Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:
Holden Perry

Birthday:
15 March TBD

Hometown:
born in London, England; raised in Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Bloodline:
Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two):
Slot him into a year that needs some students.

Biography:
Holden's mother was six months pregnant when she fled her home in Northern England. She hadn't even known she was pregnant until the fifth month as she wasn't in any type of serious relationship. While the signs were there, she just refused to believe that it was possible until she felt the first kick.

She spent the next month doing everything she could to hide the pregnancy from her parents. They were traditionalist, so the fact that she was pregnant without being married was not going to go over well should they find out. She bought some bigger clothes (of course her belly would start to swell at an alarming rate at this point) and saved every last penny she could from her waitressing job for the next month. Then, in the middle of a night, without a word she disappeared.

She fled south, to London. It would be an easy place to just blend in and not be found as there were so many people. The money she had saved was enough to afford her a one-bedroom flat on the third floor of a run-down apartment building. It wasn't much, but it would suffice for now. She needed to find a job, and she needed to decide what the future of her and her baby would be.

In no time, it was time for baby Holden to be born. What his mother hadn't planned on was the fact that her past would meet her present when she went to the hospital to deliver. One of her classmates was completing his residency program at the hospital in London. While she didn't dive into specifics with him (she avoided almost all of his questions at all cost), she just couldn't chance the fact that word might reach home of her whereabouts. The moment she was about to check-out, a bag was packed with a few outfits for her and Holden, and they found themselves headed to America on a ship.

Destination? Boston, Massachusetts, though she didn't much care where they were headed as long as she was anywhere that she wasn't known. It took her a bit to get settled and start adjusting to being a mother, but in all of the rushing about (and the fact that she was a first-time mother) there were a few things big things that she didn't pick up on about Holden.

The first thing was that baby Holden didn't cry. Well, he did, but his cry wasn't very audible. It was barely a squeak. It struck her as odd, but she thought that she was just good at picking up on his cues so that he didn't have much of a chance to actually cry.

The second thing that she didn't pick up on was the fact that Holden didn't respond to the sound of her voice. For the fact that he was a baby, it wasn't really all that obvious. When he was about six months old, that's when she truly noticed it for the first time. She had made friends with another young, single mother in the shelter they had been staying in who had a baby about the same age. They way her daughter cooed and smiled when her mother talked to her was something she had never seen from Holden. He only responded to the sight of her, never the sound of her voice.

The doctor she took Holden to told her some news that she wasn't ready to hear. Holden was a deaf-mute. She was young. She was inexperienced at being a mother. She didn't have the help of her own mum as there was no way that she was telling her parents that she had a baby out of wed-lock. So she did the only thing she figured she could do ...

... she left Holden on the front steps of an orphanage. Since she knew he couldn't cry, she knocked on the door and disappeared into the shadows, only lurking until she was sure that he had been taken inside. A small note notified the orphanage of his name and his condition, and nothing else.

House Request:
Up to you!

Personality:
It likely comes as no surprise that Holden’s favorite thing to do for fun is to read. There’s not many things that he can do that doesn’t require listening skills in order to enjoy (i.e., listening to music, watching movies, etc). Holden is a very quiet boy, and it’s not just because he’s mute. He prefers to go unnoticed, so remaining quiet is the best way to do that.

Appearance:
Holden has unmistakable bright red hair, with hundreds of freckles adorning his face. He is on the small side for his age, being both underweight and short in height. While Holden does his best just to blend into his surroundings, it’s a little difficult when your physical features are screaming “look at me”. Obviously, Holden is unaware when people are talking about him, but it doesn’t make him any less subconscious none-the-less. His worst enemy is the voice inside his head (the only one he can hear).

