I didn't realise Robert was intersex; that is the coolest thing! I just had a read through; his story is amazing!

I'm definitely writing up a trans* character, I'm in the process of trying to work out the specifics at the moment! :)

Hey Felix, I'm going to add onto this, since my own character doesn't fall on the spectrum of male or female, though he identifies as male. Robert was born intersexed, and has struggled with hiding not only this secret of his gender, but his own sexuality as well. It was much more a challenge when he was a student, and he wasn't talented with spells, as Izzy suggested. Now he's able to transfigure himself as a male, so there's less worry than when he was younger.

I can point you to Robert's profile if you wanted to get a gist of language and description that would be considered site appropriate. I think it'd be easy for you to play a trans character and stay without our guidelines! I'd love to see a character fit into the time period as well, it'd definitely be really awesome!

Hey there!

Thank you :) I think you more or less just confirmed what I thought! That being said; it didn't occur to me the possibility of spells being used to assist with the passing as male or female... although I'm sure it would have eventually!

I'll most definitely get to some character planning and development, I think, and will keep in touch with admins. :)

Thanks again! That's all from me for now, I promise :3

Hey there Felix!

This is a really interesting question. We do have a number of characters who don't identify as straight (and a handy guide to how sexuality was handled in our time period here on the summer board). I don't think we've ever had an explicitly transgendered character on the site, though.

I think the PG-13 rating would affect this topic the way it would anything else that was a more mature theme: it just has to be treated in an appropriate way. So as you said, that means vague references to any physical procedures and probably more a focus on mental state - what's it like to adjust to thinking or feeling like a member of the opposite sex? Were any magical spells used in the transition to change the more obvious features, like hair or voice?

If this is something you're interested in pursuing, definitely feel free to keep in contact with the admins over PM - we'd be happy to work with you to help figure out a site-appropriate way to play whatever type of character you'd like. Personally, I think this would be a really fascinating way to explore some of those period-relevant stereotypes!

Hi again, sorry to bother everyone again. I'm just all full of ideas and questions at the moment! I can barely contain myself and my imagination.

I was just wondering if there are any trans*gendered characters played on the boards at all; the 1940s were an interesting (and dangerous) time historically for people of LGBTQ background, so I'm thinking about going there, in a time appropriate manner :P I guess I was just wondering if it had been done yet.

Also, in regards specifically to this topic, how would the PG13 rating affect this? Obviously no direct reference to genitalia in detail or anything like that, but does anyone have any other ideas? Personally my view is that LGBTQ people are part of life, but some places have restrictions on what it's appropriate to expose children to. (This being said, I'm fairly certain this isn't one of those places in this case.) I think maybe those past few sentences might be kind of moot now.

Oh well.

Any thoughts/helpful insight? :)

Thanks!
