Biography: (300 words minimum.)

For most of his life, Cameron Marksby had never really felt at home. Ostracized from his muggle family at eleven, his guilt at leaving behind his sister nearly ate him alive. After she joined him in the wizarding world and helped him reconcile with their parents, it seemed only a blink of an eye before they were lost again.

Hufflepuff had been the most like a home to him during school. But that was before Sophie.

The timing was wrong for a long time. He'd kissed Daisy. They were together, then he kissed Daisy again. She kissed Edgar out of spite. They made up. Cameron left Hogwarts, only to find out halfway through the next year that Sophie had been with Bo Madigan.

And then - something clicked. Cameron still didn't know what it was.

He finally had it all.

A good job and a steady income, a wife, and they were well on the way to a white picket fence and 2.5 children. He never left for a shift without saying "I love you," and came home after each and said it again. He was home.

Ruthie had recently moved out of their cramped apartment after graduating from Hogwarts, and they finally had the place to themselves, save for occasional unannounced visits from siblings. It was so quiet that Cameron might have gone mad if it weren't for Sophie.

She put up with the long hours at the hospital, the times he was on call and had to leave at a moment's notice, accidentally waking her up while getting ready for work at 4 AM. He brought her flowers from Diagon and sweets from Honeydukes and he never forgot her birthday.

Everything was perfect, and that should have been his first clue.

One afternoon as he came home from the hospital, she handed him an official-looking postcard. He recognized the words immediately: DRAFT NOTICE.

Roleplay:

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:

His breaks were few and far between that day, and thus he only had ten minutes to track down a decent cup of coffee and return to the hospital. He walked as quickly as possible in the crowd, fighting against other warm bodies and the uphill climb.

In a moment of opportunity, Cameron tried to dart around some of the slower-moving crowd, only to cry out as an older gentleman directly in front of him slid in the snowy walk and crashed into him. The box of tinsel hit him next and the blond stumbled backward into the moving crowd, nearly causing a pedestrian pileup. Shiny bits of tinsel decorated his hair as he regained his footing on the slick walk, letting the box fall to the ground.

"I am so sorry! This blasted snow!"

"It's all right," Cameron assured him, tinsel stuck in his hair. "Here, let me help with that." He bent down to retrieve the box and began picking up tinsel off the ground, shaking it to get the snow off. The stuff was easy enough to pick up, at least. But he could probably forget about his cup of coffee.

Cameron stood and smiled, offering the box back to the man. "So, where are you headed?"

Department of choice: (select one, descriptions here)
Emergencies & Triage

Why did you request that particular department?
As a young man on his first day of healer training, Cameron realized only just as the paper left his fingertips that he had fallen asleep on top of the formal paperwork the previous evening and neglected to finish his research into which department would be best suited for him and his strengths. A small, barely-audible, strangled sound left his lips, but it was too late. He wrung his hands nervously throughout the lectures on procedure and the daily inner workings of the hospital only to arrive to the en masse mentor assignment in a state of pure panic. In the chaos of the moment, as juniors were dashing left and right to find their mentors (he hadn't heard the name of his) a familiar looking blonde woman grabbed him by the shoulder and turned him around, smiling.

"Looks like you're with me!" she said, tossing his packet of paperwork back into his hands. Confused, he glanced down.

He'd penciled in
Emergencies & Triage.

Biography:

It was, if I'm honest, the bravest thing I've ever done.

But I can't - I refuse to call it bravery, though. If anything, I was the exact opposite - a coward, running away from the conflict that had arisen from the one thing I had disagreed upon with my father.

I'm getting ahead of myself. You really should hear the whole story, in context.

I grew up in what I later learned was a muggle household, on a sheep farm outside of Oxford. If you looked at my family, you wouldn't guess they'd be able to afford a house like that - light blue paneling and polished stone, with enough bedrooms and sitting rooms for everyone to have a quiet place to sit alone at any given time - even the dogs. The house had been passed down to my father from his father, and I think he expected me to take it from him in time -- more on that later.

I've got a baby sister, too -- though I doubt she'd take kindly to being called a baby anymore. She's still at Hogwarts - fifteen, and a Gryffindor. That's something I never saw coming, myself, but I suppose she's had to look after herself for such a long time that…

Right. That.

I was eleven. It was a strange letter, if not for the method of delivery then for the message it contained. I turned it over in my hands and looked up. My father's expression was one of grim disbelief, mine just the opposite. He snatched it from me and told me not to speak of it again. After the eighty-second letter, much to my father's chagrin, I began to argue with him. He told me it was ungodly, a sin. I couldn't bring myself to believe that about what seemed like such a wonderful gift.

I left without saying goodbye to Ruthie.

I wasn't sure she'd ever forgive me, but she's come around. We're not the same as we were before, but we are on deep-dark-secret-sharing terms again. Everything seems to have worked out for the best. I've got my family on good terms with me, a beautiful girlfriend, and a career I happen to be good at. Let's hope I can hold on to it all for a while.

But we all know the Lord works in mysterious ways.

"Coming through!"

The double doors burst open as the newly-minted Junior Healer shoved through, dodging the milling patients and staff and leaving behind a trail of parchment. The doors stayed open just long enough to allow a glimpse of the scene beyond - a riot of noise, colours and gesticulating arms - before closing again.

It was Archibald Forrester's first day on the job, and while his professors had warned him it could get hectic at St. Mungo's, he'd never imagined it'd be quite like this. Arms transfigured and somehow regrafted onto someone's head, an Auror coughing up rainbows after a dust-up with a gang of young hooligans in Knockturn, and oh - that patient up on the fourth floor that was running around telling people he was Merlin reborn. And that was just the cases that had come in in the last hour.

It had to be time for his shift to be over, right?

He gave up the lost bits of parchment as a lost cause and cast a frantic Tempus. One minute. Heaving a sigh of relief,  his eyes instantly began darting around to find a convenient on-duty person to hand his load over to. Shoes - bought at the nice medical suppliers and outfitters just down the street - squeaked on the floor as he weaved and skidded around corners, before finally stopping in front of the first figure he found.

"Here. Here are all the charts - the arms for the Transfig patient seem to be morphing into tentacles, and Healer Wilberforce says we need to operate now but needs a second opinion - the Auror's squad captain is outside demanding to know what's been keeping the treatment and uh - "

A few floors up, muffled thumping and howling could barely be heard, but Archie winced anyway.

"Right. Mr. Merlin's somehow gotten hold of a wand and now the entire psych wing believes in him too - for the love of all that's magical, take this, please!"

Roleplay Response:
"Whoa, Forrester! Slow down." Cameron lifted a free hand to steady the young man by his shoulder, balancing his own stack of paperwork in the other. His smile was as easy and carefree as it usually was, owing to the fact that he'd somehow managed to eat a proper lunch just a few minutes earlier. "Chaos breeds chaos, yeah?" He didn't take the charts being thrust at him, for Juniors were a bit skittish and liable to disappear the moment they could absolve themselves of immediate responsibility.

Instead, he took a step inward to be able to read the charts along with the lad, keeping him in close proximity. "Now, let's start with your most pressing case, in terms of safety. I'd say that's Mr. Merlin, yeah?" Cameron glanced through the important bits on the chart - second nature by then - and reached out to try and catch hold of Forrester's elbow and keep him from running away as Cam began to move toward the lift.

"Up to the psych wing, then. We'll have it all done in no time, I promise." To say nothing of the cases the former Hufflepuff already had on his own plate. Such was life as a healer, he supposed. He'd have to owl Sophie later to tell her he'd be late.

"Where's your mentor, anyway?"
