Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Erich Hagan

Birthday: Nov. 4

Hometown: Eden Mills, Ontario, Canada

Bloodline: Muggleborn

Magical Strength: Charms; Erich has always been fascinated with the power and skill behind spells, especially in combat. (Friendly combat...sometimes)

Magical Weakness: Divination; Erich staunchly and stubbornly refuses to believe in spirits, or the ability to see the future.

Year (pick two): Two, Three

Biography:
Born in the small town of Eden Mills, Ontario (affectionately referred to as Nowhere City), Erich's memory of the Time Warp was very hazy. Due to the sheer population of Canada and the United States, most wizarding orphanages were too full (and sometimes too prejudiced) to take in the young, muggleborn Erich. He remembers he was flown to St. Mungo's, and met his mentor, Alistair "Al" Asher, who would take him in.

Erich remembers full well the prejudice that came with being a muggle, and after purposely being exposed to the best of wizard punk rock music by Al, Erich gained a political and societal interest in making a difference. While his stubborn, sometimes abrasive and caustic, personality often creates more problems than it solves, Erich is bent on making things fair and equal to everyone.

Erich's parents died during the Time Warp, however he does not remember much about them. He considers Al his father, and Al had been teaching Erich various small charms and spells before pulling some strings (and some money) to get Erich into Hogwarts despite being over the age of 10. Erich is ready to learn and ready to change the world, that is, if he doesn't party too much.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Gryffindor or Slytherin (up to mod discretion)

Personality: Erich Hagan believes himself to be a unique individual, against the grain, away from the crowd. A firm worshipper at the temple of punk rock, Erich prides himself on his individuality, loyalty, and music tastes. He's an outgoing introvert, never afraid to be the center of attention among friends, but shy enough to struggle at finding the words to talk to people at an individual level.

Erich works in extremes: he can be a great friend, a fun person to be around, and an undying friend (and sometimes a hopeless romantic), but he can also be very cynical; it's easy to gain his trust but hard to regain it. He abhors liars, cheaters, and thieves, unless they're working for a good cause. (ie: Steal from the rich, give to the poor.) He often has a bit of a problem with authority and dislikes being told what to do, often getting frustrated if reprimanded by an authority figure.

Erich takes a great interest in duelling, and is always looking to be the most powerful wizard he can be. He can often be found practicing his combat spells and figuring out new strategies and ideas.

Appearance: Erich is tall and built a little bigger than most people his age. He has a shaved head and thick eyebrows on a slightly pronounced brow ridge. His brown eyes are a little closer together than average, but wide with excitement and interest. He has an average sized nose that leads to a thin mouth and triangular chin. When not wearing his robes, he is known to wear t-shirts, cargo shorts, and Chucks.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Option 1 Reply:

"Incendio!"

The wooden dummy nailed to the wall in front of Erich lit up bright orange and fizzled out. Again? Come on.

"We've almost got it," Erich muttered under his breath with a sharp exhale, "Let's give it one more go. Your profs told you that you've got it down."

They didn't actually, but the mere thought of getting praised by his professors rather than admonished was enough to keep him going.

"Hello?" he heard faintly. Erich stopped. We're in for it now, he thought, we're gonna get caught again, in trouble, twenty points, the whole nine yards. He ran to a darker area of the room he was in. He faintly saw a skull in the corner.

"Wingardium Leviosa," he whispered. The skull lifted off the ground and hovered. Great. At least we've got that one.

"Is Emma Birch here?" he heard, louder. Emma Birch? Are there more people here? Time to find a new practice area. Suddenly, Erich saw a figure appear. He quickly aimed his wand.

"Stupefy!" Erich shouted. His wand fizzled and the girl jumped and turned around. Okay, there wasn't a chance in hell of that working but it was worth a shot. Erich scratched the back of his head and stared at the floor.

"Alright, listen, I've been told I'm not really supposed to be here. So if you could do me a favor and pretend you didn't see me, that would be great." Erich made his way past the girl, before stopping and turning around.

"Oh, uh, I'm not Emma Birch, either. I'm Erich. Erich Hagan. Kind of like the city in Germany. Anyways, see you later!" Erich ran up the stairs and out of the dungeon. Too close. Time to find a new place to practice. Hmm. Nobody ever uses the first floor girls' bathroom, let's give that a shot.