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Option 2:
That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

He had never been the “early to bed, early to rise” types of people, but he had been feeling a bit too tired the night before and retired to bed early. Unfortunately for him though, that meant that way too early he had woken up and couldn’t fall back to sleep. He had decided to take a leisurely walk around the castle grounds. It was time for breakfast though, so Holden opened the doors to the castle…

… and out came running a rat. Rats around the castle weren’t an unusual site. Many students had them as pets and the fact that a fifth-year boy came out after him, the rat was likely trying to run free from his owner. It was Holden’s fault that the rat had gotten outside. He was the one that had opened the door. Before going to grab breakfast, he better help the boy find him.

Holden was on his hands and knees in some red flowers when the other boy grabbed a section of the flowers near him. Perhaps the boy wasn’t after the rat after all, but was after the boy who had let him out. Holden ducked a bit farther back into the bed of flowers and watched the boy as he let out a sneeze. Had he been able to talk, Holden’s manners might have gotten the best of him and announced his whereabouts to the other boy.

As the boy wiped his nose on his sleeve, Holden saw this as his attempt to escape. He stood up and was about to make a run for it when he saw the boy was trying to talk to him.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Holden didn’t know who the boy was, and it was obvious that the boy didn’t know who he was either or else he wouldn’t have wasted his breath trying to talk to Holden. Holden wasn’t sure what to say, or how to say it in a way that the boy would understand so he just signed ‘I’m sorry.’

He wanted to run away, into the comfort of the castle and where he could blend in with the rest of the hundreds of students, but found that his feet felt like a ton of bricks.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:
Sawyer Pennifold

Birthday:
1 September 1936

Hometown:
Hogsmeade

Bloodline:
Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown
(he was raised being told that he is Pureblood however)

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two):
Third/Second

Biography:
Sawyer's story actually starts five generations ago on the eve of 1 January 1837. His great-great-great grandfather George Pennifold (b. 19 January 1802 - d. 27 May 1898) has borrowed money to start a business. However, business was not as good as George had hope and he end his first year with negative profits. This didn't sit well with the man who had invested the money to help George start his business, and the man paid George a visit on New Year's Eve 1836 to tell him that the money he owed the man needed to be paid by the next day or else.

George begged and pleaded with the man for more time, but the man would hear nothing of it. Even after George sold his equipment and liquidated his business, he still didn't have enough to pay off the loan. Turning over all he had, George made on final plea to the man. What he didn't expect was the offer the man made him.

"Join my business."

See, there was a reason the man had money. He smuggled and traded items in the Wizarding underground. The proceeds from these affairs also allowed him to loan money to wizards in need, but came with a hefty interest rate. The man's business had been so good however, he needed a partner and although George had failed at starting his own business, there was something about him that the man liked.

"You'll start by paying off the money you owe me, though you can keep just enough to feed your family. If you do well, after you pay off the money owed to me, I'll name you a partner and we'll split the earnings."

George tentatively agreed, and paid off the loan in two years. The man taught him well and kept his promise to name him a partner if business was good. It was better than ever and the two of them continued to excel, the business soaring to new heights.

On 4 August 1858, a deal gone wrong lead to the man's death. As it was unexpected, the man had no will but George would also find that the man had no family. His parents were also deceased and he had no siblings, wife, or children. The entire business was now his to do with as he pleased. George was now in control and he would run this business much better than he had run the first.

Even after all these years though, George had never told his wife or family what he actually did for a living. That was all about to change however as George needed a new partner. There was no way that he would be able to handle all the monetary transactions and artifact smuggling and trafficking himself, so George called on the help of his oldest son Thomas (b. 12 May 1826 - d. 10 July 1912). Decided to drop providing loans to protect their assests, the duo focused just on buying and selling unique but highly sought after Wizarding objects. Thus began the "family business" and the tradition of calling on the oldest son join the family business upon his 18th birthday).

Joining the family business next would be Sawyer's great-grandfather Walter Pennifold (b. 28 December 1850-d. 22 September 1932) and his eldest son,Sawyer's grandfather, Anthony Pennifold (b. 17 October 1878). Philip Pennifold (b. 20 May 1898), Sawyer's father, had been the latest family member to join the family business.

