→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Aiden Finnen Duncan

Birthday:February 15th, 1938

Hometown: Inverness countryside, Scotland

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two): Second, First (preferably Second)

Biography:

Aiden was born to William and Caedigh Duncan somewhere in the Inverness countryside. His mother left when he was very young, leaving him with a busy, overworked father who had a business and five other children to take care of as well. Because of this, for the most part, Aiden had taken to spending his days outside, running around and causing mischief since he could walk. As long as he was home before dark, his father didn’t really worry as he had one less thing to worry about.

He spent most of his life around Muggles and the Muggle world as his mother had really been the family’s only contact with the Wizarding world. However, Aiden still loved magic and was always eager watching his older siblings perform. For most of his life, he jealously watched as his older siblings Geillis and Jamie performed magic. It wasn’t until mid-January of his tenth year that Aiden suddenly began exhibiting magical powers as well. Having never dreamed of having magical powers and being able to witness the glory of the Wizarding world like his brother Jamie, Aiden was ecstatic when he actually received a letter from Hogwarts. It was a dream come true for Aiden and it was one of his goals to explore the strange, new magical world as fully as possible.

Aiden flourished during his first year at Hogwarts, greeting everyone he met with his signature cheerful grin and an enthusiastic welcome to match. He made friends with nearly everyone he met, no matter their house or background. Whether they were Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, young or older, rich or poor, didn’t matter to Aiden as he just loved meeting new people. Living in a mostly rural area, Aiden’s natural ability to make friends had been stifled somewhat, but being at Hogwarts with hundreds of people around his age allowed him to make more friends than he had ever dreamed of making.

While he made a lot of new friends, Aiden still made time for family. His brother Jamie and cousin Barclay both took precedence over anyone else when it really mattered. He spent many hours making sure his cousin felt included in the Duncan family and even took some boring classes with him to spend time with him. Despite playing as a beater for much of the Quidditch season, Aiden outright refused to even target his cousin during matches whenever they were on opposing teams.

Despite the ever-changing world surrounding him, Aiden managed to remain his happy-go-lucky self, hanging out with everyone and anyone who wanted his company. And through it all, he remained staunchly loyal to the Duncan clan.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Hufflepuff

Personality:

Aiden is very much an “all or nothing” individual. He wears his emotions on his sleeve and has trouble concealing his feelings. He is energetic, hyperactive, easily excitable and always willing to meet new people and have fun. He is quick to anger as well and will never back down from a fist-fight, especially if it is to protect a friend. However, he is also quick to forgive.

Aiden also has a short attention span. While he tends to quickly grasp concepts, he also just as easily forgets everything he’s learned the moment something more enticing comes along and grabs his attention. He does not enjoy sitting still, always moving onto something new and stimulating. It is very easy for him to become bored, so he enjoys coming up with different ideas and is always daydreaming. Similarly, his mind moves a mile a minute and he can cover a vast number of topics in a short amount of time.

Being the second-youngest in his family, Aiden tends to be the forgotten child. Because of this, he craves the attention that he is deprived of at home. He tends to act out and cause trouble to try and stand out among his brothers and sisters. At times, he will do anything to stand in the spotlight and just be noticed for once. Because of this, he tends to be very boastful and proud of anything that makes him even somewhat unique, like his magical powers or his family line that traces back to ancient Scottish royalty. He’s also a bit of a class clown, always making some sort of joke or comment, no matter what the situation.

Appearance:

Aiden is slightly short for his age at 4’6” and has a fairly small, slender build from spending all of his time running around. He has a smooth, rounded face with an equally rounded jaw. His cheeks are slightly plump and rosy. He has messy, shaggy, bright red hair that sits like a mop on his head. His eyes are light blue like his mother’s. His ears remain flat against his face.

He generally doesn’t care what he wears. He would wear his old, grass-stained, tattered trousers and an old shirt all the time if he could. His father generally makes him wear more presentable clothing though usually including a collared shirt and nice slacks held up by his one good suspenders.

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Aiden’s shoes slammed against the hard cobblestone floor as he made a mad dash for the wide open oaken doors. He had wolfed down his breakfast at a breakneck pace so that he could enjoy as much as possible of the warm and sunny summer day. He took one step outside and stopped, inhaling the sweet and crisp summer air deeply and savoring every moment. It was a great day to just run around, stretch his legs, and have a little fun after being holed up in a dark, depressing and boring classroom for weeks on end.

As he stood at the top of the stairs, allowing his eyes to adjust to the blinding sunlight, he heard a soft squeaking sound coming from beneath him. He looked down just in time to see a rat scurrying for dear life and zipping down the steps to freedom.

“Yer tired of bein’ all cooped up too, aren’t ya, bud?” Aiden said, as though the retreating, little creature could understand him. He shrugged, not thinking much of the rat, who seemed to want some freedom as badly as he did. He just cared about playing today.

Before Aiden could run off and begin sprinting around the grounds, an older boy flew past him and thundered down the steps, seemingly running after the rat that had just squeaked past him. Aiden had to almost jump out of the way of the older boy that barreled past him. He watched the boy run off into the flowers, desperately searching for his rat, for a moment with a bemused expression. After a few seconds of watching from the steps, however, Aiden became bored and decided to help him catch the rat after watching his pitiful display, ambling hopelessly through the flowers.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He heard the boy shouting frantically as he ripped apart the garden. It looked like a lot of fun to Aiden, making a mess of everything and trampling all the girly flowers. He couldn’t help but watch and stare with a smirk on his face for a bit longer, just to see if the boy would even notice him. Finally, the other boy stood up and looked at Aiden as though he were the most disgusting being on earth.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

“S’not all that polite to be goin’ about wiping yer bogies on yerself either,” Aiden said with a playful grin on his face.

As he said that, Aiden wiped his own nose on his sleeve noisily, cheekily staring the other boy in the eye and almost daring him to say something about it as he made a big show of it all. He didn’t much care what some guy looking through flowers for his rat thought about him and his rudeness. His “Pa” had always taught him to just be himself and not try to change himself for anyone. Still, Aiden wasn’t heartless. Now that he’d had his fun, he planned on helping this poor boy reunite with his clearly reluctant rat.

“Look, d’ya want me help finding that rat o’ yers or not?” Aiden asked, somewhat gruffly. “Ah dunneh mind gettin’ all dirty an’ stuff.”

As Aiden spoke, he saw something moving around in the dirt out of the corner of his eye. He saw a bit of a long, thin and hairless tail almost scurrying out of sight. Without saying a word to warn the other boy about what he was going to do, he immediately dove into the dirt and grabbed at the rat that was desperately fleeing the scene. His hand caught on something soft and furry and he clamped down on the wriggling mass, making sure the rat was securely between his fingers before pushing himself back up. His clothes were completely covered in dirt and torn pieces of flowers, but Aiden was fine with that. He wasn’t the one who would have to do the laundry, after all.

He gave another cheeky grin as he presented the tiny animal to the boy in front of him, “Ah believe this is yours.”
