Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Nina Rosalyn McCormick

Birthday: 16th September 1935

Hometown: Barnton, Cheshire

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Transfiguration

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): Fifth (pls) / fourth year

Biography:
(Hoping it's okay to reference Gryffindor in this!)

Nina's parents met through mutual friends in London in early 1958 (1920). Her mother, Claudine - surname then Roux - was a French pureblood, newly graduated and working in Magical Psychology, while her father, Andrew, a muggleborn, had recently got a job at the Ministry. They hit it off immediately, but their love story was not an easy one; the Roux family, elitists, did not approve of their daughter marrying someone of blood less pure than their own - let alone a 'mudblood'.

Of course, this didn't stop Claudine. She and Andrew were married two summers later, and welcomed their first child, Annabelle, in 1962 (1924). However, with their new family, Claudine lost contact with the rest of hers - the McCormicks have rarely visited the Roux household in France, let alone them come to England - and it wasn't long until Andrew lost his too. His parents, both muggles, were lost to the time warp, who were far more happy about the marriage, were lost to the time warp. Nina has no memory of them; she was little older than one when they disappeared.

Nina's childhood was idyllic, a mixture of a wizarding and muggle upbringing. She spent equal time zipping about on a tiny, slow-moving broom, and practising netball, a muggle sport her father taught her. The youngest of three siblings and the youngest of her cousins, she was - and still is - spoiled by her family.

Her brother and sister, Samuel and Annabelle, are not dissimilar to her in that they are both very loud, and very competitive, which made her household very noisy growing up, and so Nina would have to shout extra loud in order to be heard. This is now habit; she has a tendency to speak very loudly and tries in both Quidditch and her academic work in order to try and get one up over both her siblings. Annabelle did well at school, while Samuel is now a Quidditch player - Nina feels compelled to compete in both areas.

Sorted in to Gryffindor for her - sometimes foolish - bravery, Nina has spent the last four years playing on the Quidditch team, and working hard in Transfiguration, perhaps neglecting the rest of her subjects. It is unlikely her fifth year will be any different!

Personality: Loud, blunt, organised, sweet at heart.

Appearance: [FC: Maia Mitchell]

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
In response to Sample 1.

Where was Finny? He'd asked her to meet here - Merlin knows for what reason, or why he had chosen here - but she had work to do. OWLs were fast approaching, and her fourth year had ended with some of her most disappointing grades yet. There was no question that she had to get her act together, and that meant there was no time to get embroiled any sort of elaborate prank her friend may have planned.

Yet here she was, listening to the sound of her own footsteps, relatively relaxed in the once intimidating dungeon. The smell of damp wasn't nice, but it had become familiar, and so didn't unsettle her too much. Why didn't the school did something about it? She was sure the swimming pool had something to do with it.

The silence, however, made Nina truly uncomfortable. She was never one for quiet, even comfortable silences, but this lifeless lack of sound was definitely the worst type. It seemed she was the only soul in these dungeons, glancing down at her watch to confirm she hadn't got the time Finny had given her wrong.

"H-h-hello?"

Nina nearly jumped out of her skin. It was a whisper, but bloody hell it echoed.

It seemed she'd been very wrong about being the only person in the dungeons, for a tiny, fair haired girl stood a few metres in front of her. She swore first years got shorter every year; if she hadn't said anything, Nina would have probably continued walking in a straight line, not looking where she was going, and would have ploughed into the little girl.

Given how much she had surprised Nina - and how pathetically scared the tiny blonde looked - she was tempted to snap at her. However, she felt a little protective over the girl, considering the colour of her tie.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

"Emma Birch," Nina repeated. "I haven't heard that story in years." Emma Birch's death was before she had started at Hogwarts, and she was one of its older students now. "Who's told you about that?"

She'd have thought it below seventh years to go telling tiny firsties about a dead girl so close to the start of term.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Nina Rosalyn McCormick

Birthday: 16th September, 1935

Hometown: Barnton, Cheshire

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Transfiguration

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): preferably a first year, but otherwise second year please!

Biography:
Nina is the youngest daughter of Claudine Amelie McCormick (née Roux), a French witch from a respected Pure-blood family, and Andrew James McCormick, a Muggle-born wizard whose family were delighted to see him accepted into Hogwarts. Although Claudine's family haven't exiled her, as such, the household rarely spend time with her proud  pure-blood heritage; they seldom invite the McCormick family over, even at Christmas, and when they do meet, Claudine can see the disappointment in their eyes at her having married a "mudblood". Andrew's family, on the other hand, were quite the opposite. Andrew had been an only child, and his parents were ecstatic to witness their otherwise fairly untalented son accepted into the wizarding world. They were fascinated with everything magical, and wholly supported Andrew in all of his wizarding ventures. Her paternal grandparents were truly the most welcoming family anyone could wish for - at least, that was what Nina had been told. According to her parents, Nina and her grandparents got on famously for the fifteen months that they were acquainted, before they disappeared. Nina's father is a firm believer in the time-warp; his parents wouldn't just vanish like that.