What Sawyer didn't know is that his father, Philip, was actually his uncle. Sawyer's actual father was Lawrence Pennifold (b. 30 January 1906; unknown whereabouts). His mother was a Muggle named Teresa Atchison whom the family had never met. Lawrence had tainted their family's Pureblood status. Afraid that word of Lawrence's relationship with a Muggle would ruin the family's reputation and also their business, Anthony and Philip paid Lawrence a hefty sum of money to "disappear" and requested that his son, Sawyer, be turned over to Philip to raise as one of his own.

Philip never had any son's of his own, and although at the time of Sawyer's birth he was still young enough to have children, his wife was unable to carry anymore due to a medical condition. They had three beautiful daughters, but no son of which to pass down the family business. The arrival of Sawyer would change all of that though and the family swore to never tell Sawyer who, or what, he really was.

While rumors surfaced about the whereabouts of Sawyer's birth father, the rumors never really affected the family business all that much. Business continued to thrive, even more so after the events of the Time Warp and the war that followed. Wizarding family's had things to purge, things to hide, and needed money for everything under the sun and where the banks failed to grant a loan, the Pennifold's were there.

The story is so much more complicated though. You see, despite disowning Lawrence for tainting the family blood with that of a Muggle, the Pennifold's were very close friends with a Muggle family - the Graham's. The Graham's owed it to the Pennifold's however as they had gotten them out of a very sticky situation involving an inquisition by the Ministry of Magic. Always the forward-thinking man he was (he often wondered if he should have been placed in Ravenclaw than Slytherin), Philip had a genius idea placing their things in the hands of a Muggle family as it was the last place that the Ministry would think to look and the Graham's had been that Muggle family.

Despite the fact that they were Muggles, Sawyer was okay with they fact that they were family friends as they had a boy about his age whereas he only had three older sisters to play with at home. Even better than having a Muggle friend who was a boy was having a Wizard friend who was a boy though, which is exactly what Sawyer found he had in Reggie Graham one hot summer's day in 1941. Sawyer, always a little braver than he should have been, stepped a bit too far into a current and was swept away. Reggie's fear - and inherited pre-adolescent Wizarding magic (the kind he couldn't help) - saved Sawyer and secured Sawyer a best friend at Hogwarts.

All thanks to the war however, the Graham's were scared to send off their son off to a Wiizarding school they knew very little about even if the Pennifold's tried to convince them that it was the absolute safest place in England. This left Sawyer to start school by himself with out his best friend. However, this year, that was all about to change.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: I'll leave it up to the sort!

Personality: It's surprising that Sawyer doesn't suspect that he is not his father's son as he doesn't appear embody any of his father's or mother's personality traits. Where his father is street-smart, Sawyer is more book smart. He can read and retain, but he doesn't think very well on his feet or on the fly.

Thanks to his relationship with Reggie, Sawyer is also much more tolerable of Muggles and Muggleborns than the rest of his family and he's not afraid who knows it. He's not all about putting on a Pureblood front and he doesn't understand why his family puts such an emphasis on their Pureblood status and ensuring that he marries another Pureblood girl after Hogwarts.

It is also very unlikely that Sawyer knows exactly what his family's "business" entails. If he did, at his age, it would be unlikely that he would even want to join as at this age he doesn't have ambitions of grossly breaking the law. Sawyer does like a bit of adventure though, so it is possible the he would consider helping with the family business, just never wanting to run it one day. Seeing as he is currently the only boy in his generation, the future of the family business with rely upon him. Will his family eventually convince him of all the perks and benefits their lifestyle affords?

Appearance: Again, his appearance should be a dead give away that he is not his father's son, but he bears enough family resemblance that he's never give it much question and he's always been told that he was just dealt "a lot of recessive genes".

