Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Beatrix Mildred Lancaster

Birthday: April 11th, 1929
Hometown: Whistable, Kent, England

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Transfiguration
Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): Second/Third

Biography:
Born into the prestigious Lancaster family, Beatrix Mildred Lancaster is the youngest child to Oliver Sebastian Lancaster and his wife, Blanche Alayne Lancaster nee Lerioux. Being the baby of her family carried its perks – Beatrix was coddled and spoiled, the fair-haired cherubic child who was as sweet as she was quiet. She grew up in Whistable, on a fair sized estate near the family manor, and often took to horseback riding, broom flying, and swimming at the nearby beach. If she had been given older sisters instead of brothers, perhaps this sweetness would have retained itself more fully in her life. Though Simon (4 years older) and Kevan (2 years older) love their little sister dearly, they naturally needed someone to torment. Surviving growing up with two older brothers meant harnessing the powers of brashness and fighting for when the situation became most dire.
Her first trial came when she arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1940/41. She discovered a natural talent for Transfiguration and a disadvantage at Conjuring & Summoning – the professed talent of the Lancaster clan. So Beatrix, who was used to feeling comfortable, became embarrassed at her apparent oddities. The only solace she feels is when she is in the company of her favourite uncle, William, whose natural skills with Transfiguration gave him a career and a passion that matches her own curiosity.
Beatrix, at 12 years of age, maintains a sweet relationship with the majority of her family, and she is undoubtedly the favourite of her father and her grandmother, dubbed their "little flower" from the moment of her birth. She enjoys school immensely, though does not have the same social talent her brothers seem to have inherited. The few friends she does have though are her greatest treasures and she would defend them loyally at all costs.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Gryffindor

Personality: Beatrix is curious and quiet, but brash and headstrong more often than not. She is more bookish than she is brave; however, she has learned that courage comes from what someone does when she is afraid, and has made it her personal mantra to always rise above any challenge or test. Guarded and intensely loyal, she is the sort of gem that her friends would unconsciously acknowledge. The only praise she requires is that of her family, but she can sometimes be remotely proud in the face of a dare. Most professors would cite her as being primarily sweet in nature.

Appearance: Beatrix has always been a beautiful child. Golden hair, sweet smile, and slightly tall for her age, she is growing up with grace. She has her father's childlike features and her mother's sawdust hair. Beatrix also inherited her family's blue eyes, large, round and always curious. When she is not in her Hogwarts uniform, she is almost always clad in a sweater (knit by her grandmother), skirt, stockings, and Oxfords. She always wears a golden chain with a red rose locket given to her by her father. It holds pictures of her mother, father, and brothers inside.

She couldn't understand what all of the fuss meant, really.
After all, it was only Quidditch, and the majority of the student body was more excited about the apparent scandal of the leading house losing than the actual game itself. Beatrix happened to be more excited about her Transfiguration project she was currently working on.
The game itself had been thrilling enough. A child of twelve was happy to experience most things in a crowd of screaming youths, even if that individual child could not care two straws about the apparent outcome. If Gryffindor won, she would be happy. If another team won, her projects and essays and assignments would still be due when their due dates came, and life would carry on.
For her, nothing would change.
She still saw that the treatment of the poor boy who had "lost it all", who had dropped the Quaffle just before scoring the winning goal, would be treated unfairly. After all, it was only a game. A game that had only been won three years in a row. People lost all the time. All one needed to do to see this was take a History class. Very rarely did failing come down to one person's error.

So when Beatrix saw poor James leaving the Great Hall in a fit of near tears, she decided to follow him. Not because she cared. But because she did not care, and didn't see why he should either.
They got halfway down the corridor before he heard her. Beatrix, who was used to her brothers' fits of tears on the rare occasions they did occur, stared with her round blue eyes at James as he spun around. His face was still streaked with mud and tears and snot and shame.
"WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"
Beatrix blinked at him as he sniffled. She could feel her cheeks flush with slight colour.
"Why would I want to take a picture?" she asked in a clear voice. Before he could start yelling (or worse – weeping), she spoke again. "You really shouldn't care so much, you know. It's only Quidditch. Someone needs to lose, or else there isn't a game. Besides – three years isn't very long for a team to be undefeated. Slytherin was undefeated from 1920 to 1931, and that is eleven years. That's eight years longer than three years. You shouldn't feel so bad. And anyone who tries to make you feel bad is…is…not a good person, so you shouldn't care what they say anyway."
Having said her piece, she allowed her cheeks to turn another shade of pink and pressed her lips together. She hadn't thought this far ahead.

Her first trial came when she arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1940/41. No one in her family seemed very concerned that she was sorted into Gryffindor rather than the expected house of Ravenclaw, but it did not erase the feeling of unease from the pit of Beatrix's stomach as she found herself wearing scarlet and gold rather than blue and gray. The second blow came when she discovered a natural talent for Transfiguration and a disadvantage at Conjuring & Summoning – the professed talent of the Lancaster clan.
