→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: William Petar Mihovil

Birthday: March 6

Hometown: Chesapeake, VA

Bloodline:
 Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): 3rd or 2nd

Biography:
”Daddy, do you HAVE to go again?  Why can’t you stay and play baseball with me and David! We miss you all the time, and we worry that you might not make it back! Why do you have to go so much!  And why did you choose a career that keeps you away from us and mommy all the time! I HATE it!”

So was the life of being the eldest son of a career naval officer.  It seemed to William the minute his dad actually was back from a six-month deployment, he was around for a couple days before he had to go on yet another deployment.  Between that and the moving all the time, William wished on more than one occasion that his dad had actually chosen a career that kept him at home longer and was far safer.  Say like a lawyer, accountant, or doctor, or engineer or something.  But no, of course not, William had been born into a military family, a family that never stayed long in one place.

Actually the longest he had stayed anywhere was four years, so far, and that was in Virginia. And though the adventurous side of him loved seeing all those different places, he hated the fact he never felt like he belonged anywhere. His only constant friend was his younger brother David, who was four years William’s junior, his two dogs and one cat, and his stern mother Margaret.  And that was sad.

It seemed the minute he actually managed to allow himself to open up enough to a person or two that made them his friends, he was uprooted and had to start all over, again. He hated this lifestyle and resented his dad for choosing it.  And he made sure that everyone knew it too at home with outbursts, acting out, and running away, only to come back a couple of hours later.  William wished on a daily basis he had been born to a family with more stable roots than this.  He often felt like a vagabond wanderer because he never ended up staying in one place for long.  His mother was incredibly stern and strict, as was his dad when he WAS around, and he hated that. They gave him little freedom it seemed at times, though he had no earthly clue why. They always had incredibly high expectations of him and his brother, and growing up nothing less than As and Bs in school would suffice. Too many Bs even were frowned upon tremendously by his parents. They made sure that him and his brother understood the importance of academics and schooling.

William’s father had come from a poor cool mining family in Pennsylvania that immigrated just before WWI from Yugoslavia and they did everything they could to better their lifestyle via schooling. William’s father Petar Nikola worked his tail off in school and as a baseball player that led him to becoming a graduate of the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and now a commanding officer of a ship, and a Commander in the navy.  It was not an easy road to pursue or follow and for a long time his wife Margaret and him were quite poor. But all the hard work, sweat, hard work, and what not had paid off.

William’s mother, Margaret is the youngest daughter of an American Ministry of Magic Auror.  They lived among muggles in the Baltimore area and found ways to get their daughters invited to the Naval Academy social gatherings so that they might wed their way into influence in the muggle world without giving away the fact that they were witches and wizards.  They believed firmly that witches and wizards should not only exert influence in the magical world but also the muggle one as well, because in their minds witches and wizards were born to be leaders of both worlds.  That was where Margaret met William’s father, Petar and fell in love. Even though Margaret was a woman, her family firmly believed that a well-rounded woman included not only expertise in homemaking, but also academia, and they pushed her hard as well.  They believed this because, though the men were seen as the breadwinners for the family, women in case of a horrible tragedy or something was left widowed, she needed to be able to take care of herself and their family, and that meant education was key. His mother, being an officer’s wife is an incredible socialize, and loves to throw parties for other officer’s wives, their families, and to show appreciation even to the enlisted men on her husband’s ships.

In his 13 years, William has moved 7 times already.  They have lived in many places.  These include: Charleston, South Carolina; San Diego, California; Jacksonville, Florida; Newport, Rhode Island; and most recently Chesapeake, Virginia.  William, outside of school enjoys baseball, soccer, comic books, reading, sailing, fishing, and learning more about the magical world in general. He knows far more about the muggle world than the magical one, as that is the world his family functions predominantly in, but he is fascinated with the magical one that has managed to keep itself hidden from the nonmagical world one.  He pretty much has learned what he has about the magical one from his maternal grandparents who completely envelop him in it when he visits them.  He has no earthly clue what he wants to do when he graduates from school, except that he doesn’t want to be in the navy like his dad. Whenever he moves, he often attends the local public muggle schools at first, but ends up in a private school rather quickly, often within the first couple of months because of his attitude regarding other kids, his aloofness and distance, and that his parents simply don’t think the local school is challenging their son enough.  Consequently, he needs a far more rigorous curriculum.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

Society Request: Surprise me

Personality: William is incredibly curious about the worlds (magical and nonmagical) around him, and loves adventures.  However, he is incredibly quiet, withdrawn, and shy for the most part.  He has very few friends because in his mind why even bother when he knows that he’ll be forced to move again soon and start all over again. He is protective over his younger brother,David, his pets, and loves to play baseball, soccer, and is slowly beginning to gain a fondness for wizarding sports too.  He is a hard worker because he doesn’t want a lot of grief from his parents regarding academics.  However, he is very rebellious when it comes to anything else regarding his parents.  His dad wants William to follow in his footsteps, but William has no desire to do so.  Rather than be in charge of a ship, William is more interested in the hows of developing such majestic machines than wanting to run them himself.

