Biography:
Sawyer's story actually starts five generations ago on the eve of 1 January 1837. His great-great-great grandfather George Pennifold (b. 19 January 1802 - d. 27 May 1898) has borrowed money to start a business. However, business was not as good as George had hope and he end his first year with negative profits. This didn't sit well with the man who had invested the money to help George start his business, and the man paid George a visit on New Year's Eve 1836 to tell him that the money he owed the man needed to be paid by the next day or else.

George begged and pleaded with the man for more time, but the man would hear nothing of it. Even after George sold his equipment and liquidated his business, he still didn't have enough to pay off the loan. Turning over all he had, George made on final plea to the man. What he didn't expect was the offer the man made him.

"Join my business."

See, there was a reason the man had money. He smuggled and traded items in the Wizarding underground. The proceeds from these affairs also allowed him to loan money to wizards in need, but came with a hefty interest rate. The man's business had been so good however, he needed a partner and although George had failed at starting his own business, there was something about him that the man liked.

"You'll start by paying off the money you owe me, though you can keep just enough to feed your family. If you do well, after you pay off the money owed to me, I'll name you a partner and we'll split the earnings."

George tentatively agreed, and paid off the loan in two years. The man taught him well and kept his promise to name him a partner if business was good. It was better than ever and the two of them continued to excel, the business soaring to new heights.

On 4 August 1858, a deal gone wrong lead to the man's death. As it was unexpected, the man had no will but George would also find that the man had no family. His parents were also deceased and he had no siblings, wife, or children. The entire business was now his to do with as he pleased. George was now in control and he would run this business much better than he had run the first.

Even after all these years though, George had never told his wife or family what he actually did for a living. That was all about to change however as George needed a new partner. There was no way that he would be able to handle all the monetary transactions and artifact smuggling and trafficking himself, so George called on the help of his oldest son Thomas (b. 12 May 1826 - d. 10 July 1912). Decided to drop providing loans to protect their assests, the duo focused just on buying and selling unique but highly sought after Wizarding objects. Thus began the "family business" and the tradition of calling on the oldest son join the family business upon his 18th birthday).

Joining the family business next would be Sawyer's great-grandfather Walter Pennifold (b. 28 December 1850-d. 22 September 1932) and his eldest son,Sawyer's grandfather, Anthony Pennifold (b. 17 October 1878). Philip Pennifold (b. 20 May 1898), Sawyer's father, had been the latest family member to join the family business.

What Sawyer didn't know is that his father, Philip, was actually his uncle. Sawyer's actual father was Lawrence Pennifold (b. 30 January 1906; unknown whereabouts). His mother was a Muggle named Teresa Atchison whom the family had never met. Lawrence had tainted their family's Pureblood status. Afraid that word of Lawrence's relationship with a Muggle would ruin the family's reputation and also their business, Anthony and Philip paid Lawrence a hefty sum of money to "disappear" and requested that his son, Sawyer, be turned over to Philip to raise as one of his own.

Philip never had any son's of his own, and although at the time of Sawyer's birth he was still young enough to have children, his wife was unable to carry anymore due to a medical condition. They had three beautiful daughters, but no son of which to pass down the family business. The arrival of Sawyer would change all of that though and the family swore to never tell Sawyer who, or what, he really was.

While rumors surfaced about the whereabouts of Sawyer's birth father, the rumors never really affected the family business all that much. Business continued to thrive, even more so after the events of the Time Warp and the war that followed. Wizarding family's had things to purge, things to hide, and needed money for everything under the sun and where the banks failed to grant a loan, the Pennifold's were there.

The story is so much more complicated though. You see, despite disowning Lawrence for tainting the family blood with that of a Muggle, the Pennifold's were very close friends with a Muggle family - the Graham's. The Graham's owed it to the Pennifold's however as they had gotten them out of a very sticky situation involving an inquisition by the Ministry of Magic. Always the forward-thinking man he was (he often wondered if he should have been placed in Ravenclaw than Slytherin), Philip had a genius idea placing their things in the hands of a Muggle family as it was the last place that the Ministry would think to look and the Graham's had been that Muggle family.

