Biography: (300 words minimum.)

The upbringing of adopted child Jack Lewis was fairly typical of an only child of a wealthy, well-known Pureblood family.  Among the endless dinner parties, balls, and outings, he was also subjected to the ideas of prearranged marriages while attending Hogwarts. Thankfully, none of the suggestions had seen the light of day, for whatever reason. (secretly he thought his mother couldn’t find a girl who she deemed fit) He wasted his years playing Seeker for his house team, Slytherin.  He also found a bit of enjoyment writing for Spellbound for a couple terms, but ultimately finding his home in the Dueling Club, joining each year.

Perhaps that was fate telling him of his impending doom future.

Towards the beginning of his sixth year, everything was beginning to fall apart. His long-time girlfriend Penelope Fairchild had left him for infamous playboy Michael Bott (curse him) Of course, this only fueled his desire to be even better at the activities he was involved in, further pleasing his parents. He had a phenomenal few games of quidditch, getting the score for his snakes each time. Everything was going great, despite his heartbreak.

The limelight wouldn’t stay on just him for long, though.

With only a few days left of Christmas break, Jack woke up to a loud, gargling noise coming from his parents‘ room. Upon arrival, he caught a glimpse of his mother’s lifeless, bloody body, and was snatched by the culprit. Despite his struggles, the culprit (which all he remembers is a black hood) locked him in a dark closet, where he wasn’t found for three days, in which he was in state of shock.  (Ever since then, he has had an intense fear of the dark, always sleeping with a light on.) He returned to Hogwarts against protests, soft cautions from professors, and quiet rumors from his fellow students, determined to make his mother proud.

Upon graduation and against his father’s wishes, Jack volunteered and joined Merlin’s Order of Defense. The seventeen year old worked hard, following orders, finding it much easier to listen to an authoritative figure that wasn’t his father. He found their work honorable, and something he owed to his people, his mother, even if she weren’t around to see. He felt it was more than just putting his life on the line; it was almost about proving something to himself. That he was capable of more than just being an heir.

Being in the MoD gave him a sense of self-worth, and he dared stray away from his family’s long line of Oblivators and Hit Wizards. (they went hand in hand, according to his father) Instead, when turning 18, he decided to train with the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, as well as the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, completing his training in the summer of 1941. He enjoyed his work there very much, finding it just another way to help people, like he was already doing with the Defense. His father protested, insisting he stop rebelling and go into the family business, but he wanted no part of it. He knew his father meant well, that he wanted to keep his son close, especially it being so soon after his wife dying, but Jack couldn’t stay in the home where he found her body. It was much too hard

In the winter of 1941, he woke to the sound of hard knocks on his door. At the time, he was living in a small flat (against the consistent protests of his father Roberto, and he was sure his mother Lillian would agree) while going through his various training. Two Ministry officials stood at his door, telling him the most heart wrenching news for the second time in his life. Roberto had been murdered just outside their holiday home in France, and it looked like the same scene as his mother.

Instead of falling into a deep depression as most thought, he used the frustration and sadness and channeled it into a hard determination. He was now the Head of Family, and he needed a clear head on his shoulders. So instead of taking time away from his training, Jack worked harder than ever.

Finishing both programs when he turned twenty-two in 1943, Jack had finally completed the only thing his father had wanted him to do. With this information, he worked hard in the Ministry, raising in the ranks, keeping the chip on his shoulder.

Until he received an owl from his birth mother…..

Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:

The day had been dragging on, being buried under the mounds of paperwork in his office. He swore he would never leave for holiday again, or at least take some of the work with him, but then, that wouldn't be much a holiday would it?

He really needed to find an assistant. But he doubted Martin would like that.

The thought made him chuckle, brushing strays of his shoulder length hair from his frame. The chaos of Diagon Alley was something he welcomed, making Jack feel right at home again. The familiarity brought a smile to his lips, the noise ringing in his ears sounding like music.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!”

Then a voice startled him, forcing the man to stop in his tracks. Glancing to his right, there was a woman searching for something, and he pushed his way through.

"Do you need some assistance, Madame?" he offered his hand to her.

Hi, Jack!

Your application's coming along nicely, there's just a few things we'll need you to adjust before we can get you accepted.

Firstly, you mention that Jack completed Accidental Magic Reversal Squad and Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes training. The Accidental Magic Reversal Squad is a subsection of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, so Jack would have completed his training only in Accidental Magic Reversal (which falls under the umbrella of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes). You also mention that Jack completed his Auror training in 1943 and Obliviator training in 1944. Characters who are under 25 years of age are required to undergo three IC years of training for each separate job that they take up. Therefore, Jack would have completed his Auror training in 1944, and his Obliviator training in 1947. Please edit your education and the relevant parts of your biography to fix both of these things.

Secondly, the scene in which Jack's adoptive mother is murdered:

Quote
With only a few days left of Christmas break, Jack woke up to a loud, gargling noise coming from his parents‘ room. Upon arrival, he caught a glimpse of his mother’s lifeless, bloody body, and was snatched by the culprit. Despite his struggles, the culprit (which all he remembers is a black hood) locked him in a dark closet, where he wasn’t found for three days, in which he was in state of shock.  (Ever since then, he has had an intense fear of the dark, always sleeping with a light on.)

This is a little too graphic for our site rating, as there should be no dwelling on potentially graphic violence. If you could cut out all detail, and instead change this to merely a passing mention (something like: 'With only a few days left of Christmas break, something terrible happened. Somebody broke into the house and took his mother's life.' would be sufficient), that would be great. Similarly, Jack being locked in a closet for three days would fall under abuse of minors, something which is not permitted onsite. Please remove this from your biography.

Just out of interest, was there a motive behind the deaths of both his parents? Was it money, maybe a debt? Revenge? A work-related or a personal dispute? A line or two of potential explanation (without dwelling on any violence or graphic detail) for their deaths would be great.

Thirdly, one smaller thing:

Quote
He had a phenomenal few games of quidditch, getting the score for his snakes each time.

This makes it sound as though he won every game for Slytherin, and as we have a long-established canon on site, this would be incorrect. If you could reword slightly, or remove the bolded phrase, that would work nicely.

When you've made the required changes, please repost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look. Thanks!

Upon finishing the Auror/Hit Wizard program when he turned twenty-three in 1944, Jack picked up where he left off, and finished his secondary program in 1946. He had finally completed the only thing his father had wanted him to do. With this information, he worked hard in the Ministry, raising in the ranks, keeping the chip on his shoulder.

Hi Jack!

Thanks for taking the time to make changes to your application. There's a couple of things that still need changing, though.

Quote
He wasted his years playing Seeker for his house team, Slytherin.

Quote
He had a phenomenal THREE games of quidditch, HELPING his teammates score each time.

As you know, this site has been around for more than fifteen years. This means we have A LOT of history. While it's perfectly fine to say something like "Jack played on Slytherin's Quidditch team." You should not refer to him playing a specific position or playing in any number of games. We've had actual characters playing Seeker and all the other positions. It's unfair to them and their hard work to try to place your character in one of those positions or to claim your character had anything to do with the game being won or lost. Please edit the above sentences to be as vague as possible.

Once you've made the requested changes, please post your entire revised application below and we'll be happy to take another look.

Thanks!
