Biography: (100 words minimum.)

Welcome to the circus.

Cirque du Tempête is a home to whomever needs it. The ringmaster and his eclectic family offer open arms. Whether patron or family, this magical circus will welcome you home. There are simply three rules to abide by:

One, you must leave your old life behind. Step into the world of being a Tempest; your wealth, your family name, your connections do not matter.

Two, everyone must contribute in some form.

Three, fear must not accompany you.

Aubrey and Niklaus ran away to the circus at eighteen years old. Two pureblooded heirs who turned their back on the world that expected them; who ran from separate altars and married one another instead. Then, they hid, joining a circus of misfits and wondrous creatures to live their lives as who they could be and not who society expected them to present as.

They embraced the nomadic travelling life of performers, and the rules that came with joining through. Over the years contributed to the group first through menial tasks, until they were entrusted with more important roles. Aubrey became a trapezist, skilled in the arts of illusion and mid-air apparition. Niklaus worked with the array of magic creatures, tending to their needs and any injuries as they saw fit.

Some four years in, however, Aubrey found herself expecting, and took a break from tumbling through the skies.

Philippa Tempest was born just south of The Callanish Stones in Scotland, on the eve of a closing performance. She was given the same surname as the other children born to their travelling troupe, a child of the circus and not of the blood that ran through her veins.

Aside from her namesake, to the grandmother who had helped them escape their future, Pippa, they decided, would never know the world in which they had been raised.

She would know the freedom the world had to offer.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trudged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Even from the outskirts of the park, where children played, Pip could see the falling, shimmering stars on the giant big top that indicated the way home. They were still setting up for a week-long stop in Hogsmeade Village, and the girl had become bored helping her father with the Enrumpent, who currently had some sort of flu.

Pip never wanted to be anywhere near an Enrupment sneeze again.

She really ought to have been in practice; along with the other children of the circus. They had long since been put through their paces on the various equipment the circus had to offer to find out where they would be best at learning new skills. At seven, Pippa had found her niche, but working on it when the sun was out felt like such a chore.

Or doing the dreaded basics of arithmancy work that the group’s tutor, old Missus Ellie, had shouted was due that night. The Ringmaster’s wife went to great lengths to ensure the children of the circle still received an education. The boring sessions were held after dinner and before the performance each night. Pip hated them.

Pippa had no patience for falling into cushioned mats or stumbling over too hard equations today, though.

Instead, she had been drawn in by the sight of the children in the sky. She snuck away without thought of the repercussions. Her neck was craned, as she stood on the cusp of the park, watching them all with bright eyes when the barked word had her head snapping down to see what was happening. There was no shortage of children around a circus, but Pip didn’t always have the time to play.

“Me?” Pippa jabbed her thumb against her chest as she spoke. Then, at the question, she lifted one shoulder in half a shrug. She did want to play; she always wanted to play.

“I haven’t got a broom.”

She hesitated.

“Do you want to do cartwheels instead? I’m Pippa.”
