominously, as though she expected the stranger to pop out, “But I can help you look, if you’d like?”
