Biography:
Dearest most darling Cissy.

She was always a pet, darling Pacifica (or Narcissa, for she has never decided which of her two names she likes best, and likes to be called each in turn). Born a pretty child with lovely dark eyes, mischievous ways, and a few petty habits that charmed rather than annoyed her family, Cissy enjoyed a serene childhood. She was not only spoiled but adored, raised by two intelligent people with the good fortune to find love in their arranged marriage; in short, her childhood was the very best kind of boring.

As a result of this upbringing, Pacifica grew into quite a clever girl with refined tastes and ambitious inclinations -- if not always the best intentions, for she was never the kindest of girls, and had something of a bored, selfish streak, as well as the tendency to both cause and enjoy trouble. Always somewhat restless, but also a younger child of many, she developed a taste for acquiring more than what she had been given -- no matter what it exactly was. This desire of hers especially increased once she and her family moved to America for a few years: since childhood, she had always romanticized Hogwarts out of a fascination with its alumni, history, customs, and importance to her family history, and deeply desired to attend it, but was denied the chance due to her father’s financial business in the Americas. Frustrated and somewhat resentful, Pacifica schemed and schemed to be allowed to attend, engaging in all sorts of ploys and little stunts (she always had a dramatic flair when it suited her) to rope them into agreement.

Unfortunately, by the time she was ready for Hogwarts, her Father was a little too pleased with how business was going in the Americas, and both parents had become thoroughly averse to the idea of Hogwarts once they sensed war brewing in Europe. Already unhappy with her recent engagement to Vincenzo Kedding, Pacifica’s resentment towards her parents grew.

Eventually, however, she managed to nudge her parents into giving way a little, and was allowed to return to Britain for schooling. Yet this was on one condition: that she always be under her Grandfather’s watchful eye. Hogwarts, naturally, didn't quite fit into those terms. This, of course, was not the sort of route that Pacifica had in mind.

So as she said good bye to her fiancé and heard his own offer to intervene on her behalf with her father, Pacifica -- fed up, and insulted by the offer itself -- began to think on how best to achieve her goals.

Her conclusion? Convince her grandfather first, and not her father. Arsenius Paladin was, after all, the Head of the family.

And so began a rather interesting year.

House Request: Slytherin.

The House Pacifica least suits is likely Hufflepuff. Her loyalty to her family is strong, and her obedience to her parents and grandfather’s wishes most assuredly present, but both traits are by no means exceptional and are more the product of a pureblood upbringing than anything else. Nor is she consistently hardworking or very patient or inclusive, being selective about her aims, fickle in some ways, and hardheaded about people.

Gryffindor might suit her in that she’s rather loud and bold and disdains being told what to do by anyone outside her family -- on the other hand, however, she isn’t necessarily one for chivalry and honor (she tends to go the Slytherin route when it comes to those things, choosing her own hide fairly often). Despite her loudness she isn’t rash at all, but rather calculative.

She does also love to read, but it is worthing noting that she does not particularly value learning for its own sake, and can be a little illogical.

Personality: Cissy is a lively type. She likes causing trouble, getting attention, and being envied. Cheerful and insouciant, she is generally rather indifferent to other people’s reactions to and opinions of her unless they genuinely manage to penetrate her airy exterior and strike some chord within her. Though sweet to the people she likes, she is somewhat petty and perhaps even ruthless when so prompted, behaving with all the slyness and meanness of a vindictive teenage girl towards those she doesn’t care for. A little bit of a snob due to her elite (if not purist) upbringing, Cissy is fairly stubborn about certain opinions and ideas; however, she usually doesn’t care enough about anything or anyone to be an overall stubborn person, and is very easygoing.

Despite her happy childhood, Cissy is strangely somewhat cynical and critical, as well as suspicious of people -- mainly men (and particularly her fiancé, Vincenzo Kedding); this may be due in part to her extensive reading and observation of other women’s romances, which have jaded her expectations of romance, but is also simply due to distrustfulness being a core part of her personality. While she has a naiver streak at times, Cissy is generally shrewd in interpersonal affairs. Much like her grandfather, Arsenius, she is rather manipulative, and will manipulate people both for ‘good’ (whether hers or theirs) and for ill. More often than not, though, it’s to entertain herself. She likes to rile people up and meddle in their affairs and has been known to happily ‘appropriate’ things she likes (very often money).

Lastly, Cissy is ambitious -- though currently directionless, and in search of a target to focus her energies on. Being an independent creature at heart, Cissy feels the need to distinguish herself from her family, particularly its females, and to make it on her own as a witch.

Appearance: Cissy is a beautiful young lady with dark eyes and an appearance typical of a Eurasian parentage. Small and slender, she dresses herself fashionably and takes great pains with her appearance. She has a penchant for coloring her hair different natural shades.

Option 2

“Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewee – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always so elusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something, they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn’t her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She had to come back with quotes.

Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Humming, Pacifica sped up a little on purpose.

“Hello, Astrid,” she chirped when her stride was at last matched. "Aren't you working up a sweat today?" Her answer was, however, obligingly prompt: "I think it’s a lovely idea to branch out into French cuisine, but as for frogs--” the pert nose wrinkled. "--I like them, so I don’t fancy that particular dish being added to the menu.”

Sniffing, she added: “Besides, what if the elves were to mistake some poor student’s toad for one?" Judging by their proclivity for cooking pumpkin-themed food they weren't necessarily functioning on optimal intelligence levels. "Add it to the larder, that sort of thing? Beastly sort of prospect.”

Frogs were adorable, after all. Really, if she had felt this tender towards human children, she might’ve almost flattered herself that she was the maternal sort -- as it was, however, she preferred Enoch’s tarantula to anything as troublesome as a baby. Silly noisy things, babies -- she only liked them when they weren't hers.

(Didn’t help that she was inevitably destined to have one with Vincenzo -- but she was trying to focus on the more enjoyable parts of the process rather than on its dismal aftermath.)

Still she shuddered a little.

“Why not expand on the dessert options, anyhow? Pumpkin is awfully boring."

She was always a pet, darling Pacifica (or Cissy, for she had never decided which of her two names she liked best, and liked to be called each in turn). Dainty and delicate and bright with lovely dark eyes, mischievous ways, and a few pettily mean habits that charmed rather than annoyed her family, Pacifica enjoyed a serene childhood. As a result of this fortuitous upbringing, Pacifica grew into quite a clever girl with intelligent tastes and ambitious inclinations -- if not always the best intentions. She always had a selfish streak and tendency to enjoy trouble.

And the high-spirited Pacifica has only gotten more troublesome over the years. Educated for a short time in Salem and now privately tutored, the restless Pacifica is waiting to go to Hogwarts in the following term.

Until then, she plans on spending her time  wisely. People need to be offended, clothes bought, and husbands found. Yes, yes -- precocious tyke, our darling Pacifica.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
”Play?”

Playing?

Pacifica hardly wanted to. She was tired today, and -- for all that she liked to get up to while on the ground -- had never been too thrilled by the idea of heights. She didn’t think that pint-sized broomsticks designed to only graze grass would change that opinion, either.

Much less a nasally little tot screeching after her company.

Suppressing several unkinder urges, the blonde sighed and let a smile melt over her mouth.

“Well,” said the older girl as she closed her book with one hand. “I’m not sure I’ll manage with a broom that small. Do you happen to have another?” She tilted her head, brown eyes shrewdly bright.

She doubted they did. Babies were entrusted only with tapeworm-long sticks for a reason, so with luck the brats would leave her alone and she could go back to her book.

(Children were much more interesting in books, anyway, she thought waspishly. She could hardly see that flesh improved their concept much.
