Name: Oriana Eytzinger

Birthday: January 13, 1948

Hometown: London, England

Bloodline:
Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): Third (first choice) or Fourth (second choice)

Biography:
Oriana was born to Camilla and Henrik Eytzinger in Stockholm, Sweden. On that day, she would be the second child in the family, along with her brother, Magnus, who is two years older than her.

The Eytzingers are a reasonably wealthy pureblood family, perhaps most notable for the magical research they contribute in the wizarding world. Her father, Henrik, had been descended from a line of researchers who wished to discover everything they could about magical theory and learn how to tap into its boundless potential. However, his job has also made it hard for him to spend time with his family, and as a result, Oriana and Magnus spent the majority of time with their mother.

Camilla is a very devoted pureblood, ascribing to their traditions and beliefs She is very committed to her children, although her focus had mostly lied within Magnus due to his status as the firstborn and being the only boy out of her children. While she doted on her son and made sure to teach him all he had to know about being the heir to the Eytzinger family; she taught her daughter to be a proper housewife and to keep the values of the pureblood close to heart. It was clear that her mother highly favoured her son, although it barely put a dent in the siblings’ relationship. Magnus had always been a dutiful son and brother, being protective over his little sister and often playing games with her or giving her advice when she needed it.

However, Oriana found other ways to spend her time. She often visited the library, marvelling at various discoveries her father had made in the past. She enjoyed reading various fictional books, primarily from the magical world, as she saw it as a temporary escape from reality and into a new and interesting world with vibrant characters. She also picked up the violin, something that her mother encouraged her to do and became one of the only true bonding moments they had with each other as she taught her how to play the violin.

This steady routine changed on Magnus’ seventh birthday. After days, and then weeks of failing to perform any kind of magic, a possibility arose that he might not have had any magical talent within him. This would be proven true after another year where he couldn’t attempt any kind of magic no matter how hard he tried. This revelation caused tension in the family, as they all knew what having a squib meant for them and their reputation. Camilla made the decision to discreetly throw her son out into the Muggle world and kept the circumstances of his disappearance, and whereabouts, quiet to everyone, including Oriana.

This left Oriana as the last hope for Camilla to build up a legacy for the family. With Magnus gone, eight years of teaching and training had been wasted away. Determined to make up for the lost time, she held Oriana under a tight leash, teaching the same lessons to her and she heavily criticized any mistakes she made. Anything, even when it was a minor error, was enough for Camilla to belittle and punish her until she did everything perfectly.

Oriana eventually showed several signs of magic once her seventh birthday arrived. Her first instance of magic occurred as she was setting the dishes on the table for dinner, when one cup had fallen from her grasp. Instead of shattering on the ground, it managed to levitate a few centimetres off the ground. Since then, she learned how to keep her magic, along with her emotions, in control until she could go to a proper school to freely practice her magic.

By the time she became eleven years old, she was sent off to Durmstrang, where Henrik had previously attended. Her time there was refreshing, as she could finally express an extent of freedom while her mother was away. She performed well in her classes, especially in Charms and the Dark Arts, and was usually found with her fellow pureblood classmates or studying on her own. Despite being in the school for a while, she has never made any long-lasting connections with any of her schoolmates, preferring to keep a distance and instead focusing on her studies and her pursuit to uphold the family name.

It wasn’t until later when she received the news that she would be moving to England, as Henrik would be relocating his work there due to new research opportunities. This new change would force her to transfer from Durmstrang to the British wizarding school, Hogwarts-- the same school Camilla attended. This was something that Oriana finds inconvenient, although she eventually conceded to the idea of getting used to a new environment.

House Request: Slytherin (first choice), Ravenclaw (second choice)

Personality: With a dignified and stoic demeanor, Oriana is hard to approach. While she does not necessarily go out of her way to be mean to others, her aloofness and cold personality can be enough to drive people away even when she doesn’t intend to do so. She prefers to be direct, opting to say no more than she has to say and being very honest with others, even if she might hurt them in the process.

After being constantly overshadowed by her brother, Oriana desperately wants to prove herself, and she is willing to go through great lengths if she has to do so. She has an intense drive, and due to her stubborn nature, she cannot be easily swayed once her mind is made. She is determined to be the best she can be on her own merit.

Her defining trait is her perfectionism--something her mother made sure to instill in her. She can be very critical of both her own actions and that of others. It is very hard for her to be satisfied, and she can get particularly irritated if an issue lasts longer than it should. She will go through several lengths to make sure something goes right, and should something fail, she may take it personally if it was something she could have avoided. She primarily relies on logic and sense, and is very organized in her work--a trait she picked up from her father. She has a tendency to observe and analyze before she decides on what to do, preferring to stay cautious and watchful rather than going head-first into situations.

Oriana prefers to solve problems on her own and she views asking people for help as a sign of weakness and that she was never capable of something to begin with. The concept of teamwork is something she is familiar with, and something she may engage in when necessary, but it's not something she particularly enjoys. She tends to be pragmatic in her problem solving, taking practical methods to get the job done--nothing more and nothing less than that.