Sawyer is on the scrawny side for his age and because of this isn't largely athletic. His hair is on the longer side as well, and Sawyer likes this as it hides his face and makes it harder to tell what he's thinking.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

This was been sure a stupid dare, but Sawyer wanted to prove that he wasn't as chicken as everyone thought he was.

"Go find Emma Birch in the dungeons."

He had heard of Emma Birch, and he knew what had happened to her. Rumors were that her ghost haunted the dungeons, but he didn't believe that. How was he supposed to complete the dare of finding her though if there was no "her" to find?

So here he was, slumped against the cool castle wall attempting to figure out how he could prove to those jerks that he had looked for her but hadn't found her.

He had noticed that he'd been tapping his foot until he thought he had heard something and his hands scrambled to push down on his foot to make it stop. Apparently whatever he had heard, heard him too.

"H-h-hello?"

Surely this was not the voice of Emma Birch. If it was, he was sure that it would sound must more confident.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

Sawyer let her voice ring through the corridor while he contemplated what to do. Perhaps he should just call back and let him know that it was Emma she had heard but him. Maybe he should mess with her like the other's who reside in this area of the castle might. Perhaps this was even a set up by the very boys who sent him here for him to prove they he could be just as much of a jerk as they were for sending him here.

Figuring he should say something, anything before she left, Sawyer called out to her, "Depends. Who are you?" He likely didn't sounds like Emma Birch, but perhaps the girl might think that he was he guard or something.

Resources / THE WIKI - A How-To Guide
« on: 13/01/2015 at 01:04 »
So you want to Wiki. Good for you. We need more people like you. It's pretty simple; there are just things that you need to know and get a hang of before it starts making sense.

making a page.

The first thing you have to do before doing anything to the wiki, you have to get an account. Please open a helpdesk ticket under the wiki category, and include a valid email address and the character name you wish to use as your account name. Then, someone will be along shortly to set up your account for you! Come back to me when that's done and you've logged in.

It's done? You're logged in? Good.

Now, before you can do anything to a page, you have to first make the page. Let's take making a page for your lovely child character as an example. A hands-on, if you will.

(I'm sure you guys all know this, but humor me.)

Go to the search bar in the upper right hand corner of the wiki interface and type in your character's name exactly as you'd like to see it displayed-- proper capitalization and all.

Since there isn't a page for your character yet, there won't be any cohesive search results. There may be results relating to the name somehow, but in order to create a character page you need to click on the reddish-orangeish link that is your name. Where it says 'Create This Page.'

omg there it is.

Now that you've clicked on that link, you'll be directed to a big expanse of white blank page. And a swelling raaaage.

Like this:

What in the world do we do with this.

Because this is a character page we're creating, we're going to need to start with a template.

using premade templates.

A good way to get to know the wiki is to generally snoop around in it. Get to know the nooks and crannies. For instance, on the sidebar, toward the bottom, if you click on the link that says 'special pages' you'll get to a complicated looking page full of more links and it's just really kind of confusing. Most of the links on this page have to do with statistics, sort of, and things like that. The only link I want you to worry about at the moment is the one that says Uncategorized Templates.

For the sake of simplicity, I'll just say click here and it'll take you right to that page. You can get to know the special pages page later, if you want. It's a useful tool. You can also search for "Template:Infobox" and options will come up.

Anyway.

There are a lot of things in this list. Pretty much all you need to do is pick the template you want, click on it, copy it, and then paste it into your White Blank Page and then fill it out to your heart's content.

Since we're doing our child characters, click on Template:Infobox Child.

After you click on it, go up to the top where the blue tabs are and click View Source (or Edit).

Copy and paste the code into your White Blank Page like I said earlier, then fill out answers where you see things surrounded by the {}. If you don't fill one out, (like when your very much alive character died) no worries! It'll stay hidden until you decide to answer it later! Wha bam. Now there's something on the page.

(All of the templates can be used for your respective characters: Gryffindor template for your Gryffindor, Adult template for your Elsewhere character, Beauxbatons template for your Frenchie. Et cetera. You may also notice that there's templates for organizations and also for families. These are used in exactly the same way, except... they're for organizations and families.)

