Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Abraham "Abe" Lincoln Styles

Birthday: November 27th, 1936

Hometown: Derbyshire, England

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two): 3rd or 4th

Biography:
Abraham Lincoln Styles was not named after the famous American President.

His mother, Natasha, did not realize the connection until after she had assigned her squealing baby boy with the name. Abraham after his grandfather. Lincoln after his father. After all, Natasha only knew about the name because of her muggle upbringing. No wizard would be slightly aware of the connection between her son and one of America's most famous leaders.

By the time his Hogwarts letter arrived on his eleventh birthday, the entirety of his neighbourhood called him "Honest Abe". Not necessarily due to a strict code of honour or rigid righteousness as that which inspired such a title in his namesake. Rather, this Abe's honesty stemmed from an inability to keep anything to himself. If you asked him what he thought of something, he would tell you right away. If you failed to ask him what he thought of something, he told you anyway.

"Abraham Lincoln," sounded near like a curse whenever his mother or father uttered the words in response to his latest prattling.

It never phased Abe.

School life brought Abe a slew of adventures. He made friends more easily than his big brother and two big sisters had during their first year at school. Professors sent reports of him being a jovial, well-meaning classroom disruptor, but praised his assignments and classwork as being "unique" and "full of hidden depth". His best class has always been Charms (he liked the jinxes) while his worst veers dangerously close to Divination (he grossly misinterpreted the instruction to "discuss").

Nearly as soon as he was able to, he had joined his house Quidditch team. The tenacity and determination to excel on his path to becoming a professional Quidditch player impressed his Captain and fellow players, as his love for the game overrides the competitive nature of inter-house games. This has, naturally, made him popular.

And Honest Abe quite enjoys being popular.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Gryffindor or Ravenclaw

Personality: Abe has been called a "loud mouth", a "hooligan", and a "chatterbox" by most of his acquaintance on several occasions.   His professors are in a constant flux between bemusement and annoyance with him, as he tends to hide his insecurities about his classwork behind a thick veil of class clowning (often at their expense). It is not that he is unteachable. His attention span is minuscule unless the subject is Quidditch or, as he is somewhat shocked to discover, girls, who are now completely cootie-free. Though this limits his performance in classes, his intense curiosity and inner deeply philosophical musings help him succeed in his assignments (so long as he doesn't have Quidditch practice). Abe tends to be impatient and rash in his own judgements. More often than not, he will speak whatever is on his mind, something his mother has tried to smack out of him over the years. It has not made an indent. Abe wishes more people would be honest, but struggles with sometimes taking things a bit too personally. He values his freedom. He does not like to feel caged in - physically or mentally. During the school year, he can often be found exploring the grounds or poking along the borders of Hogsmeade. Adventure must be a key aspect to his life, and his near lack of tact helps him push a little further than his other friends, of which he has many. While he is not the sole leader of his group, he takes charge of situations more than he would follow. It is a trait that will grow with age. Socially, he is exceptionally popular. Abe's stellar performance on the Quidditch pitch and his easy humour have worked together to make Abe well-liked and valued by his classmates. He isn't fully capable of properly insulting anyone. No matter what he says, he says with complete honesty and naivety, without any malicious intent driving him on. The not-so-secret goal of his heart is to one day be a professional Quidditch player. It means he often spends long practices with older and more experienced students on the pitch, trying to learn as much as he can, even if they are from other houses.

Appearance: Though he is not short, his growth spurts have been steadily shrinking the hem of his trousers every few months. He prefers to keep his hair short, as any length turns him into a puffball after flying on a broom for any length of time. Quidditch keeps his lanky body surprisingly lean. When he is not wearing his school robes or his Quidditch kit, his clothes are humble but stylish. He is horrified by the fact that hair has started growing in weird and new places, most specifically his face, and tries to keep himself as clean shaven as possible to avoid a stringy beard. The most immediately noticeable thing about Abe is, typically and dependant on his location, his gigantic smile.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

He mainly just needed to get away from his Divination homework.

The professor  once asked the class to discuss the theorem behind some divine right or law or something Abe hadn't really been paying attention to. Divination bored him to tears. Sure, Copernicus - soundes like some sort of Renaissance hero - had some okay thoughts about predicting the future. Sure, Divination was  no where near as dry or dull as History of Magic. But he had never got it.

The whole thing revolves around speculation. Abe, at thirteen, did not grasp speculation. It remained to be seen if he ever would.

So the professor had asked the class and Abe had answered. Loudly. Before anyone could object, Abe peeled into a long philosophical rant based around the ridiculousness of trying to see the future. You couldn't see the future. You had to be the future.

His Da has always told him that he, Abraham Lincoln, would be the only one who could determine and act on his future. And Abe already knew what he wanted and would do.

Three minutes. The professor had not been pleased.

So the Divination homework sat in a messy bundle at the foot of his bed. The rest of his dormmates sat groaning over theirs. Abe was still deciding on if he would even bother doing it.

He couldn't help it if Altair didn't like how he thinked.

The day was warm and springy and full of flowers. Abe walked like a man six times his age, arms crossed behind his back, pensive look on his face. His thought sped over the Quidditch moves his captain had been helping him with when he heard it.

A rustling.

Abe looked up just in time to see another student wiping his nose on his sleeve. His face crinkled in disgust. Didn't anybody carry a hanky around anymore? The boy rounded on him before he could stop staring at the globs of snot on his robe sleeve.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Abe pulled an incredulous face.

"It's not polite to wipe your nose on your sleeve either, but that didn't stop you."

Hi, Abe!

Your application looks great, there's just a couple of things we'll need you to edit before we can get you accepted.

In your RP sample, you talk quite a lot about Divination and Professor Altair. Currently, Altair's teaching Alchemy, and Cladis Perses Gallion is teaching Divination. You'll either need to change Divination to Alchemy, or Altair to Gallion.

Also bear in mind that there's a little bit of powerplaying going on of the professor in your sample too, so if you haven't already checked whether that's okay with Altair/Gallion (depending on which professor you want it to be), please make sure that you get permission from them. Once you've done that, please also note at the bottom of your sample that the powerplaying was approved -- that way, we (and anybody else who reads your app) know it's been run by the other player first. If they don't give their permission, you'll need to remove any parts of your sample that might be considered powerplaying.

Once you've made the required changes, please repost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look. Thanks!

(You still refer to the professor as Altair in one place in the RP sample, but it looks like you just missed that edit by mistake, so...)
