Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Alexander Bright

Birthday: February, 20th, 1960

Hometown: London

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength: Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Conjuring & Summoning

Year: Fourth preferred, third otherwise

Biography:

Alexander ("Sandy") is the middle child of wizard Arthur Bright and his muggle wife Colleen (neé Stuart). His father is bookish with a love for numbers and supports the family by doing accounting work for businesses in Diagon Alley. He secretly wishes he were a more powerful wizard and pushes Alexander to excel where he couldn't. His mother, though lacking magical ability, has managed to find her niche in the wizarding world, using her warmth and charm to integrate herself deeply with those in her husband's circles willing to befriend a muggle (especially her sister-in-law Callidora).

Alexander has an older sister, Audrey, who showed no inclination toward magic, much to her father's disappointment. This creates an odd dynamic where Arthur often treats Sandy like the oldest sibling and withholds from Audrey his full affection. Alexander's younger brother Stuart is an annoying five-year-old who breaks all of Sandy’s stuff.

Alexander is outgoing, but reserved. He's very quick to use humour, though he has a higher opinion of his jokes than his peers. Sandy is perhaps more observant than most boys his age, and has a good memory for facts.

Sandy likes to feel in control of the situations around him. When he finds he's not in control of a situation he tries to find that control by joking, and when that fails (which is often, since his humour isn't that great) he resorts to bullying. Most of the time, though, there's no reason to grasp for control. He's generally lazy, goofy and happy to live and let live.

He finds it hard to forget an offense and can be mad at a friend for weeks on end. He also remembers slights against his friends and can be frighteningly single-minded in seeking out justice for the offender.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Hufflepuff

Appearance: Sandy is  on the short end for a 14-year-old boy and slightly thinner than average, with mousy brown hair and blue eyes. He commonly slouches and shambles along when he walks. Mostly he doesn't give much thought to how he looks.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Roleplay option II response:

As soon as the class had ended, Sandy stalked out of the classroom and begun furiously striding down the hall. There couldn't possibly be any revenge he could think of that would be too horrible a retribution. One of the Ravenclaw students had twice in the last hour had the whole conjuring and summoning class laughing at his expense. It wasn't his fault that he couldn't get it right. If only his wit were as quick as the other boy’s maybe he could’ve had appropriate comebacks ready.

“Hey! Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Sandy pulled out of his thoughts, startled. What hall was this? He'd been so carried away in his thoughts that he wasn't paying attention to where he was going. The hall was empty save for him and the taller, older girl running toward him.

As she got up to him she gasped out a sentence between her short breaths: “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Sandy was confused, “What? Are you saying those are frog legs we’ve been eating? I suppose they haven't been bad.” Sandy began turning around as he finished the sentence to find his way back, then stopped as he realized he could ask the other student. “Oh wait, do you know which direction the astronomy tower is from here? I'm a little turned around,” he admitted.