You are almost an expert.

But wait!

Don't click save quite yet. There's a couple more things you want to do.

uploading and inserting pictures.

"MERRY THERE'S A PLACE FOR AN IMAGE BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO IMAGE HOW DO I IMAGE!!!!"

Well, first, calm down. We can't do much if you're yelling.

After you're calm, refer back to the sidebar. Remember the Special Pages link in the sidebar? Don't click on that. There's a link right above it that says Upload File. Click on that instead.

I'm sure you know how to upload photos. Browse your folders as you would if you were uploading a picture to photobucket or tinypic. But wait. Before you click 'upload,' is the filename something ridiculous?

If your filename is really long or has some words you'd rather not display in public in them, you can change what you call the file on the wiki in the box that I've circled for you. Make it something simple, like Hawthorne.jpg or merry_not_sherlock.png.

Then upload it. Remember that filename. Now go back to your template in what was previously your White Blank Page. Delete all the gross symbols that aren't brackets (the ones like this: {}) and then put in your simple filename exactly as you uploaded it, all capitals etc.

Now you have a picture. Feel free to press preview to admire your work.

But wait. There's more.

text and formatting.

Now you've probably noticed that the wiki doesn't use standard HTML or BBCode. Yes, it's kind of a pain in the butt to have to learn another thing, but it gets better. I promise.

The first thing you're going to want to do is start a subject under your template, say... biography. Because every character has a story. All you need to type in to achieve this is:

Biography
We have a winner.

To create a subarticle within that subject, say to talk about your character's childhood, is just to type something like ===Childhood=== with three equal signs rather than two somewhere after ==Biography==.

So this

will become

this.

So nice and tidy, mmmm.

I'm going to just list other formatting stuff, because it's easier that way.

Bolding: Like This
Italicizing: Like This
For bullet points: * (if you need it indented, just keep upping the asterisks by one per pagebreak)
Link to another wiki page by name: Like This
Link to another wiki page: Name of Link

That last one is a little tricky. For instance, if I am trying to link to Astrid's mother's page (should she have one) but I just wanted to use the word 'mother' as the link, it would look like this:

mother

Wiki magic.

For putting photos in your articles for a little visual flavor, use this:

You'll want to change the pixel size, if it suits you better, or maybe whether you want it on the right or left of your text. This formula's really good for wraparound stuff in the middle of really long articles, and the effect can be rather nice and professional looking.

We are wizards.

The other file input without all the bells and whistles, if you just want to stick a file in somewhere, for instance, is this:

You'll want to be careful with that, though, because it doesn't resize your photo for you. What you put in is how big it's going to be.

But yay. Nearly finished. We're going in for the home stretch. Let's move on to Categories and then you can save your article.

using categories

Still with me?

Cool.

I'll start this one off by saying this: There are a lot of categories. A lot. A looooot. Because there are lots of different types of characters, and that's cool.

You can have a look here, here, and here at categories that are being used on various pages.

The ones that you need to worry about, though, have usually to do with graduating year and house, and, in this case, that you're a ghost.

As a rule of thumb, categories always look like this:

For Meriwether, the categories I've used for his page look like this:

DEFAULTSORT:Throckmorton, Meriwether

Be sure to have that break between them, or it ends up all funky! And even though we're still in the 70s, funky isn't what we want. Format is good. Disco bad.

I mean what.

Oh yeah. Don't forget the Defaultsort for your character pages. It's useful. Organizes stuff.

For Astrid, it would look sort of like this:

DEFAULTSORT:Bixby, Astrid

You can use literally any amount of categories. There are never too many categories. Layer 'em up as needed. They go at the very bottom of your article.

"MERRY WHAT IF THERE ISN'T A CATEGORY FOR WHAT MY CHARACTER DOES AHHH!!!!!"

What did I say about yelling.

