Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Benedict Tadhg Abercombie

Birthday: 31st December

Hometown: Galway, Ireland

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): 3rd (2nd)

Biography:
Ben was born precisely in the last moments of the year, to pure-blooded parents,
as their second child. He has an older sister, who attends Hogwarts as well as he does. His mother, Gaenor, is an owner of a private, wizarding clinique, where she works (she's a mediwitch), while his father, Bartholomew, works at the Department of International Relations, at Irish Ministry of Magic. The family never had any financial trouble, having well-established roots in Irish wizarding society.

At the age of 6, his magical abilities appeared for the first time. Since then, he has been showing a great talent for flying and Quidditch. His parents, both former Quidditch players (for Ravenclaw and Slytherin Quidditch teams), encourage this hobby of Ben's and have been taking him to various Quidditch matches.

Five years ago, Ben's sister went to Hogwarts for the first time and was sorted into Gryffindor. That, of course, was a very shocking and not entirely positive news for the Abercombie clan. Ben himself, unlike his parents, supported (and has still been supporting) his sister in front of the adamant views of their parents. Now, Ben is the one to get sorted. Even though he keeps claiming that he wouldn't mind being in any of the houses, he secretly hopes to join his sister in Gryffindor. However, his personality traits would hardly let that happen.

House Request: Slytherin, Ravenclaw

Personality:
Ben is certainly not a typical Slytherin. An intersection of all four houses, one could say, and it wouldn't be far from the truth. He is ambitious, intelligent and cunning of course, however, that doesn't prevent him from being a hopeless dreamer. He tends to get in trouble, even though he doesn't want to. He is an explorer and as such, he loves learning new things. He tends to be friendly, yet, can be (and often is) very competitive. Unlike many of his housemates, he doesn't have any problems with becoming friends with Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs, mainly due to his sister (who somehow happened to get into Gryffindor years ago). Yet, the ambitious, purposeful part of him is the most important one.

Usually, he's in a good mood. There are days when he's grumpy, overly sarcastic and snappy, however, those are in the least.

Appearance:
  • Ginger-brown, longer, slightly wavy hair with a fringe.
  • Grey-green eyes, narrow eyebrows, few lashes.
  • A little larger, rather protruding ears.
  • Pale, wrinkled skin, especially around the nose.
  • Usually wears uniform, however, doesn't pay too much attention to its actual form.
That means he often wears his tie instead of a headdress, aso.
  • Tends to wear casual pants and casual, usually black T-shirts.
  • His height is a few inches over the height of kids upon his age.

You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Ben was heading back to Slytherin Common room, whistling, as full of life as ever (even though more tired than average). He was dressed in his autumn Quidditch training gear, which consisted of black leather jacket, Slytherin sweater, black pants, high black boots, Slytherin scarf, fingerless leather gloves and flying goggles. He was holding his Nimbus in his more dexterous, left hand.

It was dark but after three years spent in Slytherin, he knew better than to be afraid. The most dangerous individual in the dungeons was he himself.

Abercombie wouldn't have stopped, if he hadn't heard someone saying something. He stopped walking instantly, as he frowned conspicuously and heard the girl out. Yet, he decided not to show up until he'd be sure who it was and what she wanted.
In the end, Ben understood that she meant no threat; quite the opposite. He was going to have a little fun, before he would direct the girl back to where she belonged.

He sneaked to her from behind, as quietly as possible. He waited until the right time would come and then... "BOO!" He exclaimed.

Hi Ben, welcome to the site!

Your application looks good so far, there's just one tiny thing we'll need you to change before we can get you accepted.

In your RP sample, you mention that Ben is carrying his Nimbus broomstick. According to the HP wiki, the Nimbus company wasn't formed until 1967. Currently, the year on our site is 1952, which means Nimbuses don't exist yet. If you could just edit out the reference to the Nimbus, that would great.

I also noticed that in your RP sample and Personality section, Ben is written as a Slytherin. Please note that while we try to give everybody their first choice of house, this is not always possible. You don't need to edit out your references to his assumed house in your application, but I just wanted you to be aware that we can't guarantee he will be Sorted into Slytherin.

Once you've made the required change, please repost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look. Thanks!
