Biography:
Leah Holmes was born on the 10th of March 1948 in London. She was born and raised in a small flat in Surrey. Unfortunately, due to certain health issues her mother had acquired during pregnancy, Leah was born with several health issues - a heart condition among one of them. The heart condition limits the amount of physical activity Leah can perform. While it’s difficult for her to compete in sports, it has never stopped her from participating.

Something that always troubled her was the way her parents argued constantly. After a long day at school, Leah came home to the usual bickering. It later turned into a full blown argument that tipped Leah over the edge. She came between her parents, ready to confront both of them. Before she could speak, her mother screamed, pointing down at Leah with a horrified look. In Leah’s hand was a drawing from school, now covered in flames. Leah was confused as the fire didn’t seem to be hurting her in any way.

After the incident with her parents, home life became difficult. Leah’s parents often kept some distance between them, as if they were scared she’d burn them to crisps. It seemed like they didn’t want to have anything to do with their ‘freak’ of a daughter. Her time at school provided them with a brief respite from the magic they could not understand. While home life was horrible, this new discovery only fueled Leah’s fire more. She felt like even her heart condition couldn’t stop her from pursuing whatever this meant.

The lack of parenting and new found independence didn’t stop Leah from living her life. She spent most of her free time in her room or roaming the streets near the flat in Surrey. After an afternoon of standing up to the local bully, Leah arrived home to see a strange visitor in the living room. Her parents were nowhere to be found. The stranger introduced themselves as a faculty member from Hogwarts school. What seemed like ten minutes was actually two hours of the stranger talking about Leah’s abilities and what was to come from this moment on for the young girl and her family. Leah would attend a magical school to learn new skills and improve the ones she already possessed.

At Hogwarts, Leah was excited to learn new facets of her magic and come to terms with the fact that this—which had previously branded her a ‘freak’—was in fact a gift. While her early year(s) was somewhat uneventful, Leah is very excited for what is to come in the upcoming term and the many terms to come at the school.

Personality:
Leah has always been the type of person to stand up for what she believes in. She will go above and beyond to show people she cares. At school, she isn’t afraid to stand up to playground bullies or stubborn teachers in the pursuit of what she believes to be right. In saying this, it usually doesn’t take much to tip Leah over the edge and she can appear a little quick to judge. However, there is a lighter side to Leah that involves plenty of practical jokes and a lot of laughs from those around her. She is a fierce friend and brings joy to others through her jokes and manner.

When Leah wasn’t spending time with her friends, she was lurking around the corridors, trying to soak in as much of the castle as possible. Despite previously only going down for Potions, Leah was interested in exploring the dungeons next. Hearing a group of older Gryffindor girls tell a first year to go to the dungeons only made Leah want to go even more. She could tell this new adventure was making the first year uncomfortable and wanted to make sure she’d be alright.

The dungeons were as drafty and cold as Leah expected them to be. It felt extra cold because she wasn’t inside the Potions classroom, sitting around a heated cauldron with her friends. She’d made no attempt to stay quiet, which was a big mistake. She watched as the girl attempted to speak...to a figment of her imagination, apparently. There was no Emma Birch... at least not to Leah’s knowledge. Leah stayed quiet for a few more moments, examining the young girl. When nothing happened, she cleared her throat loudly. “You know, I think those girls tricked you into coming down here. Even if you refused to come down here, you wouldn’t get kicked out of Gryffindor,” Leah said, making her way over to the young girl. “Standing up to those girls would’ve been just as brave and coming down here.”