William loves his comic books, reading, and most sports.  He’s fiercely competitive when involved in any of the sports, and he is one that is not very open to most people.  His greatest flaw is that he is rather aloof and cold to most people simply because he doesn’t see the point of making friends when he is forced to move all the time.  He does love to travel, fish, swim, sail, and hunt, but he often lacks the patience to be successful in hunting and fishing, though he does try.  He loves the outdoors, and reading, but when pushed too much by someone, he will act out as is seen regarding his parents at home beyond academics.  He is studious, but overly curious at times and not one that necessarily thinks before he acts.

Appearance:

William has messy, dark brown hair, and blue eyes.  His hair is a bit longer than most boys in that it goes just below his ears and curves outwardly at the ends.  He is about medium in height, and average in build.  He prefers to wear darker colors than lighter ones and because he is rather easily distracted at things in the world around him, he is often caught oblivious to things like rocks and uneven steps and often ends up falling down and ends up with a nice hole in his pants, shorts, or jeans.  He is most often seen wearing dark collared shirts with jeans and dark tennis shoes and always carries a baseball mitt and baseball with him as baseball is his most favorite sport to date, followed closely by soccer.  There is never any shortage of comic books with him either.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Please reply to the Sample Roleplay below.

Partner projects and William went together as well as oil and water.  He hated having to rely on anyone but himself or his brother because you were far more likely to get a dismal grade when forced to rely on anyone but yourself or someone you could really trust (his brother)and his parents gave him hell about any less than perfect grades.  Or so at least it seemed that way.

It also didn’t help that William was a horrid introvert and never understood why he couldn’t just do a stupid project all by himself.  Who needed others, really?  It wasn’t like he was going to be able to foster any meaningful relationships after all with as much as he was uprooted, so why even bother?  He grumbled at the very thought of being forced to rely on someone else to do his or her part on a project.

“And why would I agree to that?  How do I know you will even put a decent amount of effort in the silly thing, and the last thing I need is to receive more hell from my parents.”

He eyed at his partner coldly.

“No way.  I am NOT about to sacrifice my grade so that someone I don’t even know can get all the glory or on the opposite end of things, cause me to fail miserably.”

And that was that.  There was no way William was going to leave his damn fate up to a complete stranger!

And with that he perused the books as well.

“Let’s just get this stupid thing done as quickly as possible because there is no telling how long it will be before I am uprooted yet again.”

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Kynan Johnathan O'Conner.

Gender: Male

Age: October 20, 1859 so that makes him 71.

Education:
Up until age 11, Kynan was educated at home by tutors in history, sciences, math, writing, reading, Irish Gaelic, Latin, English, German, and the Humanities.  The magical part of his education was overseen by his grandmother, mother, and father that included much study in potions, herbology, defensive magic, transfiguration, charms, and summoning/conjuring.  When he was 11, he received an invitation to Hogwarts and after much debate ended up in Ravenclaw rather than Slytherin.  During his years at Hogwarts, he was named a Prefect and played Quidditch as a Beater and Dueled.  When he graduated, at age 18, in 1877, he relied on family connections to get him opportunities to study Summoning/Conjuring, History of Magic, and Politics abroad in Germany, Ireland, England, and the United States for ten years total.  He received this education by working as an apprentice Magical Historian, and a variety of various internships and ‘grunge’ jobs in the various Ministry of Magics.

Thanks!

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
”Family,  family honor, ambition, and influence are everything and don’t you forget that Mr. O’Conner.  Without family, honor, and influence, you are nothing more than an insignificant ant in this world, easily forgotten and destroyed by the smallest of incidents. And I know you don’t want that to happen, and be the downfall of your family, correct?”

To this day, those words of Kynan’s great grandfather Christian and his tutor Mr. Joachim still stuck with him.  He had arranged his whole life choices based on those guidelines and he had to admit, though as a child he didn’t believe a lick of that, as he progressed through life, those words never rang more true.  You couldn’t count on anyone besides family for anything. If your family had no honor, you had no influence on the world, and without ambition you had nothing to strive for. Yes, perhaps he had been rather cutthroat at times as he rose to power, but you would not find someone more dedicated to his family, wife, and children than Kynan Johnathan O’Conner.

