Biography:

Weston Hale and Tiberius Langston met at Hogwarts as two 11-year-old boys who were instantly drawn to each other. They tried to deny the connection at first, but by the time they were 16, they were inseparable. To most, they appeared to be the best of friends. Only a few of their closest confidantes knew they were dating. For fear of societal repercussions, they chose to keep their relationship a secret until they left Hogwarts and could lead their own lives as adults. Luckily, Weston's family had old money, and he inherited enough to be able to get a private estate out in the country. The brilliant duo eloped after graduation and started to work on their dream of opening their own private curse-breaking agency, as they knew few employers would be willing to hire them.

On December 24th, 1947, 5 years post-graduation, Weston and Tiberius Hale welcomed a baby girl into their home. The two were waiting to adopt for years due to the nature of their relationship, so this was nothing short of a Christmas miracle. They decided to name her December, and doted on her every want and fancy.

Just two years later, the Hales were lucky enough to adopt a second child. They named her Marvel, and she was instantly the light of December's life. It gave her a sense of pride to be able to take care of her little sister, and having another child around was a much-needed comfort for the young witch.

As December and Marvel grew older, their dads’ work continued to expand and grew increasingly demanding. They weren’t at home as much, frequently taking business trips for long periods. When they were home, they treated December like a princess and made sure she had the best au pair Galleons could buy to help look after the two girls while they were away. Despite their efforts, nothing could change the fact that December and Marvel both missed them terribly, and they couldn't help feeling guilty.

Whenever they came home, as a form of apology, they brought back a beautiful porcelain doll each for December and her sister. December adored each one she received and kept them like trophies on a shelf in her room. Many hours were spent with the small blonde staring at them, with curious longing. She studied every gorgeous detail, marveling at the craftsmanship. She would create stories of magnificent adventure and mystery with the dolls taking center stage. They were their own unique characters to her, and she loved them as if they were real. It was a cherished escape from the long days she spent at home, with no company other than her sister and the nanny.

December was a happy kid with a big smile and infectious laugh. She went out of her way to be kind and spread joy to others, though she was always a tad spoiled and stubbornly willful. Unfortunately, like all good things, childhood must come to an end. After the events of one cold, bitter day, December's outlook drastically shifted. She became distrustful of the world around her and her heart stiffened. The bright, carefree girl was only but a memory. Her dads wrote off the change as just a typical phase that she would grow out of. They joked that she defiantly turned into a teenager earlier than most, always so eager to grow up, and didn’t think on it any further.

Putting distance between her and her family was a heartbreaking decision, but December knew that it was necessary. Instead, she focused on her gymnastics and her studies, and she told herself that was all that mattered until she went to Hogwarts. She would be successful out of sheer willpower, using her pain and defiance as a stimulus. After the one fateful day, she vowed never to fail again, no matter what it took.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Gryffindor

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?
Positive Strong-willed, Loyal, Courageous, Protective
Neutral Extroverted, Impulsive, Bold
Negative Antagonistic, Stubborn, Blunt, Obsessed with social status, Emotionally withdrawn
Mannerisms December smiles a lot while she talks, but if you take careful notice, the smile is stiff and doesn't quite reach her eyes. She has a loud, expressive voice that exudes a sense of confidence. She uses hand gestures on occasion but they are saved for when she is passionate about something. Her face is normally expressionless, so it can be difficult to guess what she is feeling.
Quirks She bites her nails, and obsessively washes her hands.
Disposition Plagued by a harrowing experience in her past, December finds it difficult to truly connect to people. She goes through the motions and has many people that she will talk to and relate to on a surface level, but she keeps everyone at arm's length. Her attitude is condescending and selfish at the best of times and downright hostile at the worst of times. December is determined to never allow herself to fully trust someone again because another failure would come at much too great a cost.

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles?
Hair Light silvery blonde, thin and soft. Kept down, and worn with a gentle wave each day.
Eyes Light blue-gray. Mostly devoid of expression.
Skin Pale ivory with cool undertones.
Face She has a triangular-shaped face with an unusually pointed chin and larger ears. There's a small gaggle of freckles around her nose, which she hides with makeup.
Height Short for her age.
Physique Broad shoulders with an athletic build thanks to years of gymnastics.
Clothing Trendy designer clothing made from pricey fabrics. She mostly wears blues, grays, and other neutral colors. Her fashion style is chic and preppy.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet traveled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

December's Reply:
Potions class had been complete and total wreckage. She was thinking about a letter she'd received from her sister, Marvel, earlier that day and had stirred her potion 4 times clockwise, rather than 3. The result was utter chaos. What was supposed to be a Forgetfulness Potion had turned into moldy, egg-smelling goo in her cauldron, so bad that December gagged and wretched for nearly 3 hours after.

The disappointment in the potion teacher's face haunted her all day, and she couldn't seem to move past it. To make herself feel like less of a failure, she decided that she would sneak into the potions classroom later that day to prove that she was, indeed, able to brew the potion successfully. She would present it to the potions teacher the next day, in the hopes that they would forget her previous misstep and regard her as the magnificent specimen of a first-year student she was.

Upon fishing her supper, December snuck down to the dungeons, taking care to make sure she wasn't being followed. When she reached the potions classroom, she looked anxiously to the left and right to scan for signs of other students or staff. After deciding the coast was clear, December took one of her hairpins out of her hair and bent down to insert it into the keyhole. She'd picked a lock maybe once or twice before, but she was hardly an expert, and it was a struggle. She was so focused on her task that she took no notice to the other girl entering the dungeon.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound reverberated off the walls of the otherwise empty dungeon. December froze; She hadn't been expecting company. Heart racing, she slowly turned in the direction of the voice, trying not to attract attention. She took notice of the girl, who was still several yards away.

Without thinking, she quickly lept behind the ledge of the door, hiding just out of sight. So the girl was searching for Emma Birch? December had to suppress a giggle.

The story of Emma Birch was wrought with mystery and foreboding. It was one that was frequently used to torture first-year students of Hogwarts as a sort of rite-of-passage into the school. The story was too tragically beautiful to be true, and December had a hard time believing the older students, stubbornly willful as she was.

It didn't take long for the defiant young blonde to waltz down to the dungeons herself, in search of the elusive 'Emma Birch'. She was unable to find any evidence of the spirit, and immediately wrote it off as a cautionary tale told to naive and unsuspecting first-years.

With a grin, December decided to seize it as an opportunity to have some fun.
"Yesssss, it is I," she replied in her best imitation of a spooky, hissing sort of voice. "And who are you, insssssignificant human? How dare you dissssturb my peacccce?"
