CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Germander Silas Freeman. “Freeman or ‘Mander is fine with me.”
Gender: Male.
Age: 22.
Blood Status: Pureblood.

Education:
“Until I took to Hogwarts, I went through private tutoring thanks to my auntie and unk. They liked me as a Slytherin in Hoggieland. I was an average student, scoring well enough to earn an apprenticeship in potioneering. In particular, I have an affinity for knowing my ingredients and keeping the books straight. I should be working to become a shopkeep, I s’pose, but I’ve got a travel itch. I don’t want to get stuck in England where there’s a whole world of ingredients to learn about.”

Residence:
“It’s a charming - read: small - flat in London. The bricks give way to a one room joint. Got a small kitchen in one corner, a bucket in the other for my personal business. I’m joshing you, mate, don’t look so appalled - I’ve got a bathroom attachment down the hall with some other lads. They’re a rowdy bunch that like to party. My bed’s soft and my own. I’m trying to make a point to my uncle that I can handle myself before I tap into my trust fund. It’s a wager and a tradition in my family. Though this is a bit scandalous to chat about, I’ll admit I’ve half a mind to give that the monies to my little sister though, she’ll need it more than I will if she keeps turning down the marriage offers. What do you mean by ‘showing off?’ I’ve always been a charitable soul.”

Occupation:
“Four years into my six year apprenticeship program in potioneering. As if that weren’t enough work on its own - since it makes no money and requires money - I work part-time helping out with gardens, landscaping, and plant management. That’s mostly for purebloods that are referred by my family. I was hoping the little alchemist shop on the corner would want some extra help… but I haven’t had time to drop a curriculum vitae with the shopkeep yet. Who has the time?”

Do you plan to have a connection to a particular existing place (for example: the Ministry, Shrieking Shack) or to take over an existing shop in need of new management?
Nope! Not unless there’s one someone would recommend to me.

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Much to his young mother’s dismay, Germander was always a dirty child. She had him perilously close after her marriage, enough to cut a page in the gossip rags, speculating as to when she’d become pregnant and if this had been during her last school term. Regardless, her husband’s name tidied up her reputation. His dad was busy with ministry work - he would never say what, but he went to many countries. To ensure Germander had consistent schooling and didn't suffer through the constant moving, he was sent to live with his aunt and uncle and numerous female cousins. His uncle was the eldest of the Freemans.

They’re a close family with a great sense of humor under the supervision of Grandpappy and Grandmummy Freeman at the Freeman family manor in London. It’s a shame that Germander is the only male of his generation. The family was blessed with females despite everyone’s best efforts. While interested in Germander’s upbringing and sharing vacations with him, his parents were largely nomadic and realized this would provide hardships for their clandestine mission and potentially Germ’s growth. They rarely stayed at the manor, stopping only to deposit his little sister with him and their growing extended family during his mother’s pregnancy. There’s some resentment that he could’ve learned far more having traveled with them growing up, but Germander tries his best to not take his aunt and uncle for granted for all that they’ve done to raise him.

Fistfuls of dirt, squished between toes as a toddler, Germander always loved being outdoors. A cheerful, social child, he was a delight to be around and had many friends. In his spare time, he could often be found following his aunt’s gardener around. Years of sponging his plant knowledge as an unwanted understudy, Germander realized that he enjoyed tending to the plants - magical or not. But he had to work hard to learn how to prune and keep plants. The hobby required many hours to lay down the fertile foundation of his competence. Unlike his intuitive knowledge of potions, which seemed to come as easily as breathing when he was accepted into Hogwarts. He could follow a recipe without mistake, though deviating from recipes often result in disaster. The quality of his potions are notable only because of his extensive knowledge in the ingredients rather than the method.

His magic, on the whole, is average. He enjoys comics and the gentlemen's club. As for sports, he dabbled a bit in quidditch, but nothing to earn a place on his house’s team. When he graduated, he realized that he hadn’t the faintest as to what he wanted to accomplish with his life aside from travel. He wasn’t ready to be done with school and looked to continue his learning. His father hoped he’d become a ministry man, but his uncle was an advocate for his pursuing plants, especially after having profited from his nephew’s private greenhouse collection.

His latest project is subaqueous gardening, hoping to secure fresh gillyweed for his bucket list travels to Australia and the Great Barrier Reef. On the sly, he maintains some illicit greenery as a sort of latent cash cow. He has a permit for most of his growth at the manor with the Ministry of Magic.

Roleplay:

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:
He’d been a fool to not try to leave sooner. His apprenticeship required that he make himself available at the oddest hours for his brewing potions, but nothing accounted for his sleeping in. He’d thrown on a heavy spray of cologne to make up for the fact that he hadn’t got a chance to brush his teeth or do much more than swipe the sleep from his eyes. His heart was pounding with anxiety. If he didn’t get to his cauldron soon, it’d go sour and he’d have to start the darned thing over. That was seven weeks that he couldn’t afford for a do over.

“Honestly, it’s how this rotten program profits,” he murmured heatedly. Without coffee, he was cantankerous. The crowd jostled him, but he was a testament to his father’s build. None could budge him or slow his step. A cry for help caught his attention though. Unable to ignore it, he slowed to a halt as he peered around to see who’d called out.

He found a lady on her knees on the ground. The witches and wizards around them were like a school of fish, darting around her buckled form. He was like a sympathetic stone, standing in a river of too-busy blight. Checking the time, he wavered with indecision and then squatted down, his apprenticeship robes collecting between and around his legs. Bugger it all. The potion could wait.

“Your heel broken or the shoe, mum?” He asked over the din, making his way near her. Germander didn’t want to offer to help her up if her heel was broken, instead he’d apparate her to the hospital. Her face wasn't etched with pain, instead it was distress from having lost a shoe.

Recognition lit his eyes as he came even on her face, purpose momentarily forgotten, “Say, you’re that frog lady, aren’t you? Nice job with the article. Particularly enjoyed your bit about invasive species.”

His distracted eyes skimmed the crowd for a moment as he knelt near her, “I think a quick summoning will do the trick.” Pulling out his wand, he glanced at her bedecked heel for reference and with a quick cast, silently summoned for the heel to make its way through the throngs.
