THE CHAUCER FAMILY.
"wisdom without guile."

Thought to have been established around 900 BCE, the Chaucers are one of the older pureblood families in wizarding Britain. Though their origins are unclear, it's thought that the first core group of Chaucers migrated from the French Flanders in around 1100 and landed somewhere in southern England; possibly what is now London.

Through history they have been thought of as rather crafty, as they have in nearly every situation preferred to settle themselves behind the scenes, and work from there: there have been several Chaucers who have served as Senior Undersecretaries to the Minister, and even in the royal court of various British monarchs. They were also known through the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth centuries as the bookkeeper purebloods, because many families entrusted the logistical workings of their respective fortunes to sharp Chaucer eyes-- they were shrewd, and occasionally criticised for their tough but fair policies: during the scandal which brought down the Thorne family in the 1500s, it was the Chaucer family who divvied up their fortune, lands, and titles, going so far as to claim some of it for themselves.

Perhaps their most noted aspect, however, is their relationship to the Ellwood-Luxe family. Having been intimately acquainted since literally the beginning of the Ellwood-Luxe line, their relationship has been the subject of gossip for years. The Chaucers did keep books for the Ellwood-Luxes for a number of decades, and were instrumental in the acceptance of the Ellwood-Luxes by the wider aristocratic wizarding community at large-- but many people have taken this closeness in the wrong way, thinking them guilty of mutual nepotism, or else leeching off one another in some way.

Despite all of this, however, the Chaucers and the Ellwood-Luxes remain close to this day.

The modern line of Chaucers are considerably more liberal than their predecessors. They have come to be known for their philanthropy and patient kindness, having hands in several charities, and are primary beneficiaries of a lesser school of magic, located in Norfolk, called Blackhill Wood. They tend to dislike the concept of blood purity and elitism.

As a whole, the Chaucer family values wisdom, deep thought, dedication, and a love for one's family. They are most often sorted into Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, though the most recent generation has seen several Slytherin members.

PAGEFIELD HALL.
norwich, england.

note: because of their nuances and importance to my wider plots, I require that anyone who wishes to play a main branch Chaucer have been on the site for at least a term. forgive my selectivity. xoxo.

there are 5 available pagefield chaucers.

LUCULLUS CHAUCER • available

          ↳ 50 - head of family - alex pettyfer
Known for his patient kindness, it has perhaps been his time as patriarch that has brought the Chaucers into their golden reputation. A former Ravenclaw, he prefers to reason things through and hear all sides before coming to a conclusion, instead of passionately jumping to one.

ADELIA CHAUCER (née Ellwood-Luxe) • available

          50 - lady - emmy rossum
The only daughter of Apollinarius Ellwood-Luxe, Adelia is also the sister of the late Marcellus Ellwood-Luxe, and a former Gryffindor. She shares her husband's patience but not his passiveness, and has little fear in speaking her mind; however, it's largely her influence that's given the family their philanthropic edge. She adores her children, and grandchildren, and has never ascribed to the elitist ideals of her family.

LUCIEN NEMO MAXEN CHAUCER • taken

          27 - heir - jackson rathbone
If Lucien seems cold, or distant, it's because he hasn't farmed enough information from the situation to feel comfortable enough to speak about it. He operates almost exclusively on logical paths, very rarely following what could be called a "gut feeling." Was a hatstall between Ravenclaw and Slytherin, to which the latter won out, at his request, so he could be with his cousin Cassius. Is predictably close with him. Is very happily married to Aislin O'Shae, head of the matriarchal Irish O'Shae family.

LOTHARIUS MICA CHAUCER • taken

          25 - intellectual - luke worrall
Like his older brother Lucien, Lo bases his decisions soundly in logic, but is rather more diplomatic than him. Lotharius dislikes being touched, and rather dislikes people in general, but contrarily knows exactly how to behave in any given situation. This can likely be attributed to how observant he is. A former Slytherin, and elder twin to Lucretius.

LUCRETIUS ALECTO CHAUCER • taken

          25 - ballet instructor - luke worrall
If Lotharius is the head, then Lucretius is the heart. He has never been good at hiding his emotions, and even worse at lying. Lu is prone to outbursts and has been known to get in fights and lash out, but he is at core a good, kind, and compassionate person; he just has little self control. Lu was a Slytherin, and then a Beauxbatons student, and then a Gryffindor. He now resides primarily in Norwich proper, working at Blackhill Wood alongside his beau, Landon.