Yes his rise to power through the years was not simply because of hard work and desire.  He was definitely not beyond agreeing to a few shady deals if it meant his family would achieve more influence, and still keep their honor in the public arena.  Sure there was a fair amount of hard work along the way, studying, and being forced to do menial job suited to the lowliest of muggles and mudbloods at times, but the fact remained, pair that with the shady deals he cut along the way, and it worked.

Though in the public and political arena, he was never shy about voicing opinions, regardless of what others might say and extremely cutthroat, he was an entirely different man when at home and around his family.  No matter how tired or worn out he had been, he had always made time for his child and son, Conan.  He taught his son at an early age the same lessons Kynan had been taught, family, family honor, ambition, honor, and influence were everything in this world, muggles were horridly barbaric creatures that wouldn’t give a second thought to killing those that were different than them, as was proven in the O’Conner historical archives, and that mudbloods couldn’t be trusted either because they were from that barbaric muggle society.  He also dwelled into his son that history had to be preserved, valued, and documented so that those with any sort of sense would not make the same stupid mistakes twice. Kynan made sure his son received the best tutors, played logic games with him often, and taught him magic personally.  Some of that magic was not always deemed kosher at the time of course, but knowledge was key when it came to maintaining or gaining further influence in the world, paired with ambition of course.

As for his wife, Shannon Colleen Brennan, he was fiercely devoted to her.  He made sure to spoil her often, be there for her when she needed it, and even went as far as to curb his vocal attacks on muggles and muggleborns since she came from a respected pureblooded family, but one with a little more progressive views on things.  He never tried to force Shannon to agree with him, and whatever he did in his life, he made sure it would benefit her, his son, and the family as a whole.

Kynan graduated in 1877 from Hogwarts.  There he had been sorted into Ravenclaw and he played Quidditch and Dueled.  He was a Prefect, but he had few friends because Kynan simply didn’t trust many people.  He still fiercely believed then, and still does, that the only people you truly can trust are family, so he made it a point to have many acquaintances but very few ‘friends.’  He is and was not beyond discarding someone the  minute he believed their usefulness had been used up.

After he graduated, his family called on connections in the countries of Germany, Ireland, England, and the United States to further his education rather than send him to college because, in their eyes, at the time, the best education was in a real world setting, not an institution of learning.  He did this for ten years with concentrations on summoning/conjuring, politics, and history of magic. In those ten years he received his education through an apprentice Magical History Archivist, and being personal assistants, an intern, and doing other ’menial jobs’ for influential politicians. Eventually he settled on a job as a Senior Diplomat for Britain’s Ministry of Magic, and sat on several important committees throughout his political career of 40 years.

When he retired from all that at age 68, he took to becoming a part-time well-known, Magical History Archivist, and a Wizengamot member for the O’Conner Don family. He still lavishes praise, luxuries, and love on his ailing wife and is a common visitor to younger generations of O’Conner Dons.

Currently, he is also in the process of beginning to train the next O’Conner Don family head, Conan, who just happens to be his son so that his son can continue the legacy that is the O’Conner Don family.

Roleplay: (If you are requesting Exceptional levels - above 32 total - please respond to the roleplay and questions here instead)
Reply as your character to the following:

It was impossible for Dianne to stay out of trouble. It wasn't that she was looking for trouble, it's just that trouble always managed to find her. Today she wished she could find something equally familiar but more comforting.

The five-year old girl hugged her puffskein closer to her and brushed her face in its soft fur for comfort. She had named him herself and he was always her special pet. No she was certain she had never gone down this side street before. Her anxiety increased every second as darkness fell as she walked down the road. A loud noise came to her left and she buried her face in her pet's fur completely. The scared girl bolted the opposite way slamming the both of them into the wall of the nearest building. Tottering back a few steps she found a door a few feet to her right and ran to open it. What light there was inside spilled out into the darkness and she spilled into the room.

Once in, she was caught between the impulse to curl her cloak up more tightly around her and loosen her grip on it. She wasn't alone anymore but she was now among strangers instead, which was nearly as terrifying. Her puffskein had recovered from the shock of the wall and now was purring contentedly as the girl hugged it, causing a mildly calming effect on the girl. Gathering her courage, she marched up to the nearest person, pulled on the nearest clothing hem and blurted out in a loud voice:

"I'm lost and it's dark and I wanted to know where I am but I'm not scared but I am worried that Sambundeakin is scared because he's little and needs something to eat and wants to go home."

