Biography:

James was not only the first born of David Leighton and Roelle Bennett, he was their only son.

He was born nearly two years after his parents were married. It was a much celebrated event by his grandparents, because there had been a time when they believed David would never settle down to a life with a suitable wife and children. However, he eventually had, though it was impossible to say he'd ever truly settled.

James enjoyed spending time with his father for that reason, though. As long as he didn't get up to anything too terrible, his father was laid back and fun to be around. David took him to Quidditch matches and introduced him to famous players, let him stay up past his bedtime at night, and run unsupervised around Diagon Alley. David was also available for any advice about girls that James might need.

His mother was a little stricter. Roelle could be fun to be around, too, but James knew better than to argue with her. While David let things go if James could come up with a good enough excuse, she didn't. She was strict, but also the more affectionate parent - at least, most of the time.

When James was about a year old, his little sister, Kathleen, had been born. Since he'd been so young, there were no memories of life before her. She'd always been there - a constant companion and a constant annoyance. As the case with many siblings, James both loved and loathed her, but he was protective of her if anyone outside the family tried to mess with her.

And what a large family it was. James had several aunts and uncles and many, many more cousins. Despite having so many biological relatives, he also had an aunt and uncle who weren't really his aunt and uncle. Zoraida and Rory Arnett were the closest friends of his parents. James had grown up with their daughter, Elizabeth. She was like having another sister and his best friend. Much like with Kathleen, he couldn't remember life without Elizabeth.

He could be bossy sometimes - a trait inherited from his mother, but mostly with Kathleen. Since James was older, he felt it was his duty to tell her what to do and how to do it. He didn't like when he was actually put in charge of looking out for her, though. That was too much responsibility. Usually James just wanted to have fun and  do whatever he wanted without being forced to take care of others. He could be protective of Kathleen and Elizabeth, but that was always when he felt like it.

His first year at Hogwarts was his first time away from Kathleen and Elizabeth. It was also his first time away from his mother, which was nice, but James didn't get to experience the full perks of living away from home, because his father worked at Hogwarts. David didn't interfere much, but he was there. Though, that's not to say there weren't any benefits to that. He did like to hang out in David's office when he wasn't there, sit behind the desk and pretend he was in charge of all the students in Slytherin.

Things turned much worse at the end of his first year when a girl was murdered and bad people took over the school. While James was upset and didn't really understand what was going on, he was Leighton. Their super power was hiding their emotions and pretending everything was perfectly fine, even if the world was burning down around them. So he went on with life as though things were still normal - never mentioning that he kept an extra eye on Kathleen and Elizabeth or that he worried they might do something bad to his father.

As the years passed by, what had seemed so horrible at first became the new normal. He still (very, very) subtly watched over Kathleen and Elizabeth, but James worried less and he could focus on more important things, like being a teenage boy.

James looks a lot like his father, but is nowhere near as vain. Or as obsessed with his hair.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

H-h-hello?"

James turned his head, trying to figure out where the voice was coming from. He was well acquainted with the dungeons after so many years at Hogwarts, especially since his father's office was there - and the swimming pool, of course.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?

He froze. He'd heard the rumors and stories that went around the younger years about the ghost of Emma. James didn't believe it, of course. He'd never seen her ghost, and he would know it was her. When it had happened, he'd only been a first year, but he remembered her. All blonde hair and pretty and so much older. There definitely hadn't been any ghosts like that hanging round the dungeons.

Turning his steps in the direction of the girl's voice, James wondered if pretending to be the ghost of Emma was disrespectful. Probably so. And considering how she had died, he didn't want to do that. That also didn't mean he couldn't have any fun with it.

He popped around the corner into view. "Not right now. It's just me down here." A mischievous light danced in his eyes. "However, I do know that if you say her name three times whilst looking in a mirror, she'll appear."

Biography: (100 words minimum.)

James Leighton was not only the first born of David and Roelle, he was their only son.

He was born nearly two years after his parents were married. It was a much celebrated event by his grandparents, because there had been a time when they believed David would never settle down to a life with a suitable wife and children. James had always liked spending time with his father for that reason, though. As long as he didn't get up to anything too terrible, David was laid back and fun to be around. He took James to Quidditch matches and introduced him to famous players, he let him stay up past his bedtime at night, and taught him that girls did not really have cooties.

His mother was a little stricter. Roelle was fun to be around, too, but James knew better than to argue with her. While David let things go if James could come up with a good enough excuse, she didn't. She was the more affectionate parent, though - at least, most of the time.

She'd always been there - a constant companion and a constant annoyance. As the case with most siblings, James both loved and loathed her. But he was protective of her if anyone outside the family tried to mess with her.

Between their parents, James and Kathleen were some of the best dressed children around. With that came a certain pride for James, in being a Leighton and in who he was (though he could never be as arrogant as his father).

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
It was the weekend.

James and Kathleen were in Hogsmeade spending the day with their father. Since David had started working at Hogwarts, James hadn't been able to spend as much time with him. Sometimes, though, they came to Hogsmeade and David treated them to loads of sweets from Honeydukes and playing in the park.

James had spotted the other boys playing on their brooms. He was keen to join in, because flying and Quidditch was in his blood. He'd been going to professional games since he'd been born. (The perk of having a father so heavily involved in the sport.)

Then there was a little girl shouting at him, blocking his path to the other boys.

"No. No, I don't want to play." He had one little sister to bug him; he didn't need a strange little girl to start as well. "Try my sister. She's over there."
