CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Harlowe Cameron

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Lia Ayres et al.

Character age: 37

Character education: Hogwarts 1938 - Gryffindor Alumni

Strength and weaknesses (details please):
Harlowe is skilled at making the best out of any situation. Growing up attending stuffy parties and events and classes that she couldn’t care less about, she learned to take a situation and find a way to make it fun. With a moment’s notice and some decent company, she can get a proper party going and make it a time to remember. The ability to easily make friends, a good dose of creativity, and a determination to get the absolute most out of life definitely help on this front too. Loneliness isn’t a word that exists in her vocabulary and neither is boredom, and she’d very good at making sure this is true of everyone she cares about as well.

On the other hand, Harlowe has never been good at committing. Not to other people, not to jobs, not to living situations. She rarely sticks with anything for longer than a year or so, and the second that someone mentions commitment, she’s already running as fast as she can in the other direction. Her attention span is short, her interest flits from one thing to another quicker than a runaway train, and she’s often too impulsive for her own good. She can go into something with the best of intentions, but her follow through isn’t always great, if she can stay on track to follow through at all.  And even if she does manage to make it through something, she’d probably pissed off at least one person in the process.

Physical description:
The first thing you notice about Harlowe is her constant smile. It’s probably for the best since the rest of her appearance is pretty average. Blonde hair, usually tied up, sometimes even neatly, grey eyes that are dark enough to not be remarkable, average height, clothes that are nice enough but not overly fashionable or bold, and thin but not particularly fit. There’s nothing overly special or remarkable about her at first glance, so she’s always relied on her personality to make up for not being the most gorgeous woman in the room.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.):
If you asked anyone who knew her, they’d tell you that Harlowe is fun. She’s always down for a good time and if one is not readily available, she’s going to be the one to get it started. She’s always been outgoing and friendly, never struggling to walk up to just about anyone and turn them into her newest friend, a skill that also comes in handy when finding herself in tricky situations. She makes the best out of everything and ensures that everyone else is enjoying themselves as well. Especially if kids are involved. She’s always had a soft spot for children.

Harlowe’s always been smart, but you wouldn’t know that by looking at her achievements. She lacks the interest and focus for academic pursuits and the work place, always more interested in the real world and real people than the ones you find in books and on paper. She can excel when she puts her mind to things, but that doesn’t happen often, unless it involves having fun. Commitment to anything has never been her strong point.

The trouble is that Harlowe just doesn’t think things through. She’s impulsive, a bit reckless, and devil-may-care when it comes to the vast majority of things. She’s the sort to run off for the weekend with someone she just met, even though she’d promised her mum that she’d make an appearance at an event. She’s been lucky that she’s never really found herself somewhere too dangerous.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?:
Harlowe loved Hogwarts when she attended. Sure, she wasn’t a great student and she probably caused more trouble than she was generally worth, but they were the best years of her life. She wants to go back and help ensure that this is the case for the current students as well.

Beyond teaching at Hogwarts, Harlowe still doesn’t know what she wants out of life. She likes the idea of a family, but she’s not sure that’ll ever happen. Mostly, she just hopes to keep having as much fun as possible.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):

Harlowe Cameron was supposed to be a lot of things.

For one, she was supposed to be a boy. She was supposed to carry on the family name and bloodline, produce a whole bunch of mini-Camerons and follow in her father’s footsteps of getting a good job and being a notable figure in the community. Instead, she showed up a girl. Not a great start.

She was supposed to be the oldest of a few Cameron children. However, her arrival into the world was not the smoothest, and her parents were not able to have more children. Whoops.

But those were things that the family could get past, of course. She could be a good girl, well behaved, proper, excel at school and in life, do her family proud. She could still bring honour to the family. Become someone high up in the Ministry, perhaps, or a talented healer, or something along those lines. Someone important. Marry well, have a family, raise the next generations of great pureblood witches and wizards.

The trouble was that Harlowe wasn’t any of those things, not really. She was too wild and fun loving to be well behaved and proper, too disinterested to excel in school and work, too busy sneaking out at night and away from parties to bring honour to the family. And don’t even get her family started on her tendency to dive head first into things without a single thought.

Harlowe was supposed to be many things, but mostly, she has just been a disappointment.

Nothing really changed when she got to school. Curfew meant little to her, nor did most rules, and she spent a rather astonishing amount of time in detention (sometimes serving these because she had skipped detention). The only thing that really seemed to keep her attention for longer than a couple of weeks was conjuring magic, which she excelled at during her school years. Everything else tended to fall to the wayside, resulting in her just scraping through when it came to her graduation year. She’s still not entirely sure how she managed to graduate, if she’s totally honest.

There was one thing at school that really stood out though. Not academics, of course.  It was a boy. One who awed her with stories of his adventures and kissed her when she least expected it and understood her family situation.

