Dear Sir,
My name is Euphemia Vane and I am eleven years old. Soon I’ll be starting my first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I have lived in Liverpool with my mum and grandmother for my entire life. I have an aunt named Vi who I like very much and a cousin named Wendy who I don’t like at all (most of the time).
I’m very good at many things. I like studying and know much more than Wendy. I expect to do very well at Hogwarts and am especially excited for Charms, Transfiguration, and Potions (but everything else, too). I’m also good at flying so I will probably be on the Quidditch team. Grandmother has made me promise to keep Wendy out of trouble, so that will take up a lot of time, too.
I have medium brown hair and green eyes, so I don’t look like the rest of my family. Aunt Vi says I have her nose, though.
Now that you know a little about me, I have a few questions for you.

House Request: Effy would make a great Gryffindor; she has a quiet sort of strength and bravery, and plenty of passion. Effy would make a great Ravenclaw; she values knowledge above most things, and is analytical and perceptive. Effy would make a great Hufflepuff; she’s loyal to only a select few, but is never afraid of hard work. Effy would make a great Slytherin; she’s incredibly ambitious and not above manipulation. Sort me!
Personality: Effy is more sober and serious than the typical eleven-year-old, but she’s not lacking in feeling; when something’s important to her, it’s a true passion. She loves learning — not just for its own sake, but because it gives her a better understanding of the world, and how she can function within it. She’s often frustrated by silliness and immaturity, but secretly wants to be a part of something. She’s observant, dynamic, self-confident, and fiercely independent, but can also be manipulative, unyielding, domineering, and inconsiderate.
Appearance: Effy has medium-brown hair and light green eyes. She’s very small for her age, but doesn’t mind being so; she’s quick and can easily disappear into the background when she wants to. She’s slow to smile and even slower to laugh, but when she does, it’s genuine. Her movements tend to be intentional and steady, and she can stay still for hours at a time.

Effy enjoyed the gardens. They were like a much larger version of the well-tended space behind her grandmother’s home in Liverpool, where she had grown up. They were lovely, and peaceful, and quiet.
Most importantly, quiet.
At the abrupt sound of ungainly feet trampling through the nearby flora, Effy sighed and folded her book in her lap before looking askance at the intruder. Far from apologizing for the interruption, though, the boy - Hugh, she thought, narrowing her eyes - had the audacity to accuse her. All because he couldn’t manage to keep track of his own pet rat, she surmised quickly, and huffed.
“Excuse you,” Effy replied indignantly. “It’s rude to interrupt someone’s studying.” She paused, before adding exactingly, “And you need a handkerchief. Honestly."
When it came to fifteen-year-old boys and rodents, Effy would much prefer the company of the rat.