She paused to draw a breath in her nearly never-ending sentence, "He misses my and his mommy."

To explain the scared girl held up the custard-colored puffskein. Sambundeakin the puffskein, however simply purred as if nothing on earth was wrong in the world.

Roleplay Response:
Merlin, why couldn’t modern families these days keep reigns on their children?  It was an absurd notion to let children wander aimlessly about without any supervision, especially with the plethora of mudbloods that had polluted the wizarding world! Didn’t these parents care about tainting their bloodlines at all?   Sheesh, no wonder the world was going to hell in a handbasket.  It was all these absurd progressive notions that mudbloods were equal and just as trustworthy as purebloods.  Kynan shook his head in dismay, as an especially rambunctious child bumped into him while he was getting his navy blue dress robes tailored for an upcoming fundraiser.

He sneered at what he assumed was a young woman that was in charge of the kid (they both had incredibly dark, curly, black hair and no one else in the immediate vicinity seemed to match that).  His sneer even grew more severe when he thought he saw the muggleborn badge on the woman’s jacket and upon further scrutiny, the kid looked to have it too.  But it could simply be his aging eyes playing tricks on him.  regardless, he was NOT amused..

“Typical mudbloods,” he muttered under his breath just so his sweet wife who was there at the moment too, on one of her better days didn’t hear him.  He had made a promise to not mention it around her, and when he made a promise to a family member, Kynan NEVER broke it, especially when it was his wife.
Instead he simply shook his head in dismay and smiled brightly at his wife who looked absolutely radiant in the royal purple dress she had chosen to try on at the moment.  And then all was right with the world.  Though his kind, sweet, caring, devoted wife was ailing, seeing her melted nearly any animosity Kynan might have been feeling at the moment.  He had no idea how he would live without her when the sweet Lord called her home permanently, but Kynan vowed to survive and thrive, at least until he was comfortable with his son taking charge of the family head duties.

Just then, yet another unsupervised kid, this one a little girl that clutched on a puffskein,  appeared and yanked on the hem of the dress robes he was being fitted for and rambled incessantly about being scared and someone or something called Sambundeakin, which actually turned out to be the custard-colored puffskein.  Sweet Mary, Mother of God, what was WITH these parents nowadays!  If his child ever ran off, even a great great grandchild child, well let’s just say he’d make sure the kid never forgot it with a punishment that was not ever going to be forgotten. He massaged his wrinkled forehead in dismay and frustration. He was NOT in the mood to deal with any more childish nonsense, and he shot a pleading glance to his ever patient wife to deal with the situation. She was far better at these child issues than he was.  Granted, had it been a family member’s child, he would have probably helped, but he would definitely offer a stern talking to the parent and dish a punishment at the child who had meandered away.

In reply to the girl’s pleas, Kynan said coolly.
“I’m a bit busy right now.  You see the lady over there, in the purple?  She’s my wife, she might have something to give Sambundeakin to eat. She’s almost done and she can help you find your mommy.”

Just curious as to what levels Irene O'Conner should get since I am in the process of getting an application for her.  She was a professor for a couple of terms and was wondering if I can keep those levels or if I have to follow the guidelines for shopkeepers/members at the Elsewhere Board. Please let me know so I can apply and get rping with her some again :)

Thanks!

    Magical Weakness (pick one):
    Divination

    Biography:

John Caleb O’Conner is the first child of Johnathan Vladimir O’Conner and Chastity von Diedrik.  Johnathan, called John for short was born on August 19, 1962 in the middle of the night.  His father is the owner and head partner of a well-known, prosperous, expensive law firm that tailors to the needs of the elite and powerful pureblood families of Russia, Scotland, Ireland, and Britain.  John’s mother, Chastity, has Healer training. She and her husband, Johnathan were high school sweethearts and even after four children and another on the way are still madly in love and would do anything for the other.  John’s father is calculating, a master strategist, sneaky, extremely charismatic and persuasive, very traditional in his beliefs and thoughts, a pureblood elitist just like all the O’Conner (Dons) are, strict, and shows little emotion except when it comes to his wife and family.  John’s mother is traditional in her beliefs and thoughts, but also more emotional than her husband.  She likes helping people, but focuses her attention on raising her children correctly and being the ideal wife, hostess, and mother.