Just go ahead and create it, no big deal! I've been churning out pages and categories and articles for the past six months and no one's tried stopping me yet, so I'm assuming that it's okay to do pretty much anything. Within reason and the site rating, of course. I'd say that you should check in the existing categories for one that already exists though, so you don't just create a new one unnecessarily. Be sure to check the things.

finishing up.

WHEW.

Did I kill you guys. Sorry. I love you. It's two AM.

Okay, go ahead and click the save button. It's going to ask you for an answer. The answer is hoggies.

Simple enough.

... NOW YOU HAVE A PAGE WITH STUFF ON IT, YAY. Congratulations. Mazel tov. You are now the proud owner of an article you wrote yourself.

Happy article-writing. Write ALL the things.

All the credit goes to Hannah (Dacian Ellwood-Luxe, et al) for creating this guide. Thanks baby!

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Aubrey Joy Rousseau

Birthday: December 24, 1922

Hometown: Bordeaux, France

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two):6th / 5th

Biography:
It was Christmas Eve in 1922. Emily Rousseau was in labor, and though she knew that this would be her seventh and last pregnancy she was quite ready to meet this baby who was so stubbornly coming two weeks late. She and her husband, Andrew, so desperately wanted a baby girl and in the few hours before the clock struck midnight - indicating the start of Christmas Day - the Rousseau’s were granted their Christmas wish. Joining older brothers Logan, Tyler, Caleb, Aiden and Evan (twins), and Trevor, Aubrey Joy Rousseau made her grand entrance into the world. The Rousseau’s lived in Bordeaux, France for much of young Aubrey’s life. It wasn’t until Aubrey was 7 years old that they relocated to London, England so that her dad could take a job at St. Mungo’s.

Andrew was highly regarded in the field of Potions, and began working on the 3rd floor of the hospital. Aubrey spent many-a-days at the hospital with her father, on day’s that his boss would allow her to attend, and Aubrey dreamed of the day she may be able to work at St. Mungo’s as well. Though her father had her practice many potions and she proved to be quite good at them, Aubrey’s dream was to work on the 4th floor dedicated to spell damages.

When Aubrey turned 11, she received letters from both Hogwarts and Beauxbatons. Both of Aubrey’s parents had graduated from Beauxbatons, and all of her older brothers continued attending the school even after the family relocated to England. Aubrey’s parents were set on sending her to Beauxbatons, where her older brothers could keep an eye on her. Aubrey had other ideas. She begged her parents to allow her to attend Hogwarts. While she did not question the proper training Beauxbaton’s would give her, she strongly believed that the training she needed to obtain employment at St. Mungo’s lied in the training she would receive at Hogwarts. In the end, Andrew and Emily gave in to Aubrey’s stubborn ways and sent a letter to Hogwarts notifying the school of Aubrey’s wishes to attend.

At that first sorting ceremony, the sorting hat had chosen her fate.  As the year progressed, there was no doubt that the hat had correctly chosen her house.  While keeping true to her original intentions by joining the Hospital Wing staff, Aubrey had found another activity to occupy her time; duelling.  By the end of the year, Aubrey's outlook on becoming a Healer began to look grim after she "accidently" used Wingardium Leviosa on a school professor and served detention with the old Headmistress.

In comparison, Aubrey's second, third, fourth, and fifth years were rather uneventful.  She had eventually given up her prejudices against the sport of Quidditch, and can even be found out on the pitch helping the team pass the Quaffle back and forth to win.

Aubrey had taken the last term, her OWLs term, quite seriously.  She needed to extremely well in classes and on her exams to pass.  She had cut down her extra curricular activities so much that she was only active in the Hospital Wing.  The hard work paid off, and Aubrey was extremely excited.  For one, her grades were good enough to continue with her Healer studies, but two, she could begin hanging out with all her friends again.

House Request: Gryffindor!

