Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Clara Hazel Fawe

Birthday: March 7th, 1941

Hometown: Keighley, West Yorkshire, England

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): Third or Fourth

Biography:
Clara is the youngest of three children. Her two older brothers, Jasper and Oliver, always tended to form their own dynamic duo with her sitting on the sidelines cheering them on. She hardly minded as she doesn’t generally strive to be the center of attention in any way. In fact she almost enjoys being overshadowed by her older, rowdier siblings, as long as she feels accepted by them for being more of a bystander. The dynamics of the wider Fawe family are a bit less harmonious. Her father Urban Fawe is descended from one of the oldest Gypsy families in England and though he was never raised within that culture, pieces of their history follow and haunt him still. Clara’s grandparents on her father’s side are an influential force in her life, especially her grandfather who has always been the most encouraging of her interest in Romani culture and divination. In contrast, her mother Margot is descended of a more traditional magical family who are not always shy about their distrust of the wandering, caravan lifestyle of Urban’s ancestors.

Over the years the rift between the two families has contributed to the strain on their marriage and the year before Clara was to start school her parents finally separated. Though it hasn’t been easy she copes with the change mainly through escaping to her imagination, and when that is not an option reacts to each situation in the way she thinks she is expected to. She sometimes seems a different person when in the company of her grandparents versus her mother’s family, something that her brothers have noticed and chalked up only to her being a fickle little girl. On the trip to Diagon Alley just before Oliver began school, Clara was able to convince her father to buy her a pet raven instead of an owl, which she named Baxt - the Romani word for luck or fortune. He hasn’t brought her much of either though, more often causing chaos or thieving shiny objects, but is intelligent and affectionate enough to get away with pretty much everything.

Her first few years at Hogwarts have done little to dissuade her from the strangeness that most people find off-putting. Whether or not they feel similarly, Clara believes she’s made many friends both in her own house and outside of it. Sometimes she has trouble remembering their names, or mixes up where she knows people from, but that certainly doesn’t mean she appreciates them any less! As she’s grown her desire to fit in is becoming even more obvious, and these days she is extremely sensitive to the increasing amount of peer pressure she’s exposed to.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality:
Almost without exception, the initial reaction to Clara is that she is… odd.  Between her eagerness and innocently playful language, her often empty expression, and the way she never seems to follow a conversation, she comes off as not only strange but downright dumb. She is actually very emotional and perhaps a bit too quick to cry, but does very obviously enjoy things that are fun if she can get out of her head long enough.  Strangely, though she seems to never be paying attention, Clara picks up a lot from her surroundings. She has a tendency to retain information without knowing how it fits in with anything else. Even so she is a terrible listener and seems to drift in and out of conversations. Her mind runs rampant in the dark, where there’s no sight to anchor her in reality and reassure her there isn’t something lurking just a meter away.

Anyone who bothers to spend much time with her will definitely find her to be two-faced. She has a strong desire to fit in, in whatever situation or friend group that she finds herself, which leads her to change almost everything she tells people about herself on a daily basis. If you tell her you like quidditch, she loves quidditch. But tomorrow when a different gaggle of girls is lamenting on how all the boys spend way too much time on broomsticks she will laugh and tell you how silly it is to spend all day throwing, hitting, or chasing a ball around. Probably the most off-putting aspect for most people is her obsession with divination. Her uniquely vivid imagination seeds her mind with ‘visions’, which she steadfastly believes are real predictions. In order to prove her talents to herself and everyone else, Clara takes every opportunity to tell people exactly what’s going to happen to them that day. Annoyingly, these predictions very rarely come true.

Appearance:
The first thing most people notice about Clara is her hair. She is notorious for ignoring it until it becomes a massive mess of blonde curls and waves trailing down to her mid back. If you can see past that she has generally soft features; a small but broad nose and pale hazel eyes. Though she has a very expressive face it more often than not appears blank as she frequently gets lost in thought, giving her an almost vacant appearance. Clara holds herself small but is average in stature, perhaps a little more sturdy than some girls but still thin. Her wardrobe ranges considerably, though she does tend to more earth-tones and small intricate patterns when not in school robes. Frequently she is adorned with loads of necklaces and bracelets, enough that her approach can usually be heard before she’s seen. She also has some traditional Romani skirts that had been gifted to her by her grandfather and wears them proudly.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare.”

The red began bleeding into every corner of her vision. Crimson clouds, scarlet stones, even rosy round faces of passing students. Clara wasn’t actually looking at any of it though; the scenery and characters were in her mind. All of her attention was on the flowers.

Moving only with a breath of wind at first she lost herself to the light swaying of those vibrant petals. Though she wasn’t aware of it Clara’s body also tilted to and fro almost in time to the natural rhythm. Maybe a beat or two behind. Until suddenly the red rippled violently and then was crushed beneath a booted foot and she blinked as her body stilled.

Red was replaced by a world full of much duller colors. Browns and grays and muted greens. A boy was stooping down over the trampled mass of flowers and seemed to be shouting at them.

Clara had just took a dazedly curious step forward when he straightened sharply and locked her in his gaze. His frosty expression reminded her of her brother Oliver’s when he had occasion to be annoyed by her. “Can I help you with something? It’s not polite to stare.”

Pale hazel eyes taking a moment to light with something akin to embarrassment she finally opened her mouth, snapping her lips back together once before she was able to speak. “The flowers didn’t mind me staring, I don’t think. But I can’t ask them now,” she deduced sadly, glancing to the ground beneath his feet.

She lives in her head so much that it can be difficult for her to separate daydreams from reality. This has led her to a strange and erroneous conclusion that she has the talents of a Seer, and she takes every opportunity to make 'predictions'. Along with this she is a terrible listener and seems to drift in and out of conversations. Strangely, though she seems to never be paying attention, Clara picks up a lot from her surroundings. She has a tendency to retain information without knowing how it fits in with anything else. Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

It had been a very long morning, going over all of her recent visions with her dear grandfather. The grizzled wizard was the only one who seemed to have any faith in her budding abilities but that was enough for Clara. There was no doubt in her mind that the things she saw and felt were meaningful; she just needed a more experienced mind to help her in deciphering them. And what better mind was there than her Romani ancestor, who had taught her all she knew of reading signs and omens, who kept her connected to the Seer blood in her veins? Someday she would prove to more than just him.

Beneath the pale blue of the sky her fluffy golden hair whispered this way and that in the slight breeze while her raven cawed overhead, following her slow walk through the park. Aside from his lazy call the only thing echoing in her mind were the predictions she was trying to interpret. The various shapes and colors and scents and sounds that could spell either fortune or disaster. So she didn't hear anyone addressing her, and certainly didn't see anyone as her vision came only from her inner eye, not the ones staring blankly from her round face.

Not until Baxt beat his wide wings and alighted on the end of an upturned broom did she blink back to the world around her. "Strange tree," she commented as if speaking to her bird directly. The creature flapped and seemed to complain until Clara recognized that there was a young girl directly next to that 'tree'. "Oh! Not a tree. Or, not anymore at least," she commented about the wooden broom, with an expression that seemed neither friendly or hostile, rather almost vacant. A breeze pushed fluffy hair around and nearly into her mouth as she continued. "I wonder if it's happy it can fly now, after being rooted for so long."