Due to the fact that the O’Conner (Don) family firmly abide by the old saying “Blood is Thicker Than Water” rarely is there a time that goes by that John, Nadine, Brody, and Chastity are not surrounded by family or spending time in another country with relatives.  John and his brothers and sisters always spend at least some time in Hogsmeade, Germany, Moscow, and Connacht each year.  The O’Conner family is well-known as some of the most prideful folk out there and heavily involved and influential in politics.  They have connections to the order that are now in charge of the government and have always been outspoken about how there are too many relegations regarding the use of magic.  They are excited about the new leaders in the government and made many monetary contributions to them even before they gained power.

John and his siblings always received education by either relatives or by crusty old Frau Zeitzev and Herr Eberhard who actually have distant ties to the O’Conner (Don) family tree and of course pureblooded themselves wherever they are at any time.  John and his siblings receive instruction in History, Writing, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Magic, French, Gaelic, German, Russian, and the Arts including music. During his free time, John likes to be outside, play Quidditch, play wizarding chess, and sketch animals and nature scenes.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    Personality:

John loves animals just like his grandfather Conan who was for quite some time the Head of the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures department before retiring, running, and opening a rescue center for magical creatures.  John has spent a fair amount of time helping out in his father’s law firm. John is typically very quiet and hides his emotions. He firmly believes blood is thicker than water and wants to make his family proud.  He is fiercely protective of his siblings, especially Nadine who is closest in age to him.  John isn’t very vocal but because of his upbringing, he is a firm advocate of purebloods being superior and relegating halfbloods and muggleborns to lower paying and ranking jobs.  Also, he is an advocate of the end of the censorship of magic.

However, unlike his father, he is pretty introverted.  Truthfully he isn’t interested in law like his father expects him to be.  He much rather follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and do something with animals than get involved with law.  However, because he doesn’t want to disappoint his father, he at least feigns some interest in his father’s work (and does a good job of it too!).  John would do anything to make his family proud.  Overall, John is an intelligent boy who likes strategy games and animals.  He isn’t cruel by any means, but much prefers being around animals and his family than anyone else.  He would do anything, including illegal things if it meant it would make his family proud or safe.

    Appearance:
John isn’t very tall yet, but isn’t short either.  John is about average height for his age and has piercing blue eyes and light brown hair.  His hair is unkempt much of the time because he likes playing outside so much.  He is rarely seen without his cat Tabitha trotting lovingly and adoringly behind him.  John prefers wizarding robes and dress to muggle style of clothing, but when he is outside playing, he will throw on a green t-shirt, sneakers, and jeans for ease of movement. He has a small brown, leather, knapsack he keeps draped across his shoulder at all times that has his sketches and art supplies as well as the most recent O’Conner(Don)family wizarding photo.

    SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
You come across one of these three posts on the site. Please reply to one only as your character would.
*** Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not James' or Astrid's.

    Option II:

    “Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewee – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always soelusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something, they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn’t her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She had to come back with quotes.
Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

    Sample Roleplay Response:

John was not a people person like his father or mother.  Not by a long shot. It drove his father nuts that John himself was so introverted.  Where did he go wrong was often a question posed to little John.  He just didn’t understand and honestly even John himself was often perplexed.  John was far more like his grandfather who had left the International Magical Cooperation Department of the British Ministry of Magic to the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures Department. He felt more comfortable around animals than people for the most part and would do anything to help them.  The only people he felt at ease around were family members.  They understood him for the most part, except for perhaps his father. But even around him, John felt more comfortable than being around people he didn’t know very well.

He sighed as he dug his face into the fur of sweet, gentle, Tabitha as he was flagged down by some girl asking him some ridiculous question about frog legs. The girl’s singsong and light had no impact on John.  He just wanted to be left alone. He had too much work to do.

He scowled slightly at the girl and said coolly, but not necessarily rudely.

“And whether or not serving frog legs at lunch is news how? Please, leave me alone. Ask someone who actually cares about such trivial things and not me.  I need to go get my work done. Bye.”

And with that he raced back to his common room.  Why did people bother him when he obviously didn’t want to be bothered? It couldn’t be that hard to find someone who DID care about such stupid things in a school as big as Hogwarts.

Due to the fact that their Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Wilhelm in Bulgaria have more progressive views regarding muggles and muggleborns, their father keeps them from visiting her, her husband, and their children at all costs, afraid their lunacy might rub off on his own children.

Amity Addison

Special Phrase:Tibbles Beard of Power

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Johnathan Caleb O’Conner is the first child of Johnathan Vladmir O’Conner and Arienna Meccoyannis.

