Biography:
If sixth year:

The story of the Yates family starts long, long time ago, around the same time Hogwarts was created. The first character in this story is Thomas Yates, a young wizard from a small, but wealthy family. He grew up living in the heart of London, England with his wand maker father, Daily Prophet journalist mother, and two younger sisters. He saw no sort of struggle throughout his childhood, always receiving the things he wanted exactly when he wanted them. There was no question that this young boy had his entire life made. Next we have young Miss Nina Platt, a young witch whose family wasn’t rich, but wasn’t poor either. Between dealing with five children running around the house all day and both Mr. and Mrs. Platt working full-time to put food in their mouths, Nina lived a very different life from Thomas. Upon the creation of Hogwarts, the two young teens received their acceptance letters and were sent off to the boarding school shortly after. Both new students were sorted into the house of Helga Hufflepuff due to their various qualities such as loyalty and kindness. Over time, the two came to know each other through mutual friends, classes, and both being a part of the Hufflepuff quidditch team. It was just a matter of time before the two fell head-over-heels for one another and tied the knot soon after graduating from Hogwarts. And so the Yates family was created.

Now, track the family many generations into the future and you just might come across the Yates family living today. There are two, actually. Charles and his brother, George, are the only two Yates men with their own families today. Right now, we are going to focus on Charles and his family. Just like his great, great, great, great [ … ] grandfather, Charles met his wife at Hogwarts. Amelia Hurst was just a third year Hufflepuff when he was a fifth year Hufflepuff, but that didn’t stop his fascination with her free-spirited personality from evolving into something much more than that. Charles found himself breaking all his rules just to spend some time with her. He would ditch classes when he knew she didn’t have any. He joined the quidditch team, even if he did suck, in order to see her more often. He even went as far as attempting to fail a year so that he could get one more year with her, though that plan wasn’t successful. The young witch and wizard were madly in love and so, as soon as Amelia finished her seventh year at Hogwarts, the two finally made it official and were married on the 7th of June. The two began the next part of their journey together, moving into a house on the sandy shores of Southampton, England. Charles took over the family business of wand making while Amelia spent her days working as a healer at St. Mungo’s Hospital.

Just two years after their wedding, their first child was born, a baby boy whom they called Jackson. The boy enjoyed four years as an only child, getting all the attention from his parents, receiving almost anything he wanted, and not having to worry about a thing in the world. Three weeks after the boy’s first birthday, his world changed forever. Amelia Yates ( nee. Hurst ) gave birth to two beautiful twin girls, Annabelle and Emily. These girls stole the hearts of their parents, getting most, if not all, of their attention. They were small and fragile; they needed protections that their brother didn’t. The twins grew up the same way as their older sibling. Given anything they wanted, cared for, and loved. It was the lifestyle that came with the Yates family; something all of them were grateful for.

The entire family was a close one. The children grew up spending most of their time together. They would play games by the beach after finishing their chores or talk their parents into taking them into town to go shopping or on an adventure. There really was never a dull moment in their lives. As Jackson turned eleven and left for Hogwarts, the twins stayed close with one another, becoming practically attached at the hip. As cliché as it sounds, they really were each other’s best friend. Four years later, when two acceptance letters were delivered for Annabelle and Emily Yates, the twins couldn’t have been happier. It was the moment they had been waiting for their entire life, almost literally. They were finally getting to join their brother at Hogwarts and continue the Yates Legacy.

Almost all of the Yates family had been sorted into Hufflepuff upon attending Hogwarts. It was very rare that any of them qualified to be placed in another house. It has reached the point where there are jokes constantly circulating the halls of Hogwarts that they are thinking about renaming the house Yatepuffs, due to the large amount of students sorted into the house that have come from the family. Both the girls swore up and down that they would be sorted into the house. They had all the qualities needed to make it. Annie was hard-working and fair, while Emily was dedicated and patient. There was no question that both of the children were kind and willing to put in hours of work until the job was finished. But the Sorting Hat saw something else in the two; something that not even they could see in themselves.

First up for sorting was Annie. She wasn’t nervous. In fact, she was confident that she would be sorted as a Hufflepuff. The hat began to speak as it was placed upon her head, “Hmm, another Yates child. You’re expecting to have a seat waiting for you at the Hufflepuff table, no?” He asked, waiting until the young girl nodded her head before continuing, “You would make an excellent addition to the house, but there’s something else in you. You’re brave, unlike most. You are also courageous and daring. These traits are so hard to ignore. There’s no question of which house you truly belong in. You have a lionheart, Annie; you belong in … Gryffindor!” In that moment, she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. There must have been a mistake, she belonged in Hufflepuff, not Gryffindor. She would never make it with them, she wasn’t brave enough. But the young girl didn’t fight it. Instead she simply stood up, made her way to the section of cheering students, and took her seat at the table. The next seven years were going to be difficult.

