Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:
Alexander Hawkins

Birthday:
23 March

Hometown:
Suffolk

Bloodline:
Muggleborn

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two):
Fourth or Fifth, no particular preference.

Biography:
Being born before the Time Warp to muggle parents, Alexander was transported and ultimately abandoned in an era he would come to believe was his own. He was taken into an orphanage, until being adopted by muggle parents. For much of his young childhood, he lived in a small town near Suffolk, before his family moved to the bigger city. His parents were closed-minded and conservative, and he grew up being conformed and shaped by this mindset. However, things changed when he turned seven, and first discovered his magical powers. Frightened by what his parents would think or do, he initially suppressed these powers, trying to convince himself that he didn’t possess these powers that would make him different in the eyes of his parents.

Unfortunately, he could not hide his magic forever. At the age of nine, his powers came out in public, infuriating his parents, who were unawares up until this point. From then on, Alexander was, indeed, treated differently than before. His parents were disgusted by the fact that he was different than them, and others in the city. He was the butt of many painful jokes at his expense, and was all but ignored at outings and family gatherings. Disgusted by his parents’ behavior, he began to reject their mindset and ideologies, instead formulating his own by himself. He felt a stirring for justice in him, and decided quickly that he would fight for this justice in later years, when his voice would matter.

Always friendly, but never seeming to fit in, Alexander did not have the chance to become particularly attached to anyone, thus causing him to become fiercely independent. Not that he didn’t want friends, as he was always willing to open up to people and let them in; this independence was more out of necessity than choice. When seeing one of his fellow classmates bullied or otherwise, he would stand up for them, fighting if necessary, his magical powers (despite him trying desperately to suppress them) coming out more often than not. This caused his peers – even the ones he tried to defend – to ostracize him, causing him to become more alienated from others than more and more. He felt more alone than he had ever felt in his life; could he possibly be alone?

Upon receiving his letter to Hogwarts, he felt a great sense of joy and belonging. Thoughts that he was alone were immediately struck away, replaced instead with a feeling of hopefulness. For once in his life, he would be accepted. For once in his life, he wouldn’t be an outsider. For once in his life, he would be around others like him. But when he finally entered the Wizarding World, he was sent reeling. He was forced to register as a "Muggleborn," having not been born to magical folks, and faced extreme prejudice due to this. He found himself, amongst others like him, being discriminated once again – due to something else he could not change about himself. Again, he found himself pledging that he would fight for fairness and justice when he arrived at Hogwarts, and become a prominent member in the Wizarding World in later years. He would not allow this injustice to go unpunished as a matured and adult wizard.

House Request:
Hufflepuff, please, as this is a reapp, and that was Alexander's house previously :)

Personality:
As stated in his biography, Alexander is fiercely independent, but this comes from necessity, as his whole life he has been alienated and ostracized. He is, in nature, a very friendly person, and one who is sympathetic to the plights of others. However, due to discrimination he has faced in his life, he has been forced to go off by himself, as he was the only person he could trust and be friendly with.  He is ready to stand up for his beliefs whenever necessary; more than that, he is willing to stand up for anyone who he sees being attacked or discriminated against. Due to his lack of friends, the boy will no doubt be loyal to anyone who even considered him an acquaintance, sticking with them through thick and then, as he (perhaps subconsciously) believes that this may be the last opportunity for friendship that he might have. He likes writing, finding that he could easily pour all his negative feelings and emotions into it without being disturbed by others. His writing desk was a haven for him, allowing him to work in peace without the fear of being judged by others. Words, he found, did not have an opinion; they did not judge you, but merely told things as they were.

In response to Sample Roleplay Two:
Alexander found solace in gardens. The vibrant colours of the multitudes of flowers put him at ease, clearing his mind and cheering him up. When living in Suffolk, the public gardens was his favourite place to go, and he found himself often sneaking off to them during his time at the house. He enjoyed watching others enraptured in the allure of the beautiful plants, seeing the small, pleasant smiles form on their faces as the beheld the blooming floral arrangements. The affable environment was the one place he felt safe, comfortable; he often brought a notebook or pad with him when he visited, writing as he surrendered his sense of smell to the pleasant aroma in the air, writing about his life at home, about the gardens, about the people who visited, attempting to sketch the blossoming plants. He created worlds and stories in his sacred safe-haven, yet never once finishing one of his stories. When he arrived at the Castle, he searched for a place similar, a place where he could stowaway, unbeknownst and undisturbed by others. To his satisfaction, he found a place almost exactly like his previous hideaway: yet another garden.

The garden was, for the most part, relatively unvisited; at least, it was whenever Alexander visited. Students at the school were more focused with Quidditch or studying or Wizard’s Chess to truly appreciate the school’s gardens. Admittedly, he did feel a bit empty when the gardens were empty; he craved to see simple admiration of the plants, as he once did in the Suffolk Public Gardens. On the other hand, it was nice to be in a place where he could focus and write without being bothered by other students. He loved his friends to death, but he did need to be isolated every once in a while. He enjoyed friendly company, but routine had gotten him used to being alone; if he didn’t have it just a bit, he would begin to feel strange, as if a part of him were empty. As much as he hated to admit it, his independence was still a very large part of him.

He entered the gardens that day not expecting to be interrupted; alas, his expectations were not met.

The disturbance bombarded him as he was in the middle of sketching some of the seasonal Poinsettias. Alexander had been walked in on numerous times, but his fellow student usually kept to themselves, quietly admiring the plants. However, this time was much different. The boy burst through the flowers, trampling them, and his eyes frantically scurried across the floor in search of something. Bewildered, Alexander quickly got to his feet, his eyes fixed on the older boy.

“Look what you’ve done,” he exclaimed, his comment falling on deaf ears as the boy still searched for…whatever he was looking for. “You’ve gone and ruined the Poinsettias!”

The boy noticed him then, although it was evident he did not hear Alexander, as he rudely (and thickly) asked what he was staring at, then scolding him for staring. Recognizing the thickness of voice as probable congestion, and noticing the runny nose and red eyes, he put two and two together; it was evident that the boy was allergic to something in the room. Sympathy immediately overcoming Alexander, he took a step towards the boy.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare,” he apologized, his mouth forming a small, sympathetic smile. “It’s just that I wasn’t expecting someone to come in here and run through the Poinsettias I was sketching…The name’s Alexander Hawkins, by the way,” he introduced himself, his smile becoming wider and friendlier. “And you are?”

After our discussion, the parents mentioned in Alexander's bio are his adoptive parents. He was orphaned after the Time Warp, only to be adopted by the muggles from the era, as mentioned above. Thank you :)