Johnathan, Jr’s father is the owner and head partner of a well-known and yes, expensive law firm that tailors to the needs of pureblood, wealthy, wizarding families.  That means he provides defense to those that need it and are willing to pay for the best defense out there.  This means members of this law firm deal with any and everything from--dark magic accusation defense to wills to family law, to criminal charges, and even some juvenile law (though that is another partner’s specialty, not Johnathan’s father’s). Johnathan Jr’s mother has Healer training and even was the Head Nurse at Hogwarts while his Aunt Irene was teaching at Hogwarts.  This all was before Johnathan himself was born.  Now his mother stays at home mostly.  His mother went to Hogwarts and was a Hufflepuff but his dad went to Durmstrang.

His father is a very proud man and most definitely a pureblood elitist.  Then again, the whole O’Conner (Don) family is except for crazy, old Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Wilhelm. Johnathan’s mother is a nurturing woman in general who likes to help people.

Johnathan Jr’s father says his Aunt Liz must have been dropped on the head one too many times as a baby to even consider that muggleborns and half-bloods should be treated the same as purebloods.  That’s why Johnathan and his sister Nadine never see her and her family way off in Bulgaria. However, their father doesn’t forbid them to write to her or receive letters from her—that is as long as he can read them first and take out any foolishness in them before influencing young, malleable minds.

For the O’Conner(Don)clan, remaining in touch with the family’s long history and its members is a must.  The only exception to that rule is of course crazy Aunt Liz who was almost disowned completely for her views.  However, her parents never completely disowned Aunt Liz because even though to them Liz is nuts, she is still their daughter and at least married into a well-respected old Bulgarian pureblooded wizarding family, so because of that choice she, consequently is still part of the tree.  Just very few members actually communicate with her.

Due to the fact that the O’Conner clan is a very proud bunch who firmly believes blood is thicker than water, Johnathan Jr. and his sister Nadine are bounced all around to various family members. Each of their years are divided into three distinct parts-Summer, they are in Connacht with their paternal grandparents and a slew of other relatives that range in age from not even one to 101, Fall & Winter is spent outside of Hogsmeade with just their parents, though grandparents on both side do come to visit during that time too as well as a ton of other aunts, uncles, great uncles, great aunts, cousins galore, but in general it is just him, Nadine, their parents, the nanny Fraulein Werner and their tutors Herr Eberhard and mean, old Frau Zeitzev who all have distant ties to the O’Conner family tree and are of course pureblooded themselves. And then, finally, during the springtime Johnathan Jr. and his sister Nadine go off to visit Aunt Irene and Great Aunt Charlene and Uncle Gavrie outside of Moscow.  Regardless of where they are at any given moment, each and every day Johnathan and his sister receive schooling of some sort for five hours a day, be it with relatives or their private tutors.

Because the O’Conner clan is so rooted in tradition, its members are some of the most rigid and prideful folk out there.  They relish in letting other families know of their superiority and how they have royal blood in them (never mind that the royalty they are talking about dates all the way back to Conchobhar, King of Connacht who died in 970 and to the last two kings of Ireland who both died in the 1100s. The O’Conner(Don)clan is heavily involved in politics and influential, but to say that its members have open minds would be a serious lie. In general, the O’Conner (Don) clan members tolerate the existence of muggles and muggleborns only because they have to, to remain influential.  No one would ever dare date or befriend one and most members are activists for those groups that call for a distinct class system where purebloods are the superior ones and leaders, half bloods can work in white collar jobs and may hold a few lower level leadership roles, but aren’t treated as well as purebloods, muggleborns are relegated to blue collar, working class and some trade jobs, and muggles aren’t even worth an aounc eof their concern and should just be ignored completely.  Many of its members also are advocates of the end to the censorship of magic.

Johnathan, Jr. and his sister Nadine are no exception to the belief that anyone not pureblooded are inferior.  They have been brought up to think they are far better than almost anyone.  Of the two, Johnathan is probably less vocal about that, but that mentality is most definitely still there.  He is very protective of his little sister Nadine and will do whatever is necessary to teach someone a serious lesson that ever does anything to hurt her emotionally or physically.  He wants to make his family proud and will do whatever is necessary to achieve that.

In general, Johnathan Caleb O’Conner is extremely prideful, but at the same time is polite.  That is unless someone tries to hurt his sister, his kitten Tabitha or anyone in his family. Then all bets are off.  Johnathan is pretty quiet most of the time. That is unless someone brings up the idea that all people, regardless of lineage are equal and should be judged on their accomplishments and not bloodlines.  Johnathan likes to read, wizarding chess, animals, magical history, summoning/conjuring, charms, and Quidditch.  Johnathan is loyal to his family and would do anything they asked him to do, regardless of the repercussions that may come with it and wants to do nothing more than make them proud.

