Elsewhere Accepted / Charlie's Chocolate Factory
« on: 19/04/2015 at 14:19 »
SHOPKEEPER PERMIT
You must have applied as an Elsewhere character before completing this permit.

Shop name: Charlie's Chocolate Factory
Shop Type: A Chocolate Shoppe
Location: London
Subforum? Yes; The Backroom

Short Description (50 words max):

Indulgent and whimsical treats for a picky and tricky sweet tooth

Long Description (200 words min):

The building stands, strong after the months of bombings and before that years of neglect. She had a steady base sturdy walls, and had withstood much during over the years. Abandoned long before the war, she was built long enough ago to remember the rise and fall of Kings and Empires, and seen the birth and death of even more within her walls. At one time a home, then a restaurant, a garden center, a tobacco shop, a bar and so many more they were forgotten. But she soon became a place of whispered stories and tragic rumors.

Murder, mayhem, and the meddling of all thing illegal, the building's sordid past was nothing to scoff at, and soon was all that was remembered. Among the towering, ever growing London: this little building remained. Untouched, and too often howling at any interested buyer.

But none of that had been the building's doing.

She could not be blamed for what had gone on within her walls. Cruel owners had left her bitter, and the war had nearly torn her down, but still, she prevailed. Her stubborn brick was as tough as steel.  The hint of a hair-line crack in the roof and a layer of dust were the only indications of age. So she sat, and waited.

When Charles Kedding stepped through the dusty threshold one evening in late December, he was the first to be interested in over a hundred years.

In one hand a little girl, with mittens and a hat nestled over a mop of curls, and in the other an infant held close to his chest. After a brief (very brief) tour, the fumbling and nervous seller made a stuttering attempt to sell. Offered for so low a price there was most certainly had to have been a catch, but Charles Kedding hardly ever thought that way, and looked down at the little girl that had returned to clutch his pant leg.

"Well, what do you think, Eva?"

She nodded, and the building was bought.

The building no longer moaned. The sounds of pitter-pattering across the floors were only the feet of squealing children and any creak or groan was a customer pulling out a chair. After weeks of cleaning and repairing, painting and decorating the chocolate factory was ready for business.

The building flourished. She shone as brightly as her sparkling clean floor and welcomed guests through her doors.

However... where there is history, it is seldom hard to forget. Occasionally a seat is pulled out from someone trying to sit. A donut somehow finds its way floating across the room. But Charlie will laugh them off, he will smack the wall and scold the building to be nice to guests. And she was listen, and she will go silent, at least until she wants to once again be remembered.

She likes the Kedding Family, though, and she is kind to them.

The backroom is another story.

As most hauntings go, a backroom is a sure fired way to find the inhabitants that refused to leave. Tucked beneath bonbons and lollipops is history, and they're there, stirring the pot. If you wish to sit and talk in this particular room, you may be in for more than a moving pot. Enter at your own risk.

What purpose will this shop serve other than selling things and being the home of your character? Why would people want to RP there just for fun?: The chocolate shop would be a great addition to the London forum. Since there aren't many opportunities to role play there, other than the institutes, The Chocolate Factory would provide a great alternative to Honeydukes in Hogsmeade.

Like a candy shop or ice cream, a chocolate shop can serve as a place for casual threads and sit down threads for coffee and tasty treats and job opportunities for newly graduated characters. What makes this particular chocolate shop unique is it's ancient history as a haunted location in London. Who doesn't want to drink chocolate milk in a haunted house?

Hello Montague,

Your profile is coming along wonderfully, but there are a few things that I’d like you to address before we accept your application.

First, I’d like you to return to your Biography and include commas where you’d find yourself pausing and to separate paragraphs when a new thought is started. It always helps to say what you’ve written out loud to see where a comma is appropriate. This helps the reader understand more clearly and is great practice.

For example,

Quote
During my first year at Hogwarts my mother who knew nothing of where i was or what was going on was involved in a tragic accident involving roughly 1 metric tonne of potatoes; grandfathers sense of humour you see, he always referred to her as that farm girl.

Can be changed to:

Quote
During my first year at Hogwarts, my mother, who knew nothing of where I was or what was going on, was involved in a tragic accident involving roughly 1 metric tonne of potatoes; grandfathers sense of humour you see, he always referred to her as that farm girl.

Secondly, for your role play response, there are a few things I’d like you to address.

There are a few things that Monty did that could be seen as a ‘Powerplaying’. You may control only your character. You cannot post that someone’s character did something or said something without having that player's permission beforehand. This includes impersonating another character, or determining whether a spell your character uses affects the other character.

