Biography: (100 words minimum.)

Iris' world revolves around her mother, Aurora (who likes to go by Aria because she doesn't like her name). Shunned by her family and judged by society for getting pregnant out of wedlock, Aria left her home with no particular plan in mind. Fortunately for the young, stubborn girl, her lonely path crossed that of Josephine Thornwood, an affluent Englishwoman who was seeking refuge in the Americas while chaos ran amuck in Britain. At the time, Josephine was mourning the death of her husband and the company of the lone, pregnant girl was as much a relief to her as it was to Aria. With the arrival of Iris, the three became an inseparable family and built a life of their own in a sleepy little village called Narrowsburg where Josephine had vacationed with her husband once a long time ago.

Although she happily accepted the home Josephine provided, proud Aria insisted on making herself useful and contributing to the household. The idea of being a homemaker stuck with the domestic chores had never appealed to her and it was not the kind of role-model she wanted to be for her daughter. But the task was not an easy one in their tiny town but she didn't back down and took on as many jobs as possible that were made available to women, which only tended to grow as the years passed. Funnily enough, over the years the one thing she enjoyed doing the most was sewing dresses and clothes for Iris. And even when Josephine brought her customers, some from across the seas following the war, Aria continued to work elsewhere as if to continue proving a point. To Iris, her Mom was a superwoman and the little girl worshipped the ground she walked on.

The news of Iris' magical abilities came as a complete surprise to the muggle women but they did not hesitate to get on board with the prospect of sending Iris to one of the biggest and most prestigious magical schools in the country. Being homeschooled by Josephine all her life, Iris was thrilled at the idea of attending school but living away from Mom and Nini (as she called Josephine) seemed inconceivable to her. Attending Ilvermorny proved to be a significant turning point for the Winters Women. Iris blossomed into a vibrant, bold and sociable teenager while her Mom spent less time on multiple jobs and focused on designing and sewing dresses most of the time.

Iris acclimated to life at Ilvermorny easily. The inclusive and increasingly diverse environment at the school (especially in comparison to the little town she grew up in) embraced her and allowed Iris to burst out of the cocoon created by her Mom and Nini. Though, she did stick with the group of friends she made during her first week at the school and took on their favorites as her own. Everything she learned about the world of witchcraft and wizardry was filtered through her group of friends (initially eight dwindling down to five by the third year). She did fairly well with school work, struggling mostly with disciplining herself with assignments or following specific instructions as she can tend to be impatient and want to rush things.

When Iris came home for Christmas in her third year, Mom and Nini had big news for her. They were moving to Britain in the new year to Nini's hometown just outside of London where Mom would be able to start a boutique of her own now that she had a bit of a reputation among Nini's friends and quite a bit of money saved. And Nini was keen on spending her time helping with the rehabilitation and rebuilding of her community. Seeing how her Mom glowed with excitement as she relayed the news, Iris momentarily forgot what this meant for her and joined in on the celebration. It wasn't until they started speaking of Hogwarts, its reputation and how the founders of Ilvermorny studied there that Iris realized they were talking about her leaving school and her friends behind. Not feeling ready to join them so suddenly without saying goodbye to her friends, Iris chose to return to Ilvermorny for the rest of the school year. Nini promised to ship her to Britain at any point in the year as soon as Iris sent word.

Physical Description:

The most striking feature about Iris is her long fiery, red curls that reach below her elbows, usually left wild but she is now learning how to braid her hair magically and tries out new styles. Her green eyes stand out when her hair frames her face but tend to seem lighter when her hair is pinned back. She is almost always smiling brightly, teeth flashing as soon as a familiar face passes by. She has long limbs and stands above average height (growing to become 5'7'' by the time she's eighteen) but isn't very athletic. She is usually dressed in her uniform at school but likes to flaunt the dresses and skirts sewn by her Mom during the weekends.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Hands tugging the ends of her scarf that tightened around her neck, Iris sauntered through the park taking in her surroundings intently. The sun shone brightly while a chilly breeze had strands of her fiery, red hair dancing behind her. It didn't look particularly different from back home but everything certainly felt different and she wasn't sure how to feel about it. She was miles away from home and although this wasn't the first time she had to make such a drastic change, Iris was more shaken by her move to Britain than she was with her entrance to Ilvermorny. Maybe it had something to do with the expansive ocean that she had to cross to get here or maybe it was the fact that their lives didn't resemble anything like her childhood growing up in Narrowsburg. Even Mom and Nini transformed. Was she ready for this change?

"You!"...Do you want to play?" Iris almost jumped when the high-pitched voice of a young girl cut through her thoughts. She raised her brows as she turned to look at the girl, lip curling into an amused grin at the boldness that exuded from the petite figure. It was only then that she heard the other sounds of excitement from further ahead, high above them, and spotted a few boys zipping around on broomsticks. From the annoyance displayed across the young girl's face and her demand to play it was easy to suss out that she was feeling left out. "Sure! I'm not very good on a broom, though." Iris admitted pursing her lips as she closed the distance between them.

Growing up a single child in a village where people looked down on the life of her single mother and shielded their kids from any interaction with Iris lest they were tainted by the unholy ideas she was raised on, Iris was accustomed to being left out. She spent most of her time tagging behind Mom or Nini, all the while talking, narrating fictional stories she conjured up or reading aloud to them as a way to constantly be interacting even if they were too busy to attend to her. It was only after attending Ilvermorny and making friends that she learned new ways to play and was now absolutely obsessed with all sorts of magical boardgames. With nothing at hand right there, Iris decided to improvise, "Do you know how to play hopscotch?" she asked the girl excitedly. She took out her wand to drag it through the dirt and draw squares, while she continued to explain how the game worked.