His greatest weakness is perhaps that he would do whatever someone in his family asked him to do, even if it was perhaps illegal, just to please them and make them proud.  Johnathan is sarcastic a lot of the time, just like his Aunt Irene was growing up, but at the same time, incredibly dedicated to protecting his family, especially his sister.  Johnathan doesn’t make friends easily and even those that he eventually does consider friends, he sees them as discardable if by being friendly with them would bring dishonor to his family or if he ever questions their own motives.  Most people he meets never get beyond the acquaintance stage and he is fine with that.

When it comes to animals, Johnathan Jr. has a major soft spot for them. He is more comfortable around them than most people (except his family of course!) and would go out of his way to help an injured, homeless, hungry, etc. one no matter what.  It is funny how incredibly caring, nurturing, and protective he is of animals and his family, but when it comes to people that are not kin, he could care less. He appears rather cold and emotionless around non kin people, but when it comes to kin and animals, it is a completely different story and one sees a completely different side of him.  Johnathan doesn’t know why that is the case, but it is. Contrary to what people might think, he really does have a decent soul.  Just with all the programming and the way he has been raised by family members, it is buried deep below hundreds, maybe even thousands of layers.

Johnathan and his sister Nadine had been dragged here by their parents.  There was a huge wedding about to take place regarding some distant kin, and as always, Johnathan’s parents wanted to make sure that every one of them was dressed to impress.  Hence, the thousandth trip at least to Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions in Diagon Alley for new dress robes this warm spring day. Johnathan hated getting measured and being dragged to yet another robes fitting.  He much rather have stayed home on his parent’s manor outside of Hogsmeade, played with his tabby kitty Tabitha, go swimming in their lake, and do what boys do—explore outside, play Quidditch, etc.  But nope, here he was at the robes shop yet again waiting. It was even nearly dark by now after all the stops they had made getting this or that for the weeding in Connacht next week.

“Dad, do I really have to get fitted for yet another set of dress robes?  I’ve got at least a dozen at home already!”

“Now, now Johnathan, you know the answer to that question already. Stop fidgeting so much and this will be over soon, I promise.  If you behave the rest of the trip, we will stop at the Quidditch shop so you can get something there.  That or get some ice cream, okay?”

Johnathan sighed.  It was no use fighting his father about this.  Fighting him would only get him into trouble.  He glanced over at his little sister Nadine with Mother.  She didn’t look like she was enjoying this either. Johnathan wished he could get her and himself out of this annoyance, but he couldn’t.

Just then his already sour mood soured even further when he felt the him of his pants being pulled by what appeared to be a street urchin grasping to a puffskein followed by an ear-piercing, booming voice proclaiming she was lost and how her puffskein was hungry, blah, blah, blah.

More rudely than he should have, Johnathan ordered just about at the time the measurements for his right arm began:

“Ewww, get it off, get it off! Get the street urchin off of me, now. She doesn’t even have a real pet!”

Yep this was turning into a wonderful day, just peachy. With his luck that street urchin girl was probably a muggleborn and carrying a multitude of diseases.  Well, if he got sick from the street urchin, then he wouldn’t have to deal with mean, old, crusty Frau Zeitzev for a while. Maybe getting sick would be a blessing in disguise!

Special Phrase: Tibbles' Beard of Power

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
What is there to say about Amity Addison? She never considered herself special in any way, shape, or form, just a normal, average, half-blood girl growing up in a middle class family that had four incredibly obnoxious siblings. Her three older brothers always made fun of how old-fashioned she was and her bratty little sister Brianna followed Amity everywhere. Amity herself considered herself rather forgettable was quiet, reserved, average, and old-fashioned in her views and style of dress. Amity spent much of her time around her paternal grandmother because both of her parents worked.  It was her paternal grandmother that taught her reading, math, writing, French, art, and music.  Though her grandmother was a witch, she left the teaching of basic magic to her son when he was home because Amity drove her crazy with how fidgety she was. Amity loved to work with her hands from a very young age and had a very short attention span regarding academics and not talent whatsoever when it came to music. It drove her grandmother batty because she wanted Amity to do really well with academics and music so she could marry well one day. Unfortunately, the academic sessions didn't go too well since Amity was much more interested in doing things with her hands and only did just enough to get by when it came to academics.  When it came to creating things with her hands in art, however, Amity was brilliant.  Amity never thought she was, but her father did, so when it came to learning basic magic, her father knew Amity did much better with practical lessons than memorization, so he taught her that way and spent a ton of time showing her how to craft things with magic.  He was delighted at least one of his children found ‘making’ things interesting because all of the others could care less about such things.  Consequently, Amity was his favorite by far and her brothers were relentless with her because they were intensely jealous of the attention Amity got from their father.