The lack of warmth and overt love from her mother and a lack of a genuine bond between her and her father has stunted Oriana’s emotional growth. As a result, it is difficult for her to express or even acknowledge her emotions. Her time in Durmstrang had also left her with no real sense of connection to anyone else, and as such, she has little reason to trust other people. For the most part, she spends her time isolated and withdrawn from everyone else. Likewise, she finds it hard to understand or sympathize with other people, often looking at things through an objective lens. While she does accept company and even takes interest in topics she finds intriguing, it takes a long time for her to acknowledge someone as her friend--but when she does see someone as her friend, she can be unequivocally loyal to them and is willing to assist them in any way she can, even if it causes a significant amount of trouble on her end.

Appearance: At 5’5 (167 cm), Oriana towers over many of her fellow classmates and carries herself with pride. Her hair is well-maintained and is the colour of dark gold, falling past her shoulder blades. On most occasions, it is usually kept in a low ponytail secured with a long black ribbon. Her eyes are narrowed and a dark muddled shade of green and blue, not like the clear blue eyes her mother or brother have. Her skin is light with faint freckles mottled on her face, an unwelcome reminder of her imperfections. Her usual fashion consists of formal wear as she likes to dress professionally, though her attire typically includes a jacket, a blouse, and a skirt to match. She prefers a monochrome colour scheme- wearing predominantly white with black as her secondary colour, and the only accessory she wears is a simple golden chain hung around her neck.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Response:

The dungeons were a place not many people ventured. For good reason, too. The barely lit room and frigid air was enough to entice a shudder in the ordinary person passing by-- especially if they found themselves alone. For Oriana, it was just another place she found herself travelling through. There were worse things back in Durmstrang. By comparison, this was as normal as a walk in the corridors from the other floor.

Her shoes made a clack against the stone floor and echoed in the dark, empty hallway-- a sound that stood out in the otherwise piercing silence. She had heard passing rumours about this place, ranging from the quaint to the eccentric. The most popular rumours by far were the supposed ghosts who silently lurked in the corners of the school. One of them was said to be here in the dungeons.

The concept of ghosts was heavily dramatized, Oriana concluded. They were stories meant to scare the younger years as an attempt to entertain themselves. They existed, surely, and there may have been a gruesome history behind their conception, but that was something they would learn to be accustomed to, if they were to stay in Hogwarts.

She came to a halt at the sound of a young timid voice. Emma Birch. If she was not mistaken, that was one of the ghosts she heard in those rumours. Whoever this girl was, she was seeking her out on purpose. For whatever reason, she did not know. Either way, the girl did not sound confident. As if she did not know what she would be expecting from whatever she planned to do.

Oriana stepped out of the darkness to address the girl.

“Is there a reason you are making such a ruckus?”

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
It wasn’t everyday Oriana went out on her own. It was justified, since there was usually no need for her to go outside. She had her books back home, and they were enough to keep her company. But a change of pace wouldn’t have harmed her. She couldn’t exactly stay in her home forever.

She wouldn’t be out for long. Mother would make sure of it. Of course, she insisted on going with her. There was no use arguing against her about it. She should have been grateful that she allowed her to go outside to begin with, knowing her.

The walk to the park had been a quiet one.

Fortunately, Mother had found an adult to converse with. For a while, she had peace. With her book in hand and a relaxing environment, her mind drifted.

Then a petulant screech shook her out of her concentration.

She scrunched up her face, although it would have been hard to see with her book covering her face. It didn’t sound like her mother. If anything, it sounded like a child throwing a tantrum. With a quiet sigh, Oriana turned around to detect the source of the voice, only for her suspicions to be confirmed when she came face to face with a small girl. She stared at her, her expression barely changing. She never had other children spontaneously approach her. She surmised that the girl must have gone to her if there were no other children around. Or perhaps she went for the nearest one and did not care who it was she bothered.

After a second passed, whatever anger she might have had in her voice subsided, as she made a simple request.

Did Oriana want to play? The simple answer was no. She didn’t have time to play, nor did she have any inkling of interest in the concept of playing with a child she wasn’t familiar with. Even with a look at the girl, Oriana could already sense that she would have been a hassle to deal with. An annoyance, even. Didn’t she see she had a book to read? That should have been the first indicator that she wasn’t open for conversation.

However.

This was the first time someone wanted to talk to her with no strings attached. This wasn’t one of the gatherings Mother hosted where adults forced their children to talk to her. This was a normal park. And a girl was asking her to play. She wasn’t even scared of her. She picked her for a reason, even if it was as minor as happening to be in her vicinity

She opened her mouth to respond, ready to recite the words she was supposed to say. ’Yes.’ That was the bare minimum of what she could have said. She could have elaborated with ‘What did you have in mind?’ if she wanted to, but a ‘yes’ would have been enough of an answer on its own. She could always finish her book later. She only had one chance to make this girl happy. It would have been so easy.

Then she felt a glare burning into her. She didn’t have to turn around to know who it was. The words died before they could reach the tip of her tongue.

“No.”

There was no explanation that followed. She didn’t need to provide one. A simple no could easily be interpreted by anyone-- even a child as small as her. She would understand what it meant. Surely, she’d find other children to play with her. If not, then an adult could have entertained her. But that wasn’t her problem to deal with anymore.

Ignoring the weight in her chest, she walked away and never turned back. She hoped she never saw that girl again.