Aubrey had just exited the second floor girls bathroom, still visibly upset.  As she wiped another tear away from her face, she clutched the parchment she was holding in her hand even tighter.  “An A,” she thought, making herself even more upset.  An A… IN CHARMS… was not going to get her a job at St. Mungo’s.  She wiped another tear away from her face as she heard footsteps behind her.

“Hey!”  It was the voice of Astrid; the reporter who was so well-known for misquoting students and making them look bad, especially the Gryffindors (what else would you expect from a sneaky Slytherin though? “Wait up! It’s for the paper!”

“Even better,” Aubrey thought!   Wonder if the words “visibly upset” or “sulking in her sorrows” would make their way into the article.  Aubrey figured facing her would be better than the story she would make up about her crying and running away.
“What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”  Astrid questioned.

“I find it absolutely absurd that we would choose to serve an animal that students can bring to Hogwarts as pets.  It’s 11 o’clock Astrid, do you know where your frog is?”

Aubrey flashed her a smile.  While she was still upset over her grade, she couldn’t help to admit the fact that the brief interaction with the Slytherin made her feel just a little bit better.  Aubrey turned to walk away; she was going to go talk to the Charms professor about her grade.

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Irina Brin Drake
Gender: Female
Age: Tender young age of 20

Education:
It was September 1964.  Irina had just placed the soring hat on her head when it announced to the world that she was a Ravenclaw.  “Weren’t Ravenclaws supposed to be smart?” Irina thought to herself.  Maybe she was confused, like she was most of the time… so Ravenclaw it was.
Turns out, Ravenclaw was for smarty-pants.  Irina wanted nothing to do with having her nose in a book, so she relied on her housemates to get her through.  Her biggest help?  Esme.  The very person she now despised.  It was HER that stole Tim away from her… Irina couldn’t stand mentioning her name.  Their falling out in the Spring of 1970 only meant that by some miracle, Irina was able to use her wits and good looks (and some shear dumb luck) to pass her N.E.W.T.s and graduate in 1971.

Residence:
Irina recently moved an apartment in Knockturn Alley with some girls from school  She has her own room.  Seriously.

Occupation:
After school, Irina’s good looks (and lack of smarts) landed her a job with the Muggle corporation JC Penney’s.  Irina works runways around the world, modeling the latest fashions, and doing odd-job for the famous “Jacque Penney.”  While Irina doesn’t much understand the Muggle world (she slept through Muggle Studies her fifth and sixth year), the money is good and the business is better.

Special Phrase: Tibbles Beard of Power

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
It was the summer of 1952.  Cora had spent the last 9 months hiding her pregnancy from the media.  What would they think if movie star Cora Drake was knocked up, to an unknown father.  No, they already flaunted her promiscuity enough without having THAT as a front page article.  it was best for her if she hid the pregnancy.  On August 1, Irina was born.  Cora returned to work the following week.  Where it took most women months to recover from a pregnancy, it tooks Cora days.  She was Super Woman, not to mention beautiful.

Cora’s sister agreed to raise Irina, receiving $2000 a month in compensation.  Irina was raised knowing that Cora was her true mother (and who could deny it, because Irina inherited her good looks), but never understood why she had to live with Aunt Rose.  Rose sent her to an all-girls boarding school in Ireland.  Irina hated it; there were no boys to flirt with.  Getting good grades in school weren’t important; it was all about looks!  Looks would get you money, look at her mother!  Yes, someday Irina would be a movie start like her mother.

The day of her 11th birthday, Irina received a letter from a school named Hogwarts.  It was delivered by one of the professors who explained to her that she was a half-blooded witch.  Apparently her father, who would not be named for anonymity reasons, was a wizard and she inherited his magical ability.  The professor did explain that he had graduated from Ravenclaw almost 15 years prior and was the Captain (and star) of his Quidditch Team.  Irina later learned that he had gone on to become one of the best chasers the game of Quidditch had ever seen; at least until a bludger to the head landed him in St. Mungo’s.  But Irina daddy was famous too!  She was most assured destined for life in the spotlight!