Amity's father Robert loved to work with his hands and was a broom-maker and engineer from an upper-middle class wizarding family.  Her mother Destiny was from a poor, working class muggle family that rose against the odds to become a muggle nurse practitioner by working hard as a full-time waitress in college and earning several merit-based scholarships. Amity's maternal grandmother was a maid and her maternal grandfather was a muggle factory worker for a company that made steel tools. Amity's paternal grandmother was old-fashioned and stayed at home to take care of the children while her paternal grandfather was a mid-level government official in the British Ministry of Magic's International Trading Standards Body.  Her grandmother was a Hufflepuff and her grandfather was a Gryffindor. Her grandfather had been a prefect and her grandmother was always helping in the hospital wing when allowed to. Amity's father was on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, but never held any leadership positions. He was the quiet, solitary, nerdy, but fiercely loyal type that had few friends but was always reading and trying to learn the art of broom-making and engineering.

Amity's little sister Brianna never leaves her alone and it drives Amity crazy because she isn't the type that wants to socialize and play with a little immature, annoying kid.  She inherited that from her father.  Amity is polite and respectful, but she is most comfortable in solace.  She adores making things-from carving things out of wood to using clay to craft a one-of-a-kind pottery piece or sculpture to painting on canvas to sewing and making her own clothing to creating and trying new recipes.  She has always been incredibly fascinated with wand-lore, how wands are crafted, and well how anything is made. She spent a lot of time around her paternal grandmother, so she picked up her grandmother's conservative values, style of dress, and mentality.  She admires her mother for going against all odds to become a nurse-practitioner, but also loathes that she isn't home a lot to ‘tend to womanly’ duties like cooking, cleaning, etc.

Amity is happiest when she is making things and doesn't want to rely on her parents or grandparents forever financially so after she graduated Hogwarts in 1971, Amity sought out apprenticeships that were about making things, especially wands.  It was a bold step for her, but she wanted to learn how to make things with her hand. She started out working under her own father by weaving brooms, but her real passion was wands and their complexities and the fabulous lore affiliated with them.  So, after one year, she left her first job and became a clerk as Ollivander’s hoping that one day she might be able to learn the art of wand-making. By working in the real-world, she hopes to meet someone that is right for her and wed, have children, and ‘tend to womanly’ duties, but at the same time she wants to learn all that she can about wand-making. It might be a bit contradictory, but that is Amity Addison.

Roleplay Response:
Amity had was straightening up the messy shelves on the right wall closest to the door as directed after a frantically busy day of new Hogwarts students coming in to purchase their first wands and was washing the shop's window when she heard it's loud, booming, voice from a little girl after a loud THUNK from the outside, followed by a tug on the hem of her woolen, handmade skirt.  The thunk and voice were so loud, Amity swore she had become deaf for a few seconds.

She eyed the little girl and her puffskein with obvious disapproval and sighed.  This had been a rather trying day with all of the overly excited and rambunctious future Hogwarts students that had bombarded Ollivander’s and apparently it wasn't getting much better.  Amity had never really been a social person, but she put up a decent enough façade when at work of being one, but this encounter was about to push her over the limit.  She took a few deep breaths to keep her from lashing out at the innocent little girl and her puffskein. The little girl reminded her of her little sister Brianna following her everywhere and it was really hard to bite her tongue and not say something nasty to the little girl.

‘You’ll never prove yourself worthy enough to study wand-making alongside the owner if you can't practice patience,’ Amity said to herself and took another deep breath before finally responding to the girl's plea.

“I see.  Well, you are at Ollivander’s right now sweetheart, the wandmaker’s shop.  Do you know where that is? Where was the last place you saw your mommy or daddy? Do you remember?  What do they look like?”

Amity paused for a minute before reluctantly addressing the puffskein’s ‘needs’.

“And what is it that Mr. Sambundeakin likes to eat?  I have some left over crackers from my lunch. Does he like crackers? If not I have a chocolate bar. Let's get him something while we go ask the owner if he knows who your parents are and where they might be.  He knows almost everyone.”

If this response didn't show patience after the day today, then nothing ever would and it was time to look elsewhere.
