Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Garret Walter Rynne was born on May 10th 1918 to a Muggle family living in London during the Great War. Unfortunately, Garrett was separated just 9 days later during a bombing raid where he was being watched by a neighbor when the last rounds of German airships passed overhead. With the chaos of post-war England, Garrett was cared for by the neighboring family for the first year of his life until the wife fell ill and passed leaving her children, Garrett along with them, to be split among any last living relatives seeing as their father had never returned. Rett had gone along with one of the young girl’s from the family to the United States to live with a distant aunt. There he lived for a year, until the Fall of 1920, before the aunt found out he was not biologically part of her family. Despite being able to care for the lad, she was unwilling with four of her own mouths to feed so he was handed over to an orphanage run by the Catholic church in Boston, Mass. There he stayed until age six among other non-magical children who had also been orphaned due to the tragedies of World War I. His shy and withdrawn nature meant he often was left behind by his peers or bullied by the older children who had been in the orphanage much longer than he had. The Nuns that cared for the children adored the young boy and he found himself trailing behind one in particular, Sister Cynthia. She spoke softly to the boy and taught him how to read and write, talked to him about her day and he occasionally would sit with her in the chapel while she prayed.

Rett’s fourth year (Age 6, 1924) at the orphanage would be his last. During an argument with a boy who made it his mission to antagonize young Garrett, he finally snapped and exploded on the bully. While playing quietly outside by the swings, the older boy approached Garrett and began his daily torment. As the older boy kicked and spit on Garrett, he raised his hands to protect his head and felt an intense heat burn under his skin that grew with each kick and jab the boy hit him with. His emotions drew out his first magical awakening, blasting the boy backwards into the swingset. None of the adults had seen and assumed he had fought back and pushed him off of the swings resulting in a broken arm. Unable to explain it himself, the Nuns had shut him away from the others, only Sister Cynthia bringing his meals having been the only one unafraid to speak to him. The others claimed to feel a ‘strangeness’ about the boy. Shortly after the incident however, a woman showed up and before he knew it Sister Cynthia was helping pack a small trunk of things he had collected at the orphanage, mostly second-hand clothing and a book Sister Cynthia gifted him one Christmas.

From then on Garrett’s life changed for the better. The woman who had come and carried him away from the orphanage welcomed him into a whole new world. On their way to Garrett’s new family, the woman gave him crumbs of information of what she did for a living and why she was taking him away. She mentioned how he was special but it hadn’t been clear until he was being greeted by an older, rather odd looking couple who lived in a funny looking home just outside of Boston. The Rynne family had chosen to adopt the boy despite being well on in their years. They had two older children that had already been to school, graduated, had careers and even their own children. Here Garrett learned of his magical abilities and a world that had been completely closed off to him until now. They prepared him for his first year at Ilvermorny and were a loving family to the boy. Still, Rett felt a hole somewhere in the pit of his stomach and was always unable to understand what was eating at him. Trying to assume it was simple due to his anxiety over this new world and if he would survive or be any good at it, he pushed it from his mind until his second year at Ilvermorny. His first year had been smooth sailing but second had resulted in more frequent fights and arguments with his peers. His grades were starting to waver and some of his Professors were sending concerned letters home about his lack of attention, discipline and attitude overall. The Summer after Garrett’s second year at Ilvermorny resulted in an owl dropping off a curious letter claiming some relative had been dredged up back in England that was now wanting to care for the boy. Winnifred had been crushed at the news but worried Garrett would lose his chance to be with his own family and unsure about his life with her and what could happen should she hold him back and he grow to resent them, she agreed to his hopeful request to be sent back to his homeland.