Nevertheless, despite their lack of extended family, the McCormick family couldn't be happier. Nina has two older siblings, a brother and a sister, Samuel and Annabel, an aspiring quidditch player and journalist respectively. The household live in a sleepy little wizarding village named Barnton, in Cheshire, England, although they own a small house in remote Scotland, where the nearest village is Hogsmeade, twelve miles away. As a result Nina is well acquainted with the town - Honeydukes was a regular haunt of hers during their family getaways when she was younger.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw or Slytherin, I don't mind! [I don't think her personality's particularly suited to Hufflepuff.]

Personality:
Having two extraordinarily talented older siblings simply does not raise an introvert - Nina has spent her entire life needing to stand out against her brother and sister's achievements. She's loud, bubbly and confident, and has no issues with talking to new people - even if they're years older than her!

Nina's pretty talented at making friends, and she prides herself in having a large circle of people she likes. She likes to form opinions of people for herself, not listening to rumours of what others have to say about them. However, once she has formed an opinion, she'll stick by it, and make sure everyone else knows what she thinks of someone - be it good or bad. For example, if she considers someone a friend, and hears someone else insult them, she will let loose - on the receiving end of one of her rants is not a good position to be in! On the other hand, if she has met someone once and formed a negative opinion of them, she'll tell everyone else about how she thinks so and so is fake, or boring, or how how flat their hair is.

Nina will never back down from an argument; she's stubborn and fierce, and sees confrontation as a fun activity as opposed to something that'll hurt someone's feelings. Although she'll rarely bring personal matters into a debate, if someone else initiates it, she has no issues with ripping their personality to shreds. She won't hold grudges for a good debate, and holds people who'll argue with her without getting offended afterwards in high esteem.

Nina's clever - she's hardworking, although she'd be quick to add that her entire life doesn't revolve around her grades. Unfortunately, her combination of a quick tongue and a lot of confidence sometimes results in her getting into trouble, be it with her peers or with her teachers. She's known to make snarky comments or to answer back, and although she doesn't intend to be hurtful, she doesn't think before she speaks. Fortunately, the penalty she faces for acting like this doesn't bother her - she won't dwell on someone being offended, and doesn't view detention as the end of the world.

Despite being fiercely loyal to her friends, Nina can be a little unpredictable. It's a rare occasion, but has "gone off" people in the past, and this can be very sudden. One day she'll be somebody's best friend, nothing wrong, and the next she'll ignore them. Observing this, one would assume that the other person had done something to deeply offend Nina, but knowing Nina's character, it's more likely that they haven't done anything at all - if they had, we'd all know about it. Maybe she just gets a little bored.

Nina's open about her inner thoughts and feelings - not just narrating her opinions of others, but about anything. She'll have no qualms about telling all her friends about her newest crush, be it a celebrity or a classmate. If it is a classmate, she doesn't really care if they find out - she'd rather be openly rejected than to be the sort to brood for months over someone who barely knows she exists.

In short, the strengths of her character are that she is friendly, independent, charismatic, open, witty, fun to be around, loyal, thick skinned and confident. Her weaknesses are her bluntness, slightly unpredictable nature, lack of sympathy, not thinking before she speaks, her lack of respect for anything creative, and her knack of occasionally putting herself before others.

Appearance:
Nina has dark, glossy, dead straight hair, although her hair naturally forms little ringlets. Annabel, Nina's older sister, would gently tease her for these curls, and although she would never admit it, it secretly upset Nina. As a result of this, Nina's mother, Claudine, cast a spell on Nina's hair to make it thick and straight and can be, and she was delighted by this. She has chocolate, wide set eyes, a small nose, and glowy, slightly tanned skin. Her lips are full and wear a smile, the majority of the time. She measures around four feet and nine inches, aged eleven, which is fairly average height, and is slender in physique, although by no means weak looking.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

In response to option two.

Whenever Nina found herself with very little to do, she usually found herself people-watching. People-watching was an activity that she had enjoyed from the age of around six, when herself and her mother sat waiting on platform ten of King's Cross Station, waiting for her father to return after dropping Annabel and Sam off on platform nine and three quarters, ready for Sam's first day of Hogwarts. They observed the muggles walking by, inventing names, life stories and purposes for these people - "His name's John Buttercroft! He's an accountant, although his dream is to start his own business, and he's running because he's late for a meeting that could cost him his job!" Years on, Nina played this game so much that it began to annoy her mother, so she played it alone. And still, five years on, would she play people-watching, although it wasn't quite as fun at Hogwarts; maybe she had some idea of their name, or some other fact about them.

However, one person Nina knew nothing about was the boy scrabbling around in the flowers in front of her. He was obviously much older than her, maybe a fourth or a fifth year, and he was pretty intent on finding something in the flowerbeds. Nina frowned as he pulled apart the flowers, ruining the display - although she guessed an older student could easily fix it with a wave of their wand. The boy paused his messy fumbling in the flowers and stood up, wiping his nose on his sleeve. He looked at Nina and said scornfully, "Can I help you with something? It's not polite to stare."
Nina raised her eyebrows, and asked in an inquisitive tone, "What are you doing?"
The fact that he was evidently so much older than her didn't really intimidate her; after all, he was the one making a fool of himself rolling around in the flowers.
