Biography:
Born in the winter of 1931 as the only child to William and Ivory Blackwood, Katherine was expected to be a prim and proper young lady from the moment of her first giggle. She never stepped a toe out of place, making her parents and family look exceptional in the eyes of their peers. In return Katherine was given anything she could possibly want as her parents, like most old pureblood families, had more money than they knew what to do with. Her father William was born the only heir to the prestigious Scottish-American Blackwood family. They were well known around the eastern coast as being one of the first wizarding families to move to the ‘new world’ to escape the prejudice they received from the European families for their non-traditional beliefs on muggle-borns; being one of the only ‘pure families’ to judge based on character and ability rather than blood heritage. Now that is not to say that they believed that intermarriage should be allowed, which Katherine thought was very hypocritical. Her mother was Ivory Blackwood who was born to the English Aristocratic Grey family whose beliefs on muggles and muggle-borns were of the traditional sense and was a common topic of arguments between the two families. Katherine spent her first school years training at the Salem Witches’ Institute following in her paternal grandmother’s footsteps; but as the years went on her mother could not hold her tongue any longer. Ivory graduated near the top of her class at Hogwarts and it had been a tradition in her family to do so. Katherine, while she loved the friends she had made in the Salem Institute, had often read about Hogwarts and its outstanding students. How they went on to conquer new things after they left school; the careers they had in store for them. The institute while still teaching magic focused more on what a good family witch should do with her magic. Katherine was done being the good family witch. So after using everything it took to convince her father, Katherine transferred to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She hoped that the school would be everything her mother had told her and more; otherwise she had given up her friends and everything she had ever known for nothing.

House Request:
Slytherin

Personality:
Katherine is very sweet and polite to most everyone she meets. While she can still be mean and rude when required to do so. She grew up in her parents shadow but somehow managed to blossom into her own independent person. She dislikes sunny days and would rather sit under the clouds waiting for the rain. Now she will deal with a sunny day if it includes watching her favorite sport: Quidditch. Even though she could not play, on account that she was a major klutz, she loved to watch others play. She is a good student and loves to learn. The only thing she loves more than a good book would be her friends and family. Yes, her family is full of lunatics but whose isn’t. She would protect them with her life and isn’t afraid to get dirty to do so. The same can be said of her friends; once you become her friend, she will not turn her back on you unless you have committed an unspeakable act upon her. She hates those without morals and those who betray her. When you are on her bad side it is hard to get off of it much less get back into her good graces. When she wants something she normally gets it by doing whatever it takes.

Appearance:
Dark brown hair paired with a very light skin tone which she inherited from her mother. Everyone always says she looks more like the Greys than the Blackwoods with their Olive colored skin and golden-brown hair. This always made her feel closer to her mother’s side of the family and is part of the reason they were able to convince her to switch schools. Everyone at Salem had always talked behind her back, wondering if she was really a Blackwood. Some of the jealous ones going as far as saying she was the product of an affair her mother had at the beginning of the arranged marriage. Needless to say anyone who knew her parents could see that that was untrue because of how in love with each other they were and the girls who did start it ended up with green hair that no one could figure out how to get rid of

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Katherine had been lounging around in the darkness of the dungeons she had come to love so much when she heard a a trembling voice call out for…Emma Birch. The older girl rolled her eyes and called out.

“Must you Griffindors be so brave about everything? Couldn’t you just turn down a dare once in a while?” She asked laughing and the young girl she came face to face with as she slipped out of her favorite hiding spot she used when she needed to get away. Or at least it would be her favorite spot if she wouldn’t get interrupted every five minutes by little lions trying to prove their worth.

“There is no such ghost or girl her by the name of Emma Birch. From what I have gathered the older courageous Lions use that story to scare the rest of you cubs into listening to them. After all who would turn down a chance to prove their bravery?” Katherine said with a laugh.

‘Bravery’ she thought to herself. What a lovely thought. As if walking head first into a situation unprepared is bravery. She just found it very stupid. Why on Earth would someone as smart as this young girl be foolish enough to enter a place crawling with people she knew disliked her. Oh yes, that’s right. Bravery. Not for the first time Katherine thanked her lucky stars she was not sorted into that house.
