Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Eden Llewellyn

Birthday: October 23, 1930

Hometown: Abergavenny, Wales

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Transfiguration

Year (pick two): Fifth (preferably), Sixth

Biography:
On the night of Eden's birth, it was stormy. Rain pounded against the rooftop, the house creaked in protest, and the wind's screams matched those of Eden's mother. She was a small baby, born nearly a whole month early, and the birth was difficult and long. But the sun came out in the morning, and Eden was born.

The Llewellyn family was not affluent. Eden’s mother, Elspeth, who’d come from a long line of purebloods, had been banished for marrying a muggle. Jonathan, Eden’s father, was simply a poor soldier who’d fought in the First World War. He had no money on him. Yet, the two lovers had managed to build a life for themselves and their beautiful daughters.

When Eden was eight years old, Elspeth was killed in a train accident. That incident changed her life. Jonathan became closed-off, falling into a deep depression after losing the love of his life. He was often unable to care for his children. Eden and her older sister of two years, Beca, were forced to fend for themselves. From a young age, she learned how to be independent. Because of the lack of money in their house and their father’s now inability to work, the two girls were forced to find jobs and ways to get money to simply survive. Eden became a very skilled pickpocket and had to learn defensive skills in order to survive in a world where many people would take advantage of her and Beca.

When she received her acceptance letter to Hogwarts, it was the happiest day of her life. Her sister, Beca, was not a witch, but she was fully supportive and their relationship was as good as ever. On the second day of her summer break, following her Fourth Year, she walked home from the library only to find her father. Hanging off of the ceiling fan. Dead.

She stood there, walked outside the door and screamed for help. Then, she fainted.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Slytherin

Personality: Eden is an introvert, always preferring her own company over others, but is not shy in the least bit. She is very opinionated, and is often guilty of forcing that opinion onto others. On more than one occasion, she has used her sharp wit and biting words to fight those who do not agree with her, and is not afraid to get physical when she sees people being unfair. Her past as a worker in a cotton factory, where she often saw foreman abusing their powers and treating those under them as lesser beings, has taught her the importance of justice and to always question authority. She is very stubborn and enjoys tricking people about who she is and what type of person she is.

Because of the trauma in her life, she is closed off and sometimes acts even mean to strangers. Most of her words are said using sarcasm, and she enjoys answering very serious questions with somewhat insane responses. After her father committed suicide, Eden began exhibiting symptoms of dysthymia. This has affected her general mood and personality in general, as she sometimes finds it difficult to go about her typical life because of her illness.

Her interests include reading, writing poetry, playing the cello (she doesn’t know how, but found a broken one laying on the streets and has since then been trying to fix it), pickpocketing, and messing with people.

Appearance: Eden has thick, dark hair she often decorates by wearing flower crowns she makes by hand. Her skin is very pale and clear, and her eyelashes are long and thick. She is tall, at 172 centimeters, and is slender and long-limbed.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Eden was sitting cross legged on the ground, underneath a willow tree, deftly making a flower crown with the red flowers that surrounded her. It was a gloomy day, the sun staying hidden behind thick clouds, peeking out every few hours like a groundhog peeking it's head out of a hole in the ground. It was a day that, unfortunately, did not match her mood. For what seemed like the first time in forever, she was feeling… cheerful? No, that wasn’t the word. Maybe, normal.

She smirked, watching the boy chase after the gray rat. He looked like a downright wanker, diving into the flowers and wiping his sleeve on his face like that.

“That’s disgusting,” she called out, snickering at his words, which were spoken with a snobbish tone. He was barely capable of doing it, though, through all the snot in his nose. She stood up, brushing off her black dress of nonexistent dirt, and walked towards the boy. Pulling a handkerchief from her pocket, she handed it to him. “I wouldn’t give this to you normally, but your nose is a public health violation.”

(I messed up her birth date. She wasn't born in 1930, she was born in 1933.)

Hi Eden, and welcome to the site!

Your application looks good so far, there's just one thing we'd like you to change before we can get you accepted. In Eden's biography, you describe the death of her father:

Quote
On the second day of her summer break, following her Fourth Year, she walked home from the library only to find her father. Hanging off of the ceiling fan. Dead.

She stood there, walked outside the door and screamed for help. Then, she fainted.

We feel that this is a little too explicit for our site rating. If you could alter this section to be less explicit (saying that he took his own life without going into further details about how he did so would be okay, for example) that would be great. Please also remember that the circumstances of his death should not be referenced with detail in any future threads either.

Once you've made the required changes, please repost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look at it. Thanks!
caterpillar in the tree, how you wonder who you’ll be
wish you may and wish you might, don’t you worry, hold on tight
I promise you there will come a day, butterfly, fly away