But then he disappeared and she was still stuck at school and he never came back. It messed her up in the way teenage love sometimes does, and perhaps explains quite a bit about who she became as she got older. But she tries not to think of that too much, hating the idea that someone might actually have that sort of power over her.

Upon graduation, she took off herself, travelling the world, working odd jobs until she could make enough money to move on, never staying in one place longer than half a year or so, finding the best people and the most fun in every place she landed. She’d thought about settling a few times, met some people who might have made it worth it, but that one boy from Hogwarts disappearing always popped back into her mind, the feeling of being left behind resurfacing, and she would take off again. Better to be the one leaving then the one left behind. She’d done the latter once already and she had no interest in it happening again.

And then the day came when she found herself halfway through her thirties with nothing to show for her life. She still didn’t know what she wanted, but she knew that the transient lifestyle was getting old. Maybe it was time to start settling down. So she headed back to London and rented a flat.

To her surprise (and probably the surprise of anyone who knew her), she actually stayed for over a year. She met people and kept hanging out with them. She made new friends and stuck to the plans. She never really bothered with the steady job thing, working here and there when she needed the cash, but staying in one place was a good start. Who would have thought you could have adventures without changing cities every few months?

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:

Harlowe knew she was late, but she didn’t bother to walk any faster. There was nothing wrong with being a little late. Time was a social construct after all, and there were things far more important than these arbitrary meeting times.

Plus, she was only five minutes late. That barely counted as late, and if it did, it was most definitely of the fashionable variety.

She opened the door to the Headmistress’s office and her smile fell a little. It seemed that Anneka Ivanova was a fan of those social constructs, if her expression was anything to go by. The whole thing gave Harlowe flashbacks to when she was a student herself and saw more than her fair share of those sorts of expressions. Some things never changed.

She fixed her smile. “Sorry about that, Headmistress,” she said. “Ran into a young girl in the midst of a potions mishap on my way up. She’d dropped her vials and was covered in the stuff. The poor girl was quite upset about the whole thing, so I took a moment to help her get cleaned up. Couldn’t help her replace the potion - never my strength - but she said she could find someone else for that.”

She’d even managed to get a smile out of the girl in the end, with the help of a few conjured flowers for her hair.

“Shall we get down to business? I’d hate to waste any more of your time than I already have.”

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Harlowe was supposed to have been born a boy, to carry on the Cameron family name. She was supposed to be the oldest of a few, instead of an only child. She was supposed to make her parents proud, uphold their blood status, get a good job, make her family proud.

She was supposed to be a lot of things. But when it comes to her family, she’s mostly just ended up being a disappointment.

She’s always been a little more wild than anyone would have liked, running head first into any situation and sorting out the details later. She was the type of child to show up to a fancy event in a ripped and dusty party dress, despite her parents warnings to keep herself tidy. She’d try anything at least once, usually twice, and never stuck with anything for too long, a combination that likely kept her parents up many nights worrying.

Little changed when Harlowe got to school.

Though she considers most of her schooling to be merely a blip on the radar, there is one memory that stands out, though she doesn’t often admit it. It was a boy, of course. One who awed her with stories of his adventures and kissed her when she least expected it and understood her family situation.

But then he disappeared and she was still stuck at school and he never came back.

Upon graduation, she took off herself, travelling the world, working odd jobs until she could make enough money to move on, never staying in one place longer than half a year or so. She still didn’t know what she wanted, but she knew that the transient lifestyle was getting old. Maybe it was time to start settling down. So she headed back to London and rented a flat. She wasn’t sure what she was going to do from there, but that was part of the fun, wasn’t it?

Roleplay:
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character:

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:
Harlowe hated job hunting. Really, really hated it.

You would think with the number of jobs she’d had in her life, that she would be used to the process by now and that she’d have it down to an art form. But in so many of the jobs she had worked, they just fallen into her lap. She’d wandered into a bar and they happened to need a bartender, that sort of thing. But actually job hunting sucked, and it seemed that was what she was going to have to do now that she was back.

Having filled out what seemed like a million and a half applications that day, Harlowe was tired. She could have gone on a bit longer, but the lure of her bed and a cup of tea was too much for her to resist. Plus, her feet hurt.

She was turned the corner, about halfway home, when a voice caught her attention.
“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!”

She spun quickly, heading towards the voice, which turned out to belong to a woman who was sprawled on the ground. Harlowe glanced over the woman quickly.

"You mean your foot is broken?" she asked, just a little panicked. She had done many things in her life, but she was definitely not a healer. She did not know what to do if this woman had a broken foot.

Then she caught sight of her shoe. Right.

"Can I see?" she asked, nodding towards the shoe. Not that she knew how to fix shoes either, but perhaps there was some way they could rig it so that this woman could at least get herself wherever she needs to go. She was pretty sure she had something in her bag that would work.

"I'm Harlowe, by the way," she said, offering the girl a smile.