CAMILLE MADDYN CHAUCER • unavailable

          23 - good samaritan - emily kinney
Dreamy and fey, Cammie has in her life often had her head in the clouds. She likes books about ancient myths and fantasy, and possesses a superior sympathy for others. Having been involved in the battle at Beauxbatons which closed her seventh year, she has rather recently recovered from injuries sustained there. Now, she spends some of her free time volunteering at St. Mungo's, in the Orphanage Ward. She is very fond of children. Was a Hufflepuff before she went off to Beauxbatons.

SARASEM ANGELINE C. O'SHAE • unavailable

          7 - child - unspecified
Having recently turned six, Sara is one year into her preliminary education at Blackhill Wood School of Magic, where the Chaucers have long had an influence. She is a confident child with few fears, and plainly speaks her mind whenever it suits her: her mother's child in nearly every way. Sara is learning to use her words, and would like it if Breanne would leave her alone.

BREANNE EILEEN C. O'SHAE • available

          5 - child - unspecified
Bossy and temperamental, Bree dislikes not getting her way. She is a sweet child otherwise, and very affectionate-- she likes being read to while sitting in someone's lap. As the elder twin to Cade, she spends time defending him from harm, or else lecturing him in how much of a baby he's being. Surprisingly, rarely raises her voice.

CADE LUCILIUS O. CHAUCER • available

          5 - child - unspecified
A very sensitive child, Cade is a mama's boy and a bit of a crybaby. He dislikes seeing animals be harmed (he found a dead bird once and was inconsolable the rest of the afternoon) but is very fond of riding his tricycle on the back terrace at Pagefield. Can often be found clinging to Breanne, his elder twin.

LORCAN CASSIUS O. CHAUCER • available

          3 - baby - unspecified
Lorcan was born six weeks early, and was not expected to live out the night, let alone two entire years: now nearing three, he's not the healthiest of children, but he has a lot of zeal. If he had the stamina to run, jump, climb, and ride a tricycle, he certainly would. Seems to be entranced with his newest sister, Lucretia.

LUCRETIA MERCY C. O'SHAE • unavailable

          2 - infant - unspecified
As she's still very young, her personality is still rather unclear. Although she was named for her uncle Lucretius, she doesn't seem to be showing signs of being like him in really any way: Lucretia is a curiously quiet child, and doesn't often cry. Likes being around cats.

PENNINGTON HOUSE.
norwich, england.

there are 4 available pennington chaucers.

DAMIEN FRANCISCO CHAUCER • available

          43 - ministry - sam claflin
Hard working and stern, Damien is Lucullus' younger brother. He is rather less soft than his elder brother, and is a diplomat for the Ministry-- he is fluent in French and Italian, and isn’t so bad at German. Former Ravenclaw. Hobbies and personality negotiable.

ELIZABETH ROSE CHAUCER (née Mercier) • available

          41 - socialite - sophie dahl
A thoroughly modern woman, or at least thinks she is. She loves to gossip, but she has found herself lately using her gift of gab to benefit other worthy institutions: she's become an outspoken advocate for Muggleborns and Extraordinaries, perhaps following her sister-in-law Adelia's example. Former Slytherin. Hobbies and personality negotiable.

GENEVIEVE  LUCIANE CHAUCER • available

          24 - socialite - emilie de ravin
Nitpicky and above all fashionable, Genevieve is known to be a little bit snobbish-- a fact that her youngest sister Myrtle never lets her forget. She has a quiet dream to become a performer. Former Slytherin. Hobbies and personality negotiable.

ERMENGARDE FRANCINE CHAUCER • unavailable

          23 - pretty princess - ginta lapina
"She thinks very highly of her own intelligence although she is a fool, and therefore allows just about anybody who can flatter complete control over her body and mind. She is indecisive (really doesn’t do anything without someone in a position of power to convince her it’s good), somewhat weak: there aren’t too many redeeming traits out there, but one of the few is her steadfast honesty - although that may or may not be a matter of lack of tact - and that she works very hard to reach her goals, whatever they may be." Former Gryffindor.

MYRTLE JESSAMINE CHAUCER • available

          14 - student - isobel meikle-small
Being so much younger than her two sisters has given Myrtle a peculiar gift of foresight-- not literally, of course, but she feels that she knows what steps she can take to avoid becoming as vapid as Genevieve and Ermengarde, whom she loves but thinks to be rather daft. Possible Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff. Hobbies and personality negotiable.

OPHELIA MAE CHAUCER (née Duke) • available

          36 - socialite - vanessa axcente
Posh, conservative, and private, Ophelia tends to shy away from spotlight. She loves poetry and literature, and once won an award in short-form fiction. Former Ravenclaw. Hobbies and personality mostly negotiable.

AQUILA ALEXANDER CHAUCER • available

A force of nature. Doesn't like being told no. Confident, intelligent, and vain. Loves dueling. Possible Slytherin. Personality, FC, and hobbies mostly negotiable.
