Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Calix Glass

Birthday:July 18th, 1941

Hometown: Isle of Skye

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): 4th or 3rd

Biography:
Calix’s parents died when she was only a few years old, instantly orphaning her and her younger brother, Elias. The children were then adopted by her father’s brother and wife. The Glass’s own a well established distillery in the Highlands, and have done quite well for themselves financially. Unfortunately they were never able to have children of their own, but were more than happy to take in Elias and Calix, in spite of the circumstances. Lorna and Calum fostered a deep sense of kindness and compassion in Calix as a young child, and they have become a guiding moral compass for her. She loves her aunt and uncle dearly, and finds solace in the comfortable, easy relationship she shares with them. While her aunt can match her fiery wildness with her own, her uncle offers a gentler, more soothing nature.

A small, quiet part of her longs for the fragmented, distant memories of her parents, and she will often leave small gifts for them, whether it’s knotted twigs by the river, or a river-polished stone in a soft bed of moss. Her grief for her parents is a side she lets no one else see, especially Elias. She would rather him see her as the confident, self-assured older sister, and would rather be there for him when he needs her. She has a close relationship with her brother, in spite of the difference in their ages, and she often confides in him. Rarely bad tempered, Calix often finds humour in the smallest things. She is slow to anger, and generally a playful person, although her mischievous side isn’t always appreciated by others. Unfortunately for Elias, her younger brother often takes the brunt of her many jokes and tricks. While she might tease him mercilessly, Calix would do anything for her brother. There is no length she wouldn’t go to for her family, or the people she cares for.

A natural leader, she is quick to make friends and generally easy to get along with. Growing up in the outdoors of her aunt and uncle’s large estate fostered an innated fearlessness, and al almost oblivious disregard for her own mortality. She risks herself needlessly, and often carelessly, with little to no thought for the consequences. Calix prefers to be outside, engaged in physical activates, whether it’s exploring nature, flying, or tending to the magical creatures that wander onto her aunt and uncle’s land. She will complete her school work of out a sense of duty, but holds very little interest in her studies. She is often plagued by a driving sense of recklessness, and will escape the indoors as often as possible.

House Request:

Personality:
Calix is outgoing, spontaneous, and ridiculously reckless. She never considers the consequences of her actions, and flies by the whim of her desires. If she sees a chance that interests her, she’ll leap in head first with zero thought to the repercussions. As a chaser of adrenaline and excitement, she loathes the boredom that results from sitting inside, reading, or studying. She is not a gifted student, and works only hard enough to achieve passing grades. While she is easy going and gets along with most, she has a deep-seated fear of loneliness and abandonment, and willingly outruns her fears and worries rather than deal with them. She prefers to be outdoors, engaging in active sports, like quidditch or football. Calix genuinely enjoys the company of others, and generally gives them the benefit of the doubt.

Appearance:
Tall for her age, Calix is wiry and thin. Her busy, active lifestyle has made her body stronger than she looks. Clear hazel eyes are often followed by an easygoing, if mischievous grin, and long, fiery hair frames her face. It is often left wild and uncombed about her. She prefers loose, comfortable clothing, but is accustomed to finer dress as well. She is the spitting image of her deceased mother, which both pleases and grieves her.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Cold, grey stones pressed against her, setting her teeth on edge. Calix stifled a groan, longing for the warmth of sunlight, or the freshness of a mountain breeze across her face. She hated the dim, dankness, and the foul smell that permeated out from the mildew, creaky, old doors. She quickened her stride, long legs carrying her further into the dungeon.

”H-h-hello?” a quiet voice drifted towards her, so soft Calix paused her steps, tilting her head as she listened. Was it actually a voice she had heard? Calix shook her head, prepared to dismiss it when the voice echoed towards her again.

“Hello! Is Emma Birch here?” the voice called again, louder this time. Calix strode forwards, eyes narrowed slightly as she scanned the hall in front of her. She offered a friendly smile to the young girl who appeared before her. Calix winked at her, pretending not to notice the girl’s obvious discomfort. “Walk with me the rest of the way?” she asked.

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Calix Glass

Gender: Female

Age: Thirteen

Bloodline: Pureblood

Parents/Guardians: Calix’s parents died of dragon pox when she was three. Her and her younger brother were taken in and raised by their aunt and uncle. Calum and Lorna Calix are well known in the highlands by the community of wizards and witches who reside there. Lorna has a reputation as the best and worst woman to go drinking with, and Calum compliments his wife with a quieter, more grounded nature. Both Calum and Lorna love their niece and nephew as if they were their own, as they never had children of their own. They never tried to replace their lost parents, but rather filled the void with empathy and guidance as they strove to raise the children as best they could.

Residence: Calix lives with her brother, aunt, and uncle in the Isle of Skye. They enjoy the pastoral life of the Scottish Highlands. Lorna owns and operates the family farm and distillery that have belonged to her family for generations. When not tending the herd of cattle, she is notorious for brewing, and generously sampling, the island’s finest whiskey. Calix and her brother grew up on the large estate, playing wildly outdoors as the shaggy heard of cattle grazed nearby.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Calix inhaled, savouring the taste of the clear, clean air. Movement caught her gaze, and she glanced up at the three boys zooming through the sky. A grin tugged at the corner of her mouth as their shouts of excitement drifted down to where she stood. She tracked their progress as they flew, the snitch a tiny spark of glinting gold as he fingers itched for a broom that was miles away.

John, I said wait up!” a shrill voice cried. Calix shifted her gaze to the small girl, wailing her resentment as she tugged at the broom. Calix smiled again, a mixture of amusement and sympathy twisting in her eyes. She remembered all too keenly the frustration of her own first toy broom, tethered too close to the earth when the clouds swirled so invitingly above. She stifled her chuckle as the girl was tipped to the ground.

Calix blinked as the girl fixed her blue eyes on her. You! Do you want to play?” The friendly smile returned to Calix’s mouth, and she shrugged. “Sure,” she answered simply, as she walked over to the girl. She reached out to pull the broom from where the little girl had stuck it in the ground. She winked conspiringly. “Let’s see if we can get this thing to fly a little higher.”