Irina’s time at Hogwarts was uneventful.  She wasn’t particularly good at her classes (Esme had the brains) and she didn't take part in any extra-curriculars (those were for losers), but she did have a reputation of snogging as many boys as she could, or at least that was her goal until she met Timothy Vartan.  He had been dating Esme when they met, but she would soon win him over.  Irina was so happy with Timothy; she saw the world from a whole new perspective.  She wasn’t sure what that perspective was, but it was different.  Things were wonderful until he mentioned those words to her, “I’m going back to Esme.”  Esme now had everything… the brains and the boys, and even the looks.

ROLEPLAY
Reply as your character to the following:

It was impossible for Dianne to stay out of trouble. It wasn't that she was looking for trouble, it's just that trouble always managed to find her. Today she wished she could find something equally familiar but more comforting.

The five-year old girl hugged her puffskein closer to her and brushed her face in its soft fur for comfort. She had named him herself and he was always her special pet. No she was certain she had never gone down this side street before. Her anxiety increased every second as darkness fell as she walked down the road. A loud noise came to her left and she buried her face in her pet's fur completely. The scared girl bolted the opposite way slamming the both of them into the wall of the nearest building. Tottering back a few steps she found a door a few feet to her right and ran to open it. What light there was inside spilled out into the darkness and she spilled into the room.

Once in, she was caught between the impulse to curl her cloak up more tightly around her and loosen her grip on it. She wasn't alone anymore but she was now among strangers instead, which was nearly as terrifying. Her puffskein had recovered from the shock of the wall and now was purring contentedly as the girl hugged it, causing a mildly calming effect on the girl. Gathering her courage, she marched up to the nearest person, pulled on the nearest clothing hem and blurted out in a loud voice:

"I'm lost and it's dark and I wanted to know where I am but I'm not scared but I am worried that Sambundeakin is scared because he's little and needs something to eat and wants to go home."

She paused to draw a breath in her nearly never-ending sentence, "He misses my and his mommy."

To explain the scared girl held up the custard-colored puffskein. Sambundeakin the puffskein, however simply purred as if nothing on earth was wrong in the world.

Roleplay Response:
The girl was sort of cute, even Irina had to admit that.  Was Irina was not happy about was the the fact that the little girl tugged on her shirt so tight that it ripped.  Her $400 shirt, RIPPED!  Who cares if it was actually a gift from an agency who was trying to win her over to their side, it was still expensive!

A look of calm came over Irina’s face when she noticed how scared the little girl was.  Irina was not sure what she could do to help the girl, but she did hear one thing.  Hunger.

“Come,” Irina said to the girl. “Let’s go next door to the ice cream shoppe and grab a bite to eat.  After we fill that little belly of yours, and your dolly’s, then well discuss trying to find your mommy.  Okay?”

She may have ripped her shirt, but the little girl won her heart.

CHARACTER DETAILS
House Request:
Aubrey would probably best fit into Gryffindor.  While her character traits do not necessarily fit the “daring, nerve, and chivalry” line, her character traits of being self-confident (and slightly arrogant as well), well-grounded, and reliable could all be considered underlying traits of the Gryffindor house.  When Aubrey puts her mind to something, she will see that it gets finished regardless of how long it takes.  This makes her extremely trustworthy and responsible.  Her determination to work at St. Mungo’s someday will also make her an extremely hard-worker.

Year:  1

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Biography:

It was Christmas Eve in 1960. Joining older brothers Logan, Tyler, Caleb, Aiden and Evan (twins), and Tyler, Aubrey Joy Rousseau made her grand entrance into the world.  The Rousseau’s lived in France for much of young Aubrey’s life.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
You come across one of these three posts on the site. Please reply to one only as your character would.
*** Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not James' or Astrid's.

“Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewee – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always so elusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something, they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn’t her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She had to come back with quotes.
Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”
