Kylie had been 10 when it happened.  When her parents abandoned her.  One moment she had been asleep (as any 10 year old should have been at the time) in her bed, in her room, in her house, the next waking up to screaming.  There had been a woman in her room-only she wasn't in her room anymore.  Kylie was lying on the ground in front of a house.  The woman screamed again, and Kylie scrambled to her feet.  Then a man appeared right next to her, and held out his arm.  "Grab on."

"Why?" Kylie had asked curiously.

"Just do it!"  The man had snapped.  Frightened, Kylie had held on.  The man had raised what Kylie had thought of back then as a stick, and regally declared-"Obliviate!".  Then the man apparated away with Kylie, to the orphanage where she lived now.   'Osweld's Orphanage.'   The man had disappeared as soon as he came, and Kylie never saw him again.

Kylie wished about 3 times a  day that she would be adopted.  But no-one ever came.   Then she would wish her family would come for her.  And then she remembered her family had abandoned her, and probably didn't want to adopt her.  Or know her.  Besides, even if they did come for her, they wouldn't be able to adopt her.  They weren't magical-that is, to say, witches or wizards.    At least that's what Miranda, the orphanage owner said.   Kylie couldn't remember anything about her parents.

Or about any of her family.

Growing up in the orphanage was rough: No one liked Kylie.  No one liked anyone.  The people who ran the orphanage had the emotional range of teaspoons.  Their heart were like stone, their souls ice.  It was almost like growing up in an army base.  Kylie thought about running away multiple times.  She did run away multiple times.  But every time she got caught, and eventually she gave up.  On running away I mean.  She still wanted to leave, but accepted that that wasn't the right tactic.  Kylie still wasn't sure what the right tactic was.  She would just have to wait.

But then she got her letter.  Kylie rejoiced at the fact she would only have to stay at the orphanage for three months a year.  It would be amazing! Beautiful! Exciting!  A whole new life! And then she realized the horrible truth:  it would not be much better.  She would still have to wear her badge, the people from the orphanage would be going with her.  Of course they might end up in a different house, but still.  She would never be free from her muggle-born status.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality: Kylie is generally a kind, loving person, but she can be sarcastic at times.  She had always had this strange fear of the undead: mummies, skeletons, zombies, werewolves, vampires.  You name it, she was afraid of it.  Her friends-or used-to-be-friends- made fun of her for it, so she pretended like she wasn't afraid.  On a good day, Kylie is nice, funny, and generally likable.  On a bad day though- you wouldn't want to be within ten feet of her.  She would resort to 1-word sentences, and ignore everyone.  Kylie likes to day dream-except they're not really dreams are they?  It's reality.

Appearance: Kylie has long curly dark-brown hair with hazel eyes.  She is about medium build, with muscle but not that much.  Kylie is 5 '2 tall, about average for a 13 year old.  She has a mild case of acne that isn't even all that bad, but the teasing she got makes it seem about 10 times worse. So as soon as a had her own wand, she read as many books as she could to find out how to hide her acne using spells.  After about a week of reading she felt ready to try it, so she did.  And it worked.

Kylie stabbed her mashed potatoes with her fork, and carried them up to her mouth. Closing her lips around the fork, she thought about the Quidditch match that had happened earlier.  It had been a close game, and Kylie had been on the edge of her seat the whole time.  But in the end, the better team had won.

Quidditch had always fasinated Kylie, but she didn't want to play.  She wasn't very good at it, and there was too high a risk of injury.  Not even the best players could escape the season unharmed.  Speaking of ingury, not all of it was phisical.

Kylie saw a chaser from the losing team enter the Great Hall, and collapse onto a bench.  The teen folded his arms and laid his head in them. He stayed that way for a while, until he exploded up from the bench, and stormed out of the hall.

Kylie pushed the bench she was sitting on back, and weaved around the teens in her path. She pushed open the doors into the quieter halls outside.  Glancing around quickly, Kylie spotted the boy stomping away.  She rushed to catch up
with him, and when she finally did, he whirled around and shouted out:

"WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"
Kylie stared at his tear filled eyes, and realized she would have to boost his confidence a bit.  "I-I don't want to take a picture."

"And I don't think you're a loser either."  Kylie continued.  "It's not your fault: We all make mistakes.  There's no shame in it.  There's only shame if you allow it to rule you.  I don't care about the Quidditch, but I do care if your moping around all day.  Now come on: I don't think you ate as much as you should."  Kylie wrinkled her nose.  "And after that take a shower, please." Kylie started towards the great hall, and gestured for James to follow her.

Kate lives with her mom, Ashley Freener.  She's never seen her dad-or at least she doesn't remember him.  Her mom wouldn't talk about him, and had no pictures of him.  The only thing she would say was his name: Cody Diamond.  Kate has always secretly wanted too see her dad-even if he is muggle.  People didn't like muggles or muggleborns, so Kate's mom pretended that she had simply divorced and that they were a pureblood family.   Kate's friends didn't like muggleborns either: most of their jokes were about muggles.  And most of the jokes were insulting.  Kate was a diceplined and kind: at least when her mom was around (Ashley was very fond of manners and such).  Kate usually didn't obey rules (unless they were life-threatening ones).  Kate knew when to stop.  Kate's mom praised her about her 'behavior', and Kate liked her praise.  Kate's mom also praised her on her brain.  She said Kate was very smart for nine.  Kate liked to think she was smart, but thought it was just mother's praise.  She thought she was average.  Plus she didn't want Ravenclaw: she wanted Hufflepuff (her mother had been Gryffindor).  Kate had an okay body build-strong mucsles and such.  Not bulging-out-of-your-arms muscles, but some.  Her mom wanted her to do a sport, so she did football-or soccer, depending on where you lived.  In football she played defense.  And she was pretty good at it too. Kate was sure that was the sport she was meant to do: it was her sport.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

"...Do you want to play?"  Kate turned to see a small girl standing next to a broom embeded in the ground.  The girl looked harmless, but the anger in her eyes said otherwise.  Kate had been looking for someone to play with her-particularaly those three boys.  But Kate thought she'd give this girl a chance.  "Depends.  Could we play soccer?" Kate gestured to the black-and-white ball beneath her foot.