The next student to be sorted was Emily Yates. Just as Annie had wanted, Emily was hoping to be placed in Hufflepuff. The hat began asking the same questions to her twin sister, and then did the same thing as he had done to Annie. He placed Emily in Ravenclaw, the house best known for their intelligence and wit, as well as being creative. She couldn’t argue, Emily was all of those things and the decision did seem logical. She watched as her sister joined her new classmates at the Ravenclaw table and once their eyes finally met, Annie gave her a somewhat nervous smile before they both went about interacting with their soon to be friends.

It was difficult for Annie to adjust to her house. She didn’t think that it was the right place for her. Sure, the hat had pointed out all of the traits that qualified her to be in the house, but she just couldn’t see them in herself. For most of her first year, she was detached; cold to anyone who attempted to speak to her and longing for the year to be over so that she could tell her parents that she did not want to return to the school. But her mind was quickly changed when an older Gryffindor female finally approached her, hoping to knock some sense into the young teen. She explained what it really meant to be a Gryffindor. How they stood up for those who couldn’t stand up for themselves, took on the tasks that others were too afraid to take on, and most importantly, kicked ass at quidditch. After that one conversation, Annie began to think about the Sorting Hat’s decision in a whole new way.

Her next few years at Hogwarts were much different than her first. She began to find herself, building up and exercising traits that she didn’t even know she had, making tons of new friends, and working towards becoming the person she wanted to be, not what she thought she had to be.

If First Year, the bio should end with the paragraph that starts with the sentence, "The next student to be sorted was Emily Yates." and leaving out the last two paragraphs.

House Request: Gryffindor

Personality:

  • Outgoing - Annie is an extrovert, there's no question about that. She easily makes new friends and connects with other people upon their first meetings. She doesn't get shy often and always seems to have an answer to everything, whether or not it is the right one is a completely different story.
  • Honest - Honesty is the best policy. Annie hates to lie, one of the many reasons she wasn't sorted into Slytherin. She never beats around the bush either. If she is going to say something, it will be the blunt truth, no sugar coating it.
  • Playful - Though she is often dedicated to her work, Annie loves to have fun. She is constantly playfully messing with her friends. Whether it be begging them to come on an adventure with her, or teasing them about some silly topic, she finds a way to make any situation fun. Something everyone comes to love about her.
  • Reckless - That explains it. This trait very easily goes with her impulsive nature. She doesn't think before she acts with very quickly puts her in dangerous situations. There are even times when she fully knows what she is getting herself into, but simply doesn't think she will get hurt or doesn't care if she does.
  • Impulsive - Annie is a feeler. She would much rather act off instinct than having to think through what she is going to do. There's no time to wait, we must act now. This is just another one of those reasons she was sorted into Gryffindor, the spontaneous heroic moments.
  • Protective - It isn't uncommon for Annie to become protective over those whom she comes to know and care for. She often takes on the parental role of her friends in the way that she constantly asks if they are alright, tries to keep them from getting in trouble, and generally wants to protect them from others.

Appearance: Being 5'8", Annie is on the taller side. She gets this height from her father's side of the family, since most of them are 5'7" and taller. The female's hair is long and wavy, and the natural color is a dark brown tone. She has dyed her hair completely blonde at one point and then an ombre style with a dirty blonde on the bottom and her natural color at the top. Her eye color is brown and this doesn't change. Weighing in at just 121 Ibs, she has a slim build and due to her love of always being active, she is fit.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

As the students began to gather in the Great Hall after the game, Annie wanted badly to be anywhere but in the room full of screaming teenagers. Everyone had something to say at the moment. Whether it was because their team had just won the Cup or because they were on the loosing team, the noise quickly built up and it was becoming way too much for someone to handle. It had been three years since Gryffindor lost the Quidditch Cup, but now it was all over because a second year couldn’t hold onto a quaffle to save his life. Instead of following the large crowds in, she remained in the hallway, hoping to find a quiet place to slip to while the celebrating took place. Just as she was turning on her heels to head down an empty hallway, her attention caught onto the sound of a student shouting at another. Just great. She was going to have to play peacemaker now. A sigh escaped her as she turned herself back around and quickly towards the boy, “James,” she began, not even having reached him yet. Her voice soft and soothing, yet there was also a feeling of authority as spoke, “you need to calm down.”

Once the words left her mouth, she took her eyes off the boy and turned to the other student who looked terrified as ever. “Go on,” She shooed, waiting until the kid was far enough gone that this wouldn’t turn into a full scale issue. Her face was a mixture of a sympathy and disappointment. “You can’t just go around yelling at kids because you’re upset. You’re not a looser, alright? Things happen, games get lost. We can’t win every year and that’s just the facts.” Gently placing a hand on his shoulder, she decided to wrap up her somewhat motivational speech, “No one is going hold this against you unless you let them. So don’t get yourself hung up over it.” The kid had talent, there was no doubt about that. If he didn't, he would not have made the team and most definitely would not have been playing in the game. As she dropper her hand from his shoulder, she gave him a soft smile. Hopefully he would take it all in and learn from his mistake rather than let it keep him down.
