Biography:
She was a lost girl, a forgotten girl, a forsaken girl. She came to the Osberns with nothing but a name, stitched into the corner of a crimson blanket, each letter emblazoned in golden thread: Aliena.

When she was very small, Aliena had often imagined that she’d never had parents to begin with—that she’d been borne of dreams, of magic, of a castle in the clouds, that she was queen of a kingdom only she could reach.

Time had taught her differently. When she was cut, her blood was as copper-bright as any other’s, and the magic running through her veins was as mundane as Mother’s self-stirring pot. Mother was Mother because the Osberns were kind, but Aliena didn’t belong to them, nor they to her. Hogwarts was a castle, its walls teeming with magic, with possibility, but its rough-hewn foundations were rooted deep in the cold, hard earth.

And so she learned to love new gods: Time and Earth, inexorable and unyielding and holy. They were two sides of the same golden coin, one Aliena folded questing hands over as if in prayer—the unstoppable force and the immovable object. She became an acolyte of both; after all, she thought, what else had the world begun with? How else could it end?

But if Aliena belonged to Time, to the Earth, Lane—her first friend, and her last—belonged wholly to her. There was no one more dear, no one a more perfect mirror to her own soul, and so she became, simply, Lena (for Lane was the path, and she was the torch lighting it).

It was fate, perhaps, that years of History of Magic, of Arithmancy and Ancient Runes and Divination, brought Lena to an inevitable conclusion: what else could she possibly do with her life but uncover the secrets the Earth bore, that Time had left behind? She buried herself in the place where the past meets the present, and only once in a very long while is she reminded (in dreams, always in dreams) of the castle in the clouds.

Roleplay Response:
Her nose was buried deep in a dusty tome, hazel eyes brilliant and bright as she devoured its Latin phrases nearly as quickly as she might have read English. This particular assignment was proving to be difficult, but enlightening, and Lena was nothing if not thorough.

For all that she was a Gryffindor, she could conduct research as well as any Ravenclaw.

Even the busy crowd mulling about Diagon Alley seemed to fade and grow dull as Lena read, like the sound of a radio playing from another room. From where she sat—amid files and stacks of notebooks piled precarious to either side of her—she hadn’t even registered the presence of the woman the next bench over, and probably never would have had it not been for her abrupt cry just moments after her abrupt departure.

Eyebrows drawing together, Lena looked up from her work, and the surrounding world came slowly into focus. Carefully stowing the book in her satchel (it was quite old, after all), Lena stood and took several quick steps to the woman’s side.

She snatched up the shoe in one hand (hardly her most impressive find) and offered the other to its frantic owner, a smile coming readily to her lips. “There doesn’t seem to be a knight in shining armour about, so I’m afraid you’ll have to make do with me.”
