Biography:

“Marriage?”

Bright green eyes looked aghast at the lounging figure in his room. Silence drifting throughout the room, only disturbed by the turning of a page. The look of horror turning to a scowl of frustration as he growled at his brother’s unwillingness to elaborate.

“Artivan! Explain!” He demanded. His hand  reaching for the book his brother held, and pulling at it.

His brother looked at him with a look that was bored and amused at the same time. That just made Xerxes pout even more prominent as he glared at his brother.

“As I said. Our parents have decided on your marriage contract.”

Xerxes tightened his jaw, his face turning an ashen color as he took a step back rather stunned. He did not know why this was happening. Certainly his parents had mentioned it before, but he had never thought they were serious. His mother even said it was unlikely they would use him in such a way. She coddled and fussed over him so much, he doubted she would want him to even marry any woman by the time he was ready for marriage.

“That’s just not… Why? Who? This is unreasonable! Preposterous!” He flailed his arms out dramatically as he seemed to be arguing with himself.

Xerxes was struggling to find a reason why this could be happening. It would seem more likely that his brother would be married off first rather than him, but then again it was Art. The Gerdher name was still intact, but Artivan did his best to sully the name whenever he had a chance. Wild parties, problems with authorities, and of course getting into brawls on the pitch whenever he deemed it appropriate. Not to mention other things, but even then it would be better to have his brother married. He was going to…

The thought trailed off in his brain as he turned away from his brother. Brows furrowed as he realized that yes, he most likely would get left everything once his father retired or expired. He was the more responsible of the two. He was not the perfect child that his father could have asked for, but he was definitely someone that would not squander away the family fortune and destroy the company. This could also be an attempt to control him, while they still could. It was more difficult to take away privilege from his brother considering his position in pro-quidditch, but Xerxes was still a child. He still was supported by his family and well… He really did not like the idea of attempting to find fame and fortune as a quidditch player. It seemed like too much work. It was possible it was also a punishment. He had been found in a position that did look bad, but really it was not his fault. Kinda… sorta… He blamed hormones for it really, but for once though he had not been able to ameliorate the situation.

He gave a light groan as he walked towards his bed and let his face fall flat into the bedding. The groan continuing, sounding like a rusted hinge creaking as it open and closed. His brother laughed over his groans. “I feel very bad for your betrothed.” The weight of his brother’s body coming to sit on the bed as he tossed the book at his brother’s body.

The creaking stopped as he gave a glare at his brother, “What do you mean, you feel bad for my betrothed?” Affronted he sat up, the panic of being married to someone he did not know, diminished as he realized that his brother was not empathising with his situation.

“I am the one being punished!”

“But she is marrying someone four years younger and well…” Artivan gave him a look that made Xerxes feel even more insulted. A pillow slammed into his brother’s face as he got up. Standing up straight at tall, he looked down at his brother glowering.

“She is lucky to even be in my presence.” In his opinion, most people were. Xerxes knew he was attractive. It was perhaps something him and his brother had in common, the fact that they knew how to get what they wanted by smiling was perhaps brought together as brothers, and why even though Artivan was a horrible person could of course get any company he desired.

His brother had raised a doubting brow, making Xerxes pout again.

Why were they even related? He had the temptation to leave the room and slam the door, but as he turned to do such a thing he realized that, this was his room. That was his bookshelf filled with books, it was his bed, It was his book he had been reading that Artivan lost his spot in. He gave a frustrated scream before turning back to Artivan and pointing at the door, “Out! Before I hex you!”

Again, that amused look came to his brother’s face. Standing up to ruffle his brother’s hair as he glared at him before heading towards the door. “Have fun in England, little brother.”

He just watched his brother go, glaring at him and then the words hit him.

“Wait… ENGLAND?!”

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Xerxes had seen a few strange occurrences in his short lifetime. It was easy to find something odd, especially if you paid attention. Since he had come to England he had noticed quite a few odd things, especially with the castle itself, but perhaps was most odd were the other students. A boy snuffling around in the flower garden was not common. He had not really paid much mind as he walked past the garden as another student went past the first row of flowers, but he had to stop as he heard him cursing about a rat. This was probably a situation in which questions could be asked, and some embarrassment could be removed from one party, but really Xerxes was more interested in watching what would happen.

It was just much more entertaining to watch people embarrass themselves with their own decisions than intervene. The sneeze had made him press his lips together attempting not to laugh out loud. His eyes lighting up as the other boy noticed his presence.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

He blinked at Hugh, his lip curling into a look of amusement as the boy attempted to act like this was a situation of no importance. There were two ways he could respond to this. Simply walking away with his amusement, allowing Hugh to be embarrassed for a few more moments by himself or he could prod at the situation even more.

“No, I do not think you can help me. And yes, it is not polite to stare but…” He bit his bottom lip before giving a chuckle, “I think you'd do very well as a clown. You do parties?"

House Request: Up to the Hat

Personality: Xerxes can be described in quite a few ways, but his brother would call him pretentious. He cares much more about what others think about him than what he lets on. He also is a little bit more manipulative and cynical than most fourteen-year-olds should be. He likes challenges, and loves to play games and solve puzzles. He doesn't like to be in the spotlight all the time, but he certainly will not shy away from it if it is given to him. Once he gets bored or annoyed with the attention he will dismiss it without a thought. When comfortable around people, he will seem rather over dramatic. He can be possessive, and protective of those people/things he has deemed as his. His usual response when unhappy or upset is to sulk (at first). Generally Xerxes doesn't like to put too much effort into situations in which he knows is a losing situation, but again if you outright challenge him he will take up that challenge. He is not afraid of physical altercations either, though he finds them rather tedious, so it is unlikely he will throw the first punch unless he is somehow cornered.