For example, Montague picks up Amelia’s and fixes it on the spot. This would be considered a powerplay, as you’re making an action that doesn’t allow Amelia to properly respond to. You can change this statement to, “Montague pulled out his wand and made an attempt to Reparo Amelia’s shoe

When you phrase it this way, such as “made the attempt” or “hoping it would work” or “trying a spell” allow Amelia the chance to respond. She could pull the shoe from your hand, or let it be fixed, or perhaps it doesn’t fix at all. That’d be for her to decide.

The same goes for the inkpot and the scattered papers. Please make these adjustments and post your edited profile below and we’ll look at it again!

Hello Alexander!

Your application looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to see Alex in action. There are only a few details I’d like you to address before we accept your application!

First, for your levels, we ask that there is a relatively even distribution across the four categories. Of course, characters are welcome to have their strengths, but your lowest ability should be half of the highest. (For example, if you’d like Transfiguration to be as high as 10, Divination would need to be at least 5.

Second, I see that your biography is written entirely in first person.  I love it as much as the next writer, and I know your roleplay response is in the third person. This is just a friendly reminder that roleplays should always be in third person. (I’m just making sure!)

Third, while Alex has had some awesome adventures and a very fascinating life, there are some things that may need a special request approval from our Admin team. Some of the aspects of Alex’s history seem, while very exciting, a little unrealistic for our site. For several years, from 1937 until late 1941, the Ministry had set a lockdown, and people were not allowed in or out of the country, so for some of Alex’s trips, he most likely would have been unable to get into the UK. Also, hiring an ex-Germany Spy in the Ministry seems like a stretch for us, and you may need to have a Special Request approved for how you plan to follow through with that plot.

You are more than welcomed to remove this from his history, and leave it so he was arrested and later released before coming to London after 1941, to avoid needing to fill out the Special Request. Let me know what you decide!

Very last thing, and I know it’s a lot so I apologize, but I’d rather tell you it all now than later. Very small detail, but for your roleplay response, if this was a real rp, you’ve made it very difficult for Joshua to respond, since Alexander walked away. Instead, you can have Alexander turning to leave, but still leave it open for Joshua to make a proper response.

Thanks very much for making the changes, and I hope we can get you playing soon! Any questions, please feel free to PM me!

Ms Herondale,

I’ve accepted your application, but please note I had to make a small adjustment to your levels. We request that the lowest ability must be at least half of the highest, so I changed your Charms to 11, and Summoning to 6. This little change meets the requirement!

Everything else was absolutely lovely, and you’re all ready to start posting in Elsewhere! Can't wait to see you there!

Hello Bonnie! Welcome to HS.net! Your application is coming along very nicely, but there are just a few things I would like you to address.

I see Bonnie is a muggleborn, and that’s fantastic. I have muggleborn characters myself! However, being a muggleborn also means that she would have experienced the Time Warp. You can get more information about it here: Time Warp

It was an event in our site’s history that send the Wizarding World back in time, but left the Muggelborns ahead. This would have meant that Bonnie would have been left at only 3 years old, and would have likely been picked up by St Mungos Orphanage. I’d like to know how that affected her, with her weak health and being pulled away from her father and grandmother.

Please copy and paste your entire application, and respond below instead of editing. That way we know to come back and look. Thank you!

Elsewhere Accepted / Re: Michael Albear l Elsewhere Adult
« on: 22/12/2014 at 16:50 »
Hello dear, sorry for such a delayed response to your lovely bio!

There was a little back and forth between us on how to properly address the mature nature of Michael's abusive past. As you know, we're a PG-13 site, and we have younger members. In regards to abuse of minors, we have a general rude of: "Abuse of minors should not be directly described or mentioned."

We know that you are a mature player and know how to handle Michael's history with keeping that in mind. This is less of a need for you to change your application, and more of a reminder. We trust that you won't push this line too far. (And if you have any questions, feel absolutely free to contact me! I, too, played a character that came from an abusive household so I know good language if you ever need a gut-check.)

That said, I would suggest the following alterations:

Quote
His gentle demeanor had to be taken away and so did the outbursts, they were to be beaten and stripped from him.

Quote
Michael’s training had started early, early enough that when he had his first fit of rage he had received a sound beating, had cried to his mother and in return, cast away and beaten punished once more for crying.

If you'd change those mentions, that'd be lovely, as they just eliminate the harshness. We know you'll be the mature player we've seen you be when handling Michael's past. You're the best, and thanks for understanding.