Despite the fact that they were Muggles, Sawyer was okay with they fact that they were family friends as they had a boy about his age whereas he only had three older sisters to play with at home. Even better than having a Muggle friend who was a boy was having a Wizard friend who was a boy though, which is exactly what Sawyer found he had in Reggie Graham one hot summer's day in 1941. Sawyer, always a little braver than he should have been, stepped a bit too far into a current and was swept away. Reggie's fear - and inherited pre-adolescent Wizarding magic (the kind he couldn't help) - saved Sawyer and secured Sawyer a best friend at Hogwarts.

All thanks to the war however, the Graham's were scared to send off their son off to a Wiizarding school they knew very little about even if the Pennifold's tried to convince them that it was the absolute safest place in England. This left Sawyer to start school by himself with out his best friend. However, this year, that was all about to change.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: I'll leave it up to the sort!

Personality: It's surprising that Sawyer doesn't suspect that he is not his father's son as he doesn't appear embody any of his father's or mother's personality traits. Where his father is street-smart, Sawyer is more book smart. He can read and retain, but he doesn't think very well on his feet or on the fly.

Thanks to his relationship with Reggie, Sawyer is also much more tolerable of Muggles and Muggleborns than the rest of his family and he's not afraid who knows it. He's not all about putting on a Pureblood front and he doesn't understand why his family puts such an emphasis on their Pureblood status and ensuring that he marries another Pureblood girl after Hogwarts.

It is also very unlikely that Sawyer knows exactly what his family's "business" entails. If he did, at his age, it would be unlikely that he would even want to join as at this age he doesn't have ambitions of grossly breaking the law. Sawyer does like a bit of adventure though, so it is possible the he would consider helping with the family business, just never wanting to run it one day. Seeing as he is currently the only boy in his generation, the future of the family business with rely upon him. Will his family eventually convince him of all the perks and benefits their lifestyle affords?

Appearance: Again, his appearance should be a dead give away that he is not his father's son, but he bears enough family resemblance that he's never give it much question and he's always been told that he was just dealt "a lot of recessive genes".

Sawyer is on the scrawny side for his age and because of this isn't largely athletic. His hair is on the longer side as well, and Sawyer likes this as it hides his face and makes it harder to tell what he's thinking.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

This was been sure a stupid dare, but Sawyer wanted to prove that he wasn't as chicken as everyone thought he was.

"Go find Emma Birch in the dungeons."

He had heard of Emma Birch, and he knew what had happened to her. Rumors were that her ghost haunted the dungeons, but he didn't believe that. How was he supposed to complete the dare of finding her though if there was no "her" to find?

So here he was, slumped against the cool castle wall attempting to figure out how he could prove to those jerks that he had looked for her but hadn't found her.

He had noticed that he'd been tapping his foot until he thought he had heard something and his hands scrambled to push down on his foot to make it stop. Apparently whatever he had heard, heard him too.

"H-h-hello?"

Surely this was not the voice of Emma Birch. If it was, he was sure that it would sound must more confident.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

Sawyer let her voice ring through the corridor while he contemplated what to do. Perhaps he should just call back and let him know that it was Emma she had heard but him. Maybe he should mess with her like the other's who reside in this area of the castle might. Perhaps this was even a set up by the very boys who sent him here for him to prove they he could be just as much of a jerk as they were for sending him here.

Figuring he should say something, anything before she left, Sawyer called out to her, "Depends. Who are you?" He likely didn't sounds like Emma Birch, but perhaps the girl might think that he was he guard or something.

do you remember the twenty-first night of september?
love was changing the minds of pretenders while chasing the clouds away
our hearts were ringing in the key that our souls were singing
as we danced in the night, remember how the stars stole the night away
