Biography:
There was a precedence set in the family, long foretold by a trusted seer that each first born child was to be a boy, strong and healthy to carry on the family name in both fortune and future. In this regard, from her first breath of life Spencer Nox was a disappointment to her parents.

Edwin and Octavia Nox had been prepared for the birth of a male heir, everything was prepared, right down to his name, his mother’s maiden name, homage to the strong lineage married in; and so, with the screaming, failing limbs of a child in front of them. They kept the name, they kept the ideals, she would do, in the meantime, unless she was replaced.

Seer after seer had been consulted through Spencer’s life, not to see if she would amount to anything, nor for enquiry as to her health but for two questions. Would she embarrass the family this year? When would the rightful heir to the Nox family arrive? Appearances were important and as Spencer grew, it became more and more apparent of her place as simply a placeholder in the family tree. Nonetheless, however, she was expected to upkeep appearances, maintain the obligation to the family name and behave in what was deemed an acceptable manner. Do not speak unless it was absolutely required, lest she say something damaging. She must look composed and clean at all times, you never knew who was watching. As a little girl Spencer was micromanaged by her mother and house elven until reprieve came for only a moment.

In the year she was ten, prepared to turn eleven, the owls above seemed to offer little Spencer two gifts. A letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, expected, of course. Secondly, reprieve came in the swell of her mother’s belly and the growing excitement of a baby to come. This one, would be the heir they wanted. This one would be the child to lead them into the next, strong generation of power.

Thus, with the upcoming birth of her brother Ridley Edwin Nox, and the ability to temporarily put some distance between herself the watchful eyes of her mother and staff, Spencer began to find balance and most importantly – her voice. Only to realize that impossible expectations don’t just disappear as the family grows.

House Request:Slytherin

Personality:

Spencer a bright girl, who in her mid-teen years is beginning to break out of the idea that she should be seen and not heard. She is beginning to find the joy in arguing, although she’s still working on how to stand up for herself and places far too much value in the opinion of others. She is a very driven girl, looking to succeed as much as possible, and to make her parents finally notice her as more than a mistake. As she grows Spencer is finding that she is willing to do whatever it takes to get to the place in life where a seer does not need to ask if she will be an embarrassment of the family, to where the Nox name is known for her and her strengths instead of the shame of her birth.

Appearance:

Spencer is tall for her age and a little awkward with her height. She’s not yet worked out how to move with it, and feels like every time she finds her bearings, she grows a little more. She has dark hair, kept long per her mother’s instructions and caramel skin which has been passed down through the threading of a powerful bloodline into the family tree some time ago, sought for their skills despite discontentment at their appearance.  Her complexion is a source of worry for Spencer, as her mother always wishes that she looked a little more like an English rose.

Appearance in general is something Spencer finds herself taking pride in whether she wants to or not, before leaving the dorms she checks twice that she is well put together and follows the family believe that looks is an essential key to success.

Option 2:

Herbology was not Spencer’s greatest strength, she didn’t see the worth in growing and tending to a garden when someone else could feasibly do it in her place. Money was there to buy the things you did not want to do yourself. Besides, it was not as if she needed to grow her own plants in Herbology as a means to utilising them and passing in Potions - not that she cared much for that class either. So, the young woman floated through the class without a lick of enthusiasm or desire to push herself and succeed. The flowers were pretty but that was the extent of her opinion in that area of magic. It went well, until the Professor had decided that she needed to do an extra project to make up for her general lack of participation. Complete the project or her mother and father would be notified.

Spencer had not been happy, but since her parents were yet unaware of what they would consider a complete failing - whether they placed importance in the class or not - she begrudgingly agreed to this last chance. Letters had been piling up from mother anyway, each one more aggrieved than the last, and so it was best to avoid the possibility of a howler.

Now her evening was spent staring at flowers and charting her observations on their growth patterns and the effect of the humidity in the greenhouses. Not a good alternative to sitting in the common rooms and listening to the chatter and gossip from the week. Spencer liked keeping up with the lies and stories of the castle, some things were just useful to know.

She scrawled a near illegible word on her parchment and then folding it over, stuffed it in her pocket and traipsed around the corner. As she did so, someone sneezed, so close and so loudly that before she could help herself, the girl gagged.

Head turning and body following soon after she laid eyes on the boy in the flowerbed, scurrying around for something. Spencer’s nose crinkled and her tongue pressed to the roof of her mouth as he wiped his nose on his robes.

Dark eyes rolled at the tone of his voice, and the sound of his clogged head. If she woke up sick in the morning, she might actually hunt him down and curse his earlobes to reach the floor. Illness was not an option. “It’s also not polite to spread your germs and wipe snot everywhere.” Her eyes travelled over the boy, her tone sharp. “Downright disgusting, actually. Haven’t you ever heard of a handkerchief?”