Keeping his adoptive parent’s last name, Garrett met with his newfound distant relative, some sort of lengthy family tree discussion to link him to a very peculiar but kindhearted old woman who was somehow a cousin of his mother’s mother… so and so. There he lived in Burnsall, Yorkshire and began to attend Hogwarts School from his third year until graduation. Here he found himself able to fit in a little more with his peers than he had in Ilvermorny, though his Muggleborn past stood in his way with many of his social opportunities. Living with his Muggle guardian had also stemmed a bitter stigma that loomed over the boy while at school. Regardless, Garrett did his best and flourished at Hogwarts. He excelled in many of his classes, mainly Potions, Charms, and Care of Magical Creatures. While others such as Divination and Astronomy still left him skeptical and behind in grades. Hufflepuff had treated him far better than his housemates back in Ilvermorny and helped to cultivate his kind nature. While at Hogwarts, Garrett took advantage of playing Quidditch for his house and partook of other social events wanting to be sure to cram in as many experiences as he could.

After graduation, Garrett spent some time travelling when his guardian had passed of old age. He returned to the United States to live with the Rynne family once more who gladly accepted him back, Winnifred basically baking any dish she could in celebration and inviting all of their magical community to join. Garrett felt drawn to help out the non-magical world having been born of Muggle parentage having learned his own father had been in military service back in England. He signed on happily to the United States Air Corps in 1936, part of him excited for the chance to pay homage to his biological father and also following along with some of his Muggle companions. Little did he know of the looming dangers with WW2 on the horizon not too long after. Rett served until after the war and retired in 1947. The war had taken its toll on Garrett and for a time he lived quietly and alone, detached from both of the worlds he felt constantly torn between.

Upon the passing of Winnifred and Walter Rynne, Garrett pulled himself from his state as a recluse at the request of an old friend from Ilvermorny who had heard of an opportunity at MACUSA. Garrett spent some time working as an Auror in New York City, his time in the USAAC/AF having served him well and prepared him for such a job. His ability to think beyond magical means had been a strength where others had seen it as a weakness. He could anticipate things that often the Wizarding community might not think of when chasing Dark Wizards who may be more aware of the Muggle/No-Maj world. Still, a hole sat in Garrett’s chest once more and he found the job to not be as fulfilling as he needed. After a couple of years as an Auror in the US, he found himself traveling once again and this time back to the Ministry. A trip to his old orphanage had blossomed a thought in his mind and he felt called to help in the same way he had been as a young boy. Returning to England, Rett now is making inquiries at the Ministry to help children from similar circumstances as his own.. Hopefully healing wounds even he did not know he had been carrying.

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:
Diagon Alley had been one of the few places Garrett could always return to and be surprised while people watching. Often he made it a point to sit outside one of the tea shops and enjoy his days listening to passing conversations or watching the world pass him by. What else was there to do while you were waiting to hear back about a Ministry job? Emerging from one of the shops, Garrett held a brown bag filled with baked goods in one hand and held the door for a prospective customer. He gave a nod as the woman slipped inside past him and let the door shut behind her. The noise of Diagon Alley never got old either. Clacking of shoes on pavestones, arguments over prices, gossip whispered louder than the busybodies realized, and the yelling of- Garret paused. Yelling? Frantic yelling at that. He was used to hearing a mother calling after her child or men fighting about one thing or another but this sounded different than just another day out.

Rolling closed the bag of goodies he held, Rett’s eyes swept around the people in front of him. None of them seemed to be calling out. In fact most of them were passing rather quickly and unaffected it seemed by the cry for help. Muggles… Wizarding folk. They all could be the same when it came to situations like this. There was a time when people would reach out and help one another… Garrett felt as if that time had long passed. As the crowd cleared slightly, his green stare caught sight of the culprit. A woman looked to be bent over herself and fussing with her shoe? He couldn’t be sure… best to get a closer look.

“Are you alright?” Excusing himself past an elderly witch who was clutching a writhing bag, no time to consider what that was about... Garrett bent over the woman and tried to assess the situation. “Here-” He offered his free hand to the woman realizing her shoe looked to be broken. Should she take it he would help her to her feet at least so she wasn’t left stooping in the muck.
